I was sleeved July 2020. I can eat 2 pieces bacon with no problem but, Lisa, make sure your nutritionist is ok with you having it at this point. I am always surprised with the differences in plans.
  2. I have always loved sweets, but artificial sweeteners haven’t triggered anything in me post-op. That’s just me and YMMV.
  3. Ugh, so sorry this is happening. My sleeve surgery got cancelled back in March 2020, but I was able to get it in July 2020. If I hadn’t had potential heart issues, I would have gone to Mexico for the surgery. There are several fine bariatric centers over the border.
  4. My obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was well controlled with CPAP for several years. Some months after my VSG surgery, my events got crazy high. My sleep doctor ordered another sleep study (yuck) and determined I now have central sleep apnea (CSA), which isn’t affected, apparently, by one’s weight. So, I now use an adapto- servo unit and I’m doing fine.

    Listen to your sleeve…

I agree with what Jaelzion said. The cues for being full vary greatly and are highly individualistic. For me, it is a fullness that tells me “one more bite’s going to be really uncomfortable”.
  6. I was sleeved at CC (main campus) in July 2020. My surgeon was Dr. Rodriguez (he’s since transferred to CC Saudi Arabia). I was self-pay, and could have had the surgery elsewhere for half the price, but I have great confidence in CC and I wanted the peace of mind. They have a great Bariatrics team. You’re in good hands! You’ll be fine!

    Back to ER

I had a surgery several years ago (unrelated to bariatric) and was unable to urinate afterwards. Had to be catheterized a few days after surgery. Apparently it’s not uncommon. They removed the catheter a few days later and the plumbing worked fine.

    Liquid diet

I did my 2-week pre-op liquid diet twice: the first time the surgery was cancelled the night before (Covid); the second time was right before my actual surgery. I was elated to be on the liquid diet both times because it brought me that much closer to my visions of a better life!

Acid Reflux or GERD post surgery

I had mild GERD a starting a few weeks after sleeve surgery. I never had it before the surgery. So, my surgeon put me on omeprazole for a few months. There has been no recurrence since I went off it.
  10. I like Ocean Spray Diet 5 Ruby Red (pink grapefruit flavor) mixed with a splash of vodka on ice.

    I’m nervous

Welcome BirdLady! My big tip: As tempting as it may be, don’t weigh yourself for at least 3 weeks after the surgery.
  15. • My apologies if this is worded weirdly.. but, How did your tummy feel after the surgery? Were you able to *feel* your stomach, internally due to the surgery? - I could not feel my stomach. I had minimal discomfort and it was controlled with OTC Tylenol. I also had no nausea whatsoever. • Did you have to have a drain? Note: I'm not sure if this is absolutely necessary, I assume they would discuss it with me tomorrow. If so, how did that feel? Did it hurt or feel weird when it was removed? - no drain. It was laparoscopic for me. • How long did you have to be on clear fluids after thesurgery? If so, what clear fluids did you have? - I was surprised - the morning after the surgery they offered me protein shakes. • Did you prefer cold, room temperature, or warm fluids? - I had no preference, and was permitted (and able) to take all temps. • Sipping. This one is a point of major confusion for me. Would the process of sipping be taking in enough just to wet your tongue, or is it enough to swallow? How long did it last for you? When were you able to drink down 1 ounce of Fluidin one go even if slowly rather than over the course of 30 minutes or so? - I interpret sipping as “baby” swallows - more than just wetting my lips/tongue, but smaller than a gulp. • Something I read said you won't be able to drink anything for the first 24 hours and that fluids will be through the IV, is that true? - that may vary from surgeon to surgeon. I was able to sip clear liquids the evening of the day of my surgery. • How did you sleep in the first week? If you are a side sleeper, when were you able to finally sleep on your side? - I was able to sleep fully prone in my bed, on my back and on my side. LurkieKitty, you’ll do fine - I have no regrets whatsoever. I will keep you in my prayers!
  16. I was on Actigall for gallstone prevention. For 6 mos. post-op, I believe.
  17. Memar, there is a phenomenon termed the “three week stall”. It is quite well known, often occurring at 3 weeks post op, but can happen at other times post op. Your body is just catching up and if you stay with the plan your bariatric team has outlined, you’ll see movement on the scale again!

    Last Supper

Steak, baked potato with lots of butter, salad, several glasses of red wine. Cake for dessert. 😉
  19. FootballMom, I copied this graphic from another poster (possibly another forum). You might want to show it to your mom.

    Constipated HELP!!

Miralax and/or Benefiber and/or Smooth Move tea might be helpful
  21. Hi Devi, and welcome! I was self-pay (VSG at Cleveland Clinic). Their “package price” included a year of nutritionist and psychologist appointments.
  22. I’m a slow loser, too. Maybe averaging .5 to 1.5 lbs/month loss at this point. But there’s no need to give up!
  23. Wow, amazing story and pics! Congrats!
  24. Wow, if you’re able to see another surgeon, I sure would.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet Woes

I had a 2-week liquid only diet, consisting of 4 Premier shakes, unlimited broth, sugar-free popsicles, caffeine-free sugar and tea. So, as you can see, surgeons differ radically in what they permit you to eat. 300 calories/day seems excessively low to me, though - you may want to confirm/clarify this with your surgical team.
