    Post surgery weight gain

That is pretty ridiculous for him to say so early post-op. BruinGirl, if you don't mind me asking, what was your starting BMI?

    Post surgery weight gain

Yup, fluids. Although it’s difficult, stay off the scale for 3 weeks or so after the surgery - you’ll be happier!
  3. Talk to your surgeon! This is way too important an issue to consult with an Internet forum!
  4. Hi Mimi - you got this! I was self-pay, too! (I see you’re from Tennessee- I’m a UT Knoxville grad!)

    A stall already?

I am 18 months post-op and have had several stalls. It’s quite common, and can happen at any time.

    Feeling bad

Was your test for Covid or pregnancy?

    ONEderland!

    That’s great - congrats!!
  8. After I get up, I drink a few cups of black coffee and some water. I call my first meal of the day “breakfast”, and that occurs about 11 am. So, some might call it “brunch” or “lunch”.

    protein powders

Hi Lisa, I used unflavored Genepro.

    Panniculectomy worth it?

Hi Writergirl, just curious: if your insurance will pay for skin removal sx, why wouldn’t you be able to choose the surgeon? Cosmetic surgeons do panniculectomies, and the results might be be aesthetically pleasing……

    High BMI and….

My BMI was 34.3 (considered obese) when I was sleeved. BMI was too low for my insurance to pay, so I paid it myself. This was in the U.S.
  12. Not sure what your situation or question is. Can you give more details?
  13. I had no problems with those foods, either. I did not try almond milk or Isopure (I did Genepro occasionally for a few months, mixed into refried beans, etc.).
  14. Hey there, AnotherGuy, from another Ohioan! I am 18 mos. post-op, BMI about 25.1 now. Several months ago I started sleeping under a down comforter (that was in the summer!). The down comforter isn’t doing the trick any more, so I sleep under an electric blanket at the highest setting of 10 with a dachshund plastered next to me. My hands feel like blocks of ice, and I sleep with socks on every night. But I’ll take it, happy to be at this point. Interesting about the iron (mine checks out ok).
  15. Hi Seadoo! I was self pay. I had my initial consult in January 2020 at Cleveland Clinic. They scheduled me for VSG in March 2020. (Unfortunately, all elective surgeries were cancelled the night before I was to have mine, and I ended up having the VSG IN July 2020. I guess it depends on availability of elective surgeries in your area.)

    Gastroparesis upset

Hi Courtney, I would say that, what with having a diagnosis of gastroparesis, a bariatric surgeon would be the best person to discuss the possibility of having weight loss surgery. Best wishes, and glad you joined the forum!

    Back to ER

Oh gosh, ClaireLynn, hope they can determine what’s causing this. Best wishes, and let us know!

    Painkillers

I took solid tablets about 2 days post-VSG (but check with your surgeon).
  19. Jenn5120, consider that not taking in enough calories/protein AND going to the gym this soon post-op could contribute to a weight loss stall. Have you checked with your nutritionist about going to the gym?
  20. Hello AnotherGuy, from a fellow Ohioan! Loved your post - it was inspiring (and you’re a darn good writer!)
  21. Totally love that response - I will remember it!!
  22. Not to worry, Msleo88. Many bariatric veterans suggest that you not weigh for at least 3 weeks post-op due to the crazy weights fluctuations caused by fluid. I know it’s hard to resist weighing, but stick to the plan and you’ll see results.

    When does weight loss start?

Hi Angelina - congratulations on your surgery! Many bariatric veterans recommend not weighing for at least 3 weeks after surgery (due to the fluid retention). I know it’s hard to refrain from weighing, but put it out of your mind for now. You’ll be satisfied in the long run!
  24. Hello there Lady Godiva! I, too, was blessed to find my 2 week pre-op liquid diet not too difficult. In fact, I did it twice: the first time, on day 13, my surgery was cancelled due to the Covid surge. The second time around, I admit I had had a few more food funerals, but when the liquid diet started, it was actually a relief to not stress about food and to know that I was on my way to success!
  25. LadyH, I understand your anger and frustration. Keep us posted.
