  1. Happy 45th Birthday restored4ever!

  2. It may be expensive to buy food from the site, but I found the message board contains very useful information. Also, I have found some of their food and vitamins to be lower cost than at GNC or my doctor's office. The sales are very good. Not sure what you mean about their morals.
  3. I'm facing the same decision. My doctor told me both would work fine for me and he'd do either. My nutritionist said you have to know yourself and your eating habits. You can lose weight with both. Both will restrict the amount you can eat, but the bypass will ensure you cannot eat certain foods, such as sugar and fat. You can continue to eat those things with the lap band, so your will power will need to be strong. Both require a forever lifestyle change or you will regain your weight. Those that had gastric bypass and regain do so because they went back to their old eating habits; they mistakenly believe they don't have to do anything once the weight comes off. Proper diet, low carbs, high Protein, and exercise are important to maintaining your weight loss... with both surgeries. I have found a lot of useful information from bypass folks at www.bariatriceating.com. Check out the sight for yourself. I think it will be helpful to go other opinions.
  4. You might get an answer to your question on at this message board: www.bariatriceating.com. This site has a lot of folks who have had gastric bypass. It is very good.

    Lapband or Bypass?

George, your comment that bypass will take years off your life is very interesting. I haven't heard that before. Can you expand on this? How does it take years off your life? Do you know of any studies to support this? Please advise.

To Tell or Not to Tell

My surgery date is 9/2/08. I have told two of my kids, ages 10 and 18. They are now both very supportive, but my 10 year old had some problems with it at first. He was afraid for my health and thought I was taking too much risk (he is a very smart kid). He had a few bad dreams after I told him what I was planning on doing. I had to spend a lot of time educating him about the procedure and explaining why I thought it was healthier for me to have the surgery than not to have it. He thought about it for a week or so and then told me that he had been praying a lot for me. I took him to one of my 4 hour nutrional meetings at the hospital and he learned more than I did. After the meeting, he told me that was "going to do this with me." He meant he was going to be supportive and follow my post surgery eating plan. (He doesn't have a weight problem, but just wants to be supportive). To my surprise, tonight he told me that he was very proud of me! I feel so blessed. After all that, if you decided to tell your children, be sure to educate them.

    Happy to be done!

Congratulations and best of luck. My insurance has approved me for both Lap Gastric Bypass and lapband. I'm trying to decide which one I'll do.
