  1. Symptoms of diabetes can include polyuria (frequent urination) and nocturia (nighttime urination). With sleep apnea, nocturia is often present as as well. So, if your apnea and diabetes resolve, you may very well not experience nocturia in the future.
  2. Wow - you’ve done well! I was 200# at surgery (VSG). I’m 5’4”. Surgery was on July 9, 2020. At 6 months I was 162# (38# loss). Today I am almost 14 mos. post-op and I am 149#. In recent months, I maybe lose 1# a month, and at this rate, it could take another year for me to get to goal, but I am of good cheer and stick to my new eating habits. Hang in there!

I need a pep talk (rant to follow)

When I had my psych consult (pre-op), the therapist said I hadn’t failed those scores of diets over the years; the diets had failed me. Having had the bariatric surgery, I have to say this: No, it has not been easy, but I feel like my body is my friend now, and I’m not always fighting it to get my weight down.
  6. Hi there Summermoose. You might be in ketosis. That can cause some smells.

Yup, I would say my hair loss lasted about 3 months.
  8. Agree you won’t feel as much restriction with puréed and soft foods.

18 months out & still loosing

Hi rjan, I enjoyed reading your post. I was sleeved in July 2020, having a SW of 200# at 5’4”, similar to your stats. I am losing weight at a REALLY slow pace at this point. It has taken me 8 mos. to lose the last 10 lbs!! I figure it’s due to 1) a relatively low starting BMI, 2) my age (68), and 3) having the sleeve vs. the bypass. But your post is personally encouraging to me; I’ll keep plugging along!

I’d talk to your nutritionist. It may very well be that you aren’t consuming enough calories.

  17. Yup, it’s fluids. Best to not weigh until 3 weeks or so post op.
  18. Some folks swear by Fairlife protein shakes (personally, I prefer Premier, but ymmv).

    Pain, pain, and more pain

Intense pain and surgeon doesn’t respond? I’d go to the ER. Hope you get some relief and feel better!

    Completely over the darn scale

I am 13 months post-op and losing about 1-1.5 pounds/month at this point. We are all different and lose at different rates.

    NO WEIGHT LOSS

Fluid!! Don’t weigh until 2-3 weeks postop!

    Help‼️‼️

Hi Garay, after my sleeve surgery I didn’t weigh for several weeks, and now, a year out I only weigh once a week. Back before I had surgery, whenever I was on a diet (many, many diets) I weighed daily, and my mood was dictated by the scale. I’m determined to get away from that mindset now. Sorry, I’m rambling…..you’re doing fine!
