Why cant i have sex?!?!
ja4332 replied to ImWithTheBand22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had sex 10 days after the band. I read a thread a while ago about the same thing. One of the guys mentioned that he had sex the day after his band. -
Fill question for my fellow Realize Banders
ja4332 replied to ricky t's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 3 fills for me to feel any restriction at all. I am up to 8.5 cc's in an 11 cc band. I was very frustrating at first, I was getting so discouraged until that 3rd fill. Hang in there! -
This is the saddest post I have read in a while. You absolutely need to separate yourself from the negative influences in your life! I know that this if your family, and they probably think that they are expressing "tough love", but in actuality they are destroying your spirit. You need all of the energy that you have within you to focus on YOU. These people have hurt you so deeply, don't you see that they have already ruined your day/dinner before it is even here. DON'T GO!

how long
ja4332 replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same thing my first fill. I had my second fill last Wednesday and I only felt a little restriction. THEN THIS MORNING, I FINALLY FELT TRUE RESTRITION.....YIKES! I was rushing to get out the door this morning and I heated up a piece of meatloaf from last night's dinner. I woofed down my last 2 bites and left the house. No sooner did I get in my car and the pain started. My chest was SOO tight! Meanwhile, I still had food in my mouth, but I knew I would surely kill myself if I swallowed it. So, here I am, driving about 3 miles or so, sitting as far forward as I can cause of the tightness in my chest and chipmunk cheeks full of meatloaf, then my mouth starts watering (I think that is what they call sliming???), but i don't have room in my mouth for more stuff. So, I take a short cut through a quiet neighborhood. I had to pull over and spit the food out of my mouth. I sat there for a few seconds then the PB's (producing burps) started. HOLY HELL! I had to pull over 3 different times. Sorry for the graphics ) Needless to say, I cut up my chicken for lunch in teeny tiny baby bites.....I was okay. I know this is going to sound crazy, but I actually think I need to be filled one more time. This morning's incident was due to me inhaling my food. Good luck and know that you are not alone. Jane -
I completely understand what you are going through. I feel like a failure. I haven't lost any weight since my surgery July 14th. I CAN'T WAIT to get this party started and start losing. My first fill was 4 cc's.....felt nothing at all. My 2nd fill was last Wednesday and I got another 3 cc's. And I only feel a little restriction. Good luck & remember you are not alone. Please keep us updated how you are doing. Jane

I flew to Mexico for my surgery. Total cost $7800 including airfair, transportation, surgery, and 1 year of fills. Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey. I was nervous at first about going to Mexico, but the hospital was exactly like the hospitals here in the US, and everyone was super nice.

Gaining weight and hugely hungry
ja4332 replied to Cassandra_B's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cassandra, I am in the same situation. I was banded July 14th and have had my 1st fill 2 weeks ago (4cc's) and I don't feel any restriction at all. I lost 13 lbs right after surgery and I have gain most of it back.....very frustrating. Also, I seem to have a bigger appetite than before. I have been told by many people that they did not feel restricted until their 2nd fill. I can't get my 2nd fill until mid Sept. Please keep my informed on how you do with your 2nd fill. Don't get discouraged, this is a work in progress. Jane -
How long did it take you to recover?
ja4332 replied to mgilmore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work a desk job, so I only took 1 week off work. I was okay, but I really could have an extra 2 days off. -
Don't worry, sleeping will get better within a few weeks. I am also a side sleeper and I had the same concerns right after surgery. It took about 2 weeks for me to be able to sleep on my left side, which is the side that I prefer. I am 4 weeks post op and I sleep like a rock now. Congrats on your surgery!!

YOU GO GIRL!!!! Happy Bandiversary. Do you have before and after pics that you can share? I don't know about everyone else, but when I see the before/after's I get get so motivated. I have a few questions for you.....Have you reached your final goal? If so, what happens then to ensure that you don't lose too much weight? Also, how many fills have had? How many fills did it take for you to feel any restriction? I am only 1 month out and I am able to eat anything, no restriction at all. Thanks for sharing!!!!

I am in the same boat at you. I am about 4 weeks post op and my appetite is back in full force. I get my 1st fill next week and I can't wait. How do you feel since the fill? I'm assuming you are on liquids for a few days, right?

