Shoulder Pain 9 months post sleeve
Riva_G. replied to WestSwan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Shoulder pain you are describing sounds similar to what I have if I eat to fast. I’m also 9 months out. My surgeon said it was gas pain combined with reflux from eating to fast. Whenever this happens I take some gas-x and use a hot water bottle to relieve the pain. Hope this helps. -
Is it ok to do intermittent fasting with the DS/ sips? My point of wanting to do this is not for weight loss. I just want to take control of my eating habits. Is it safe for malabsorption?

Hey! I’m new here. Stats first. Starting weight :270 height: 5” 4” Surgery date: July 18 2019. Current weight: 177. Goal weight: 145 I know that by now I should be getting the hang of this eating situation, now that I’m 9 months post op. I just can’t seem to get control over my eating. To make matters complicated, no matter what in the world I’ve been eating, I’ve been losing weight nicely and have no complications whatsoever. I really have no motivation to eat ‘healthy’. The reason I did this surgery was to become HEALTHY, not to lose weight while stuffing my face with whatever I want.. I’m confused. To what extent to I need to “diet” if I’m mal-absorbent? My bloods are fine. I’m on top of my vitamins. I work out every day. Should I be concerned about my eating? Do I have to watch strictly or eat only healthy? Because at this point it doesn’t seem to be making a difference. Sure, if I eat oily foods I have bathroom issues. But weight wise my eating seems to do nothing.

Pre-Surgery Advice: What do you wish you knew?
Riva_G. replied to Rachel98's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wish I knew..... the outcome! I literally am SO happy with my surgery and reasults. I was insanely depressed from being obese all my life. Prior to surgery my anxiety was sky high! What wud I feel like? What wud ppl say? How wud my friends react? How wud I react? And most of all, will I be happy? I had watched so many vid about Bariatric horror stories, or even those ppl being like ‘losing weight wont help you not be depressed it’s all in your head’. Well true, losing weight itself won’t make me happy. But the satisfaction of hard work does. The feeling that you are doing something right in your life for a change does. I’m not gonna lie, I have a ton of loose skin, with 30lbs to go to my goal weight. About 100 down. But it’s not so bad. And I will DEFINITELY be getting plastics done. I consider it part of my journey. Bariatric surgery starting it and PS ending it. (Then I plan to start a new journey.... hopefully consider getting married and stuff) so ya loose skin is bothersome but it’s not a ‘big issue’ and it’s not like overnight you wake up and your body is hanging all over. It happens gradually and suddenly you realize it’s been there without you seeing it... Good luck! -
Do ALL DS'rs have problem with smelly poop?
Riva_G. replied to SAMMY1970's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I’m not exactly sure if it makes a difference, but I had loop ds/ Sadi/ sips. I’m 9 months out and I almost never have that problem. Maybe once a month. Not even. And every time I had that, it was because I ate something ‘bad’ for us ds’ers... and ya I do fart a lot, and being a senior in HS, sitting in a classroom for 7/8 hrs a day.... it’s hell I tell u... but all in all, I’m doing amazing. Feeling physically so much better than I ever have, since I’ve been obese all my live. I’ve got 3 lbs to go to no longer be considered ‘obese’ something I haven’t experienced since I’m 5. The surgery is the best thing I’ve ever done. -
I wake up at 7:30. Vitamins and two eggs scrambled. At 11:15 (recess at my senior year in High School) I’d eat some chips. Then at lunch I either have a slice of bread with whatever spread my school offers.... or nothing. At 3:45 again, some chips. I get home about 5:15. I’ll eat a meal one small slice of cheese pizza. salad. Some fries. And I do a lot of snaking throughout the rest of the day. Chips. candy. I’ll get in some Protein. A shake or something.... it’s not that I eat a lot. I physically can’t. It’s just the food choices. As I was typing this I actually realized I’m sticking to old habits that got me where I was in the first place. Namely, not eating much until I get home from school and then once I get home eat all I want

That’s really interesting. I realized that my skin was so much dryer lately. I didn’t realize it could be because of surgery. Just another thing to add to the list of ‘weird things that have been happening to me because of surgery’ 😂
