I'm having troubles finding foods to eat for my 2 week high protein, low carb diet. I don't have trouble for breakfast, just mostly for lunch & supper. I'm a very picky eater, live alone, and work 12 hour nights. Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks so much!

I just found out today that I am denied by my insurance company as well. It sucks so bad! This was my last resort. Like you, and I'm sure almost everyone on here, I've done almost every diet under the sun and don't get anywhere. I plateau, which is what I'm doing now. I don't know the reasoning for my denial yet, but I'm definitely going to find! We deserve this and I think you need to fight back as well! Good luck and try to keep your head up!

Any October Bandsters!??!?!
AshleyRN replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went for my psych eval today and I asked them if I could pencil in the date I wanted, since they're already scheduling for the time I want. I will hear back by the end of the week if my psych eval is okay and then the next step is to meet with the surgeon & send stuff in for insurance approval! :crying: I'm so excited! So my "penciled in date" is Wednesday, October 15th!! I can't wait!! I hope the insurance approval doesn't take too long. I think waiting is so frustrating! I'm a pretty impatient person when I'm waiting for something I want though. Hope to write again soon to have a set date for surgery!! :wink2:  -
Any October Bandsters!??!?!
AshleyRN replied to SoCalCass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the process of getting approved, but I'm hoping to get banded on October 13th or 15th. I'm going to my psych eval on Monday, and if that's all good, then I visit with my surgeon and we send stuff in for insurance approval. It should take up to 14 days to hear back from insurance (I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield). So I hope to get everything going & get approved so I can have a set date! It seems far away now, but it will be here before we know it!! -
I was just wondering if there was anyone out there that had been banded and doesn't like many fruits or vegetables? The only vegetables I like are the starchy ones (peas, corn, & potatoes) and not many fruits. What are you eating after your protein? I know they say to eat your protein first, then vegetables, but what if you don't really like any good fruits or vegetables? Thanks!

Any hospital RN's out there who have been banded?
AshleyRN replied to Snowgator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been banded yet, but I'm a nurse on an Intermediate Pulmonary Care Unit and we have some heavy patients. We do a lot of lifting and turning ourselves. I'm planning on taking off 3 weeks, but everyone is different. I have to be able to lift 40 lbs before I can return to work. Not sure if this helps at all, but that's my plan. -
I have not been banded yet, but when I went in to visit with the nurse, she said that the doctors doing my surgery suggests doing liquids for 48 hours after a fill to let the band & stomach pouch rest and heal after the fill. Every doctor is going to be different. You will know what you can handle & what you can't after a fill.

I finally feel like things are moving in the right direction. I finally went to the seminar on July 7th and made my appointments today to meet with the nurse, the dietician, and the psychiatrist! :biggrin2: I'm so excited!! I can't wait to get the process moving more, get banded, & show off the new me!!!

I agree that the nurse was in the wrong here. After the 2nd stick, she should have gotten someone else to try. Personally as a nurse, it's the rule of thumb and respect to try twice & then get someone else. It would have also been a good idea to try some topical numbing agent before trying to access the port. There are many things that you do not want your doctor doing, you want the nurse. These don't necessarily relate to the lapband, but in the hospital setting. If the nurse is having trouble with something (getting IV access, putting in a feeding tube, etc.), you don't want the doctor, just a different nurse. The doctors don't do these procedures all the time like we do. Just an FYI. -
Don't give up! You can do it! All you need a little more restriction probably. Once you find the right fill, you'll be glad you didn't give up!

Congrats on your achievement! I've also been skydiving and it's an awesome opportunity. I don't believe they weighed me before the jump, but I know another person I went, they didn't have a jump suit to fit her. I got mine on video, cuz I didn't know if I'd ever do it again (I'm scared of heights). It's awesome though! As far as a reply to another post, I've also been parasailing... Quite an experience also! :biggrin2:

I'm keeping it quiet, but I'm a terrible liar!

I haven't had surgery yet, but am also in your shoes where I don't want to tell everyone. Not because I'm ashamed of it, but because I think people will think I'm trying to take the easy way out and they don't know what the whole process is and too ignorant to look into it. I also will be taking time off work and am just going to tell them I had to have surgery and leave it at that. If they start asking questions, just say that you don't want to talk about it right now. I'm sure this isn't the best answer or the answer you were looking for, but most people will respect your privacy. If and when you decide to tell them, you can. But there's not really an easy way out of it. I work at a hospital and I have to take about 3 weeks off due to the heavy lifting that I do at work. It's difficult to decide what to do. -
Just wondering if anyone has been banded in the Quad Cities? I'm planning on getting it done there, but haven't checked into any doctors yet. Any suggestions for surgeons?

What requirements did you have to have? Did you have all your tests (blood work, EKG, stress test, psych consult) after your approval? How long did it take to get approved? I've had a meeting with my doctor, but go to the seminar on July 14th. She said she'd have my letter ready after my seminar. -
Thanks for your response! Have either of you had any problems with the band? What side is your port on? What kind of diet restrictions do they have planned for you? When do you get to go back to work? What kind of work do you do? Sorry for all the questions! :cursing:

Thanks for the response! Do you know anyone else who was banded in the QC? If so, what surgeons did they use? I'd like as much input as possible! Thanks again and congrats! :biggrin2:

Today was my first day back at work. and...

I work as a nurse at a hospital also. I actually work on an intermediate pulmonary care unit, so I know exactly what you're talking about moving heavier patients. So you said you took 3 weeks off work. Did that seem like a good amount of time? I was planning on taking 3 weeks, but didn't know if that would be enough, or too much, or what. I mean I can always pick up extra shifts if I'm feeling better sooner. It's great to get input from someone who has had the surgery & is in the same boat as me in the work field. -

Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance?
AshleyRN replied to AshleyRN's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think I've really been told by my doctor to diet & exercise. She's never really given me a diet plan or anything like that. Does that mean I have to wait 3 years to get the surgery?? -
Hello. I've looked into the surgery about a year ago, did some research & got a little worried about the side effects and decided not to do it. I've again thought about doing it and did some more research. I was hoping to get some detailed input from recent and long-term banders. Any complications? Concerns? Frustrations? Suggestions? I'm hoping to maybe get the surgery done in October. How long before that do I need to meet with the doctor and start working with my insurance? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and congrats to all you banders that are doing great! :tongue2:
