I was also banded in February and have only lost 32 lbs. I'm a slower loser of my weight, but it has been good for me. I don't want to lose too much too quickly. I was at the same weight for about 3 weeks, then decided to get a fill and I've already started losing weight again. I have like 7.6 mL in my 10 mL band. Good luck!

I was at the same weight for about 3 weeks, but then decided to get a fill & I'm doing much better. I was hesitant on getting a fill because some days I could eat whatever I wanted, but then other days I felt restricted and couldn't eat much. I decided that I wanted to lose more weight, so I decided to get a fill. So far so good. To try other things to lose weight, make sure you get enough protein in, wait 30 minutes before and 1 hour after to drink around meals, and try new exercises to get more motivated to work out. Good luck!

Congrats & good luck to all of you!

Dr. Michael Phelps - Banded by Dr. Phelps...
AshleyRN posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was banded by Dr. Phelps on February 5th, 2009. The surgery was great, hardly any pain and a quick recovery. The fills have been great so far as well. I've been filled twice and I've lost 30 pounds since surgery. Very happy with how things are going so far! -

Having Problems with Chicken help!!
AshleyRN replied to trishb13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They say fish is a really good protein to eat. I, however, am really picky and don't like fish. I don't have any problems with chicken, steak, or beef but I do occasionally have trouble with breads or foods with lots of bread on it (thick crust pizza, sandwiches with thick bread, etc.) It's just a trial and error process. You could try a different kind of chicken with maybe some sauce so it isn't so dry and be sure you chew the food extremely well! Good luck! -
Are There ANY Eastern Iowa Bandsters?
AshleyRN replied to NINNYED's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Jackie! They say to eat protein first because they want you to get the required protein in, and if you're eating other food first, then get full, you won't get all of your protein in. My doctor requires 60-70 grams of protein a day, as well as 64 oz. of fluids. Where did you get banded and when? Hope this helps! -
How long were you out of work for Post op?
AshleyRN replied to angel1174's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also a nurse and had the surgery at the beginning of February. I took 3 weeks off work, just because I didn't want to have any problems or have the band slip because of doing too much too soon. I felt good after about a week & a half, so 2 weeks would have been okay I think. Everyone is different though. Good luck! -
I'm so excited and nervous for my first fill on Wednesday. I have heard that it can be really painful for the fills, but I'm excited to finally start losing some weight. I've only lost about 10 lbs. since my surgery, which is still good, but I lost that around the first to second week after surgery. Pretty much on a plateau now. I'm currently 5 weeks out from surgery. How are fills for everyone else?! Any words of advise?

I have used the Isopure protein drinks. I like the orange, blue, & purple the best. However, right after surgery, my taste buds were different and they were awful to choke down. After a week or two, they started tasting normal again. So whatever you like for protein drinks, beware that it may not taste the same right after surgery as it did before surgery. Good luck!!

Hey! Yeah, I'm finally banded. I had my surgery two weeks ago today. I'm doing okay. Monday was the first time I felt 100% better. How are you doing?

Hey! Just wondering if anyone has Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance through Iowa? If so, what tests, etc. did you have to go through to get approved? :confused2: Thanks so much! Ashley

Any February 2009 Bansters?
AshleyRN replied to exumtam's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey everyone! I was banded yesterday, February 5th. I am feeling okay. Been taking my pain medication about every 6-7 hours. I can feel when I've had too much to drink or drank it too fast. I also sometimes have pain at my port site. I feel like I'm doing pretty good. I'm not hungry at all. I'm having trouble getting my fluids and protein in. I had 4 oz. chicken broth for breakfast and then I started drinking my Isopure to get my protein in. Well I've taken a couple naps today, so I am only finishing up my 20 oz. of Isopure now. That's only 40 grams of protein and 24 oz. of fluids. :cursing: I hope tomorow will be a better day where I can get more fluids and protein in. I know it's important to get protein in for healing and so I don't lose any hair, but I get so full so quickly. It hurts to drink too much or too fast, so I'm trying to slowly get it all in. Otherwise I feel pretty good. I've never had surgery before this one. I hope everything goes great! I'm so excited to be banded and start losing weight. -
I'm having surgery next Thursday, February 5th. :scared: I'm SOOO excited! Just wanted to share my exciting news!! Can't wait to be banded and start showing everyone the "real" me!
-
My doctor puts us on a high protein, low carb diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. This is supposed to shrink the liver, which I was told that an enlarged liver can sometimes interfere with the surgery. I'm doing pretty well. I'm excited for the surgery, but nervous as well, as I've never had surgery or stayed overnight in the hospital. It's a new experience that I'm going to take for the new me!

My surgery date is February 5th! It sounds like there's quite a few people on that date! I'm so excited, but also very nervous, as I've never had surgery before. Good luck to everyone!!! :w00t: -
I'm getting banded on Thursday, February 5th.... only 3 more weeks until the beginning of a new me!! I'm so excited!!!!! It's been a long journey, but it will be worth it in the end. Anyone else getting banded around the 5th? What are you bringing to the hospital with you? What stuff did you buy for after surgery?

Gettin' Banded Soon....
AshleyRN replied to DannysGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey! I'm also getting banded on the 5th of February. I'm so excited!!! Congrats to you and good luck!!! -
I just found out today that I am denied by my insurance company. They sent out the letter yesterday and the lady I talked to on the phone couldn't give me much information. I'm so sad and disappointed right now. Not only have I failed in being healthy, but I can't get any help from insurance to help me get there. I have Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Iowa. We'll do an appeal, but the lady that does all that is out of the office until Friday. I had all my time taken off work, and now I have to try to fill in spots at work & hope that I can still get some time off when/if I get approved later on. I've just lost all hope today and really needed to vent. I need this surgery really bad.
-
I just got my approval letter in the mail!!! :tongue2: After being denied in October, I lost all my hope for awhile. I gave up and starting binging again. After a week of doing this, I realized how much I need this surgery and that I'm not going to give up. I finally got all my information together and sent in my appeal at the end of November. I've been anxiously waiting for the letter and have been checking in with Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield to see if there's any updates. Well I finally got my letter today!!! I should be able to have my surgery in February or March!!! I'm SOOO excited! I can't wait for 2009!! :huh2:
