I have been obese all of my adult life. As a child I was normal size very active and never gave my weight a second thought.  I do have some medical issues that have contributed to my current condition but lack of exercise and a healthy eating habit has definitely contributed as well, and factor in a sendentary job condition spells obesity.  I have tried over the years several diets, medicine, and yes exercise and some worked for a while but I would always gain again.  Its very frustrating and can tend to make you feel like a failure.  I had read about the lap band, researched it a while and finally attending one of the meetings.  I stepped out of my confort zone and made that appointment. Dr. Bagnato was very kind and didn't make me feel like this condition was all my fault.  We discussed my options and He assisted me with optaining my insurance approval.  It took me a while. Once approved I scheduled my surgery but then I had to move for job reason... the thought of having to start over with another surgeon was just not an option so when I could I rescheduled with Dr. Bagnato and had my surgery 10/17/08.  I was totally excited and apprehensive at the same time but I think that is normal.  It took me quite a while to reach my fill levels as it is a 2hour drive for me to get to my clinic appointments but the clinic was most helpful to me.  I have to say my success hasn't at all been typical, lost a minimum amount of weight and have been stalled for well over 8 months and have not actually started gaining again.  I had let 6 months go between fills and a review and had another fill.  Recently I have had some issues and currently I am under the Dr's care again.  Basically I hope that I will get to start over and be the sucess story that so many here acheive.
