  1. Hello everyone, I've been lurking around here for months. I started on my lap band journey in November, which is my birthday month. I had to do a 6 month doctor supervised diet and of course I had to see a ton of doctors. My paperwork was finally submitted 2 weeks ago and I found out I was approved the same week. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. You guys have been such an inspiration. I hope that I lose a good amount of weight before my 30th bithday this year. That would be a fabulous way to kick off my thirties.

What has weight kept you from doing?

Well for starters my weight has prevented me from having a social life. I'm too self conscious about going out. I don't travel either because I'm afraid that I will need seat extensions, I HATE taking photos so I miss out on those moments..gee, I could go on and on. I'm turning 30 in November and have never been in love. Needless to say I have missed out on much. That's all going to change though. I'm determined to get my life back. 26lbs down from June 16th and I'm going to keep up the pace.
  3. Hello all! My name is Nicole, 29 yrs old from Queens NY, I'm excited about this forum. Its nice to have people that you can relate to and ask specific questions to. I was banded on June 16, 2008 and have officially lost 20.5lbs according to the scale at my doctors office. My scale at home, which is suspect says I lost an additional 6lbs. My question to all you losers (weight loss that is) is how has your diet been? Are you low carbing or counting calories? How about exercise? How soon did you start exercising and what have you done? I'm waiting for the go ahead to start working out, right now I can only walk on the treadmill. I have really big arms and I was wondering what type of workouts everyone did. I long to go sleeveless and I can't wait to see a collar bone..LOL I want a normal life and a healthy social life. I'm turning the bif 3-0 in November and want to celebrate with a big bang.

Women of Color and WLS-New Social Group

:tt1: OMG I'm so glad I found this board. I've been so anxious about loose skin and losing my hair. I'm a 29 yr old african americanand I was banded on 6/16/08. I've lost 26lbs since the surgery, but I don't quite feel or see a difference yet :tt1: I long to wear a sleeveless top and some pumps...LOL!! Ziahmama how did you lose 75lbs so quickly? What did you do for exercise. I pray that my arms look normal after the weight comes off and I hope that I don't have the loose skin. I'm so excited about this board..

    New York

Hi there!! I'm from Queens and I also have Aetna PPO. I had to do the 6 month doctor supervised diet. Once I did that and saw all of the specialists I got approved within 3 days!! I get banded on Monday. Good luck to you. :rolleyes2:

I got approved! Surgery date is 06/13

Hi Regan, I started my journey in Novemnber of 07'. I too was given a list of doctors that I needed to see prior to them submitting my paperwork. I have Aetna and my doctor told me I would need the 6 month doctor supervised diet. I completed everything in May and my paperwork was submitted on a Thursday and the following Wednesday, I was told by my insurance company that I was approved. I think it differs for everyone. I think I was approved because I also have servere sleep apnea and my BMI is around 54. Don't worry about the insurance, your doctor will tell you exactly what you need to do.

You too!! I swear if i hear one more person say you have such a pretty face, I'm going to gouge their eyes out..LOL!! That's great that you have a support team. I haven't told anyone in my family except for my mom and sister. I'm not really sure why I haven't told them. I doubt they would be supportive anyway, they would probably try to talk me out of it. I have an old friend who I have not seen in years and I'm planning on going down to GA to see him for Christmas. It would be wonderful for him to see me looking smoking hot. I have to mentally prepare myself for not eating whatever I want. I will mourn the loss of eating chocolate everyday. LOL!! Yeah I'm going to put my ticker up too. I may even put up a before and after pic, I have to search for a decent pic though. I hate taking pictures. I'm looking forward to that as well...taking pictures and going on trips and just feeling comfortable. Those little things people take for granted is what I can't wait to get to. I actaully have a treadmill (its a clothes rack right now) maybe I will dust it off. I also have a gym membership. Oh boy I can't wait!! You guys are great. I love this board

YAY!! You're having the surgery this month too. I'm mor excited than nervous, but I'm sure I'll be nervous when the surgery date gets closer. I can't believe that this is happening. I was so afraid that my Insurance would deny me. Imagine this time next year all of us would be healthy and hot!! I feel like I've been trapped in this body for so long. I have all of my friends on standby just in case I get a little ahead of myself. They can bring me back down to earth. I'm a little nervous about the new me. I've never been a normal size, all I know is being heavy. I always felt like the best friend material and never the love interest. I hope the surgery and subsequent weight loss will bring out the confidence in me that I've lacked for so long. We can all be each others support system. Good luck to all the June patients.

Hi Jeff!! I should be asking you that question. How do you feel? Are you nervous? Right now I'm just trying to use this board as motivation. I'm always looking at the before and after pics. I have my pre-op lab work this thursday. I'm supposed to be there for 4 hours Oh well, I take it all in stride. BTW, my name is Nicole

Hi Froggi, The 6 months will zoom by. I couldn't believe how quickly my 6 months came and went. It was such a relief to finally be finished with all the doctors. Just gather up as much information as you need and ask a ton of questions..LOL!! This forum was a tremendous help while I went through the 6 months. Its so hard for people to relate when they're not going through what you've been through and I come on here and I read stories and its touching because its the same things that I've been through. Good luck on your journey. You're going to blink and the 6 months will be here!!