Help after surgery....
ja4332 replied to slimteacherin08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The most difficult thing for me day 2 was getting out of bed (the sitting up part). I could really feel my port for the 1st few days. But, I also had a hernia repaired at the same time, so that may have been why it was so difficult for me. Other than that, I felt great. -
Has anyone heard of the bariatric group?
ja4332 replied to Erika1982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded by Dr. Rodriguez (of the Bariatric Group) in Monterrey, Mexico last Monday 7/14. He was wonderful, and spoke perfect English. When he started surgery he found a "huge hiatal hernia" and repaired it for me....no extra charge. I can give you the name & email address of an American coordinator. If you are interested, send me a private message. Mine cost a little more though, $7900.00. I flew from Maryland to Texas on Monday, drove to Mexico, had surgery Monday afternoon, and flew back to Maryland on Thursday. I have had very little gas pains. I still have trouble getting up out of bed and bending over to tie my shoes, but other than that, I feel great! I highly recommend Dr. R. -
Alcohol (Wine) Post Op???
ja4332 replied to ImaGoofball's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 6 days post-op, so I am scared to try any alcohol right now. But, my mother-in-law has been banded for about a year and a half and she drinks beer, wine, frozen drinks, and doesn't have any problems. -
Kicked in Lap band port area
ja4332 replied to dg2tex69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 days post-op and that is one of my biggest fears. I have a large dog (Boxer) who is a jumper and I am constantly protecting my stomach area when she is around me. Please let us know what your doctor says. -
WOW!! What an amazing transformation. You look like a totally different person. Congratulations. After 2 years, do you still know that you have the band? How many fills have you had? HAPPY BANDIVERSARY!!!!

I too am self pay in Mexico next Monday, July 14th. I only have about 50 lbs. to lose. Might seem silly that I am going through this for only 50 lbs., but I have struggled with being "plump" my entire life and I NEED this tool to help me feel comfortable in my own skin. Also, I went through iVitro fertilization about 2 years ago (it failed), but since then, I have really ballooned up and the weight will not budge. I personally know 3 people that have had the surgery, my mother-in-law, my aunt, and a friend. All 3 of them have had it done in Mexico and none of them have had any problems other than severe gas right after surgery which subsided within a week or so. My mother-in-law came to visit me about 6 weeks ago, and I could not believe how great she looked. AND how much her personality had changed, I have never seen her so happy and so full of energy. When she told my hubby and I that she was getting this done, we she was crazy because she only had about 40 lbs. to lose. But WOW what a difference this had made for her life! That's when I decided I want to do this to. I want to smile on the inside. Follow your heart, but don't be afraid of the unknown!! Yes, there are some people on this site that are struggling, but there are far more success stories and people who say "I wish I would have done this sooner". Good luck to you and let us know what you decide.

We have a very similar situation, except that you have a husband that is very encouraging.....you are lucky. I too am on the lower end of the BMI scale. I am 5'3" and weigh about 165-170. So, I am not obese in the eyes of my insurance co. but I am obese when I look in the mirror. I am self pay in Mexico (next Monday 7/14) and I have been terribly concerned about possible complications.....and how I will pay for that. I have also drained my bank account and maxed out a credit card to get this done. But if I wait til I hit the lottery or get a big bonus check, I'll never get it done. My husband was totally against it at first and quite angry with me, mostly because of the cost of the procedure, but he has finally started to accept it. So, here is how I have been handling my fears. First, and most important, I pray! Try to remember that complications are possible, but NOT probable, this surgery is minimally invasive. Most people can go back to work on day 3 or 4. I have been overweight (or plump) my entire life and I NEED this tool to help me get to a comfortable weight. And I have 3 people in my life (my mother in law, my aunt, and a friend) who have gone through this surgery and say it is the best thing they have ever done for themselves. I just saw my mother-in-law a few weeks ago and not only does she look incredible, but her personality has changed too. I have never seen her happier and full of energy. In my heart, I know that this is the right thing for me to do. Follow your heart! Focus on the new you. But if you need someone that is in the same boat as you to chat with, I'm here for you :biggrin2: Good luck, Jane

That is incredible!! I'm so happy for you!! I love hearing success stories like yours ;o) I am scheduled to be banded next Monday and I'm very excited. Can you tell me about your post-op experience? How long did you have swelling for, gas, etc? Basically, how long was it before you felt normal again. Thank you, Jane

Mentally, does food become for nourishment and NOT for pleasure?
ja4332 replied to kaytiebugs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am been thinking about this also. I am very worried that my husband and I will lose our "connection". We go out for "date night" once or twice a week and it always center's around food at our local sports bar or neighborhood resturant. I don't want to grow apart because of this. Is anyone else have the same fear? -
