janesays replied to soonerjadeou's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hey! I was born and raised in dallas-- went to high school in plano. I get banded next month, but that will happen where I live now, which is columbia MO (where I go to college). I go back to plano over breaks though. congrats on all of your success! we have pretty much the same starting and goal weight! -
well, we missed you on here! let us know what your surgery date ends up being and if we're close to the same day.
-
good to see you back on here! and good job on losing that much weight so far-- i bet it is really rewarding. my surgery date is nov. 20, so that I can get back in the swing of things over thanksgiving break. looks like we will both get the band about the same time. keep posting and updating on here!

I was looking through my closet tonight, looking for old clothes that I knew didn't fit me so I could make them "goal" clothes in the months to come. Well, I found a shirt I was SURE would not fit.... size 16, and you know, it didn't really fit like it is supposed to.. BUT I could button one button... and when I looked in the mirror it made my boobs look FABULOUS! haha I just shimmied a little for myself and put it back in my closet..... saving it for a much BETTER nsv in a few months... when I can actually wear it outside of my room and don't look like a hoochie!

Hi guys! My name is Jane, I'm 20 years old and am graduating college in a year. I've been overweight since I was about 9 years old. One of my earliest memories is a boy calling me fat on the playground, and after I cried about it, he came to my house later that night holding flowers... with his mother pushing behind him. However, I've always known and told myself that I am a pretty girl, I'm just not as healthy as I should be. My mom is a big inspiration for me, and she has had TWO hip replacement surgeries, among other health issues related to her weight. I just know how scary it was and is for her, and I never want to get to that place. I'm so excited to change my life for the better. I've lost about 15 pounds since June and am holding steady, but I know that without this surgery I would just keep gaining and gaining. I had my first support group meeting tonight and met some great people. Tomorrow I have my meeting with the nutritionist and the personal trainer, next week I meet with the psych, then a few weeks later the meeting with the nurse, my surgeon, and FINALLY--- my surgery, november 20! My mom is flying up to stay with me for two weeks (a few days beforehand and 1.5 weeks after), and my stepdad is coming for a few days over Thanksgiving. I am so appreciative that I have a supportive family, but even more appreciative of this group! It is really hard at my age to talk to people about my surgery, and I know I need the support you guys give. Good luck everyone!

hi there! I'm 20 and I will be having my lapband surgery on Nov. 20. I've looked at this surgery for nearly 2.5 years, and battled with insurance and finally decided it wasn't worth the hassle and opted for self-pay. I chose the surgery center close to where I go to college, not only because it will make it easier for me to get check-ups but ALSO because their price is about $5,000 less than previous places I had looked at, and in my opinion, it is actually a better surgeon and better hospital (I attribute the low cost to my college being in a smaller town with a lower cost of living). All in all, I will be paying a little over $12,000, a big sum of money for anyone, not just people our age. In my head, though, I've justified it with the fact that I am graduating early and saving myself that cost of tuition. Also, anticipating self-pay all this time, I've been putting money aside. Loans and leaving college with a lot of debt can be VERY stressful though, so I hope you can come to a decision where you are healthy without sacrificing your happiness. Good luck! I don't think I've been of any help but I just wanted to let you know there are people out there in similar situations! -
yay! im so excited for you!

Notorious November Weightloss Spreadsheet
janesays replied to Froggi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Surgery date - November 20 Highest Weight - 260 Preop diet starting weight - TBD Surgery weight (Your weight the day of surgery) - TBD Current weight - 244 Goal weight - 150 -
i've been putting off confirming the date in this forum for fear of jinxing myself, but i think i'll be okay. i have the best nurse coordinator, sylvia, in the world! she managed to schedule me for surgery nov. 20, my first choice date! the only thing that could change that now is if anything goes wrong in my appointments over the next few weeks. i have a group support meeting oct. 9, appts. with the nutritionist and the personal trainer next friday Oct. 10, my psych appt. oct. 15, an appt. with the nurse oct 24, FINALLY an appt. with the surgeon nov. 5, and then it's smooth sailing (besides the pre-op diet...) until surgery nov. 20! i'm so excited!! after two years of debating the surgery.... i'm afraid to talk about it like it's actually happening!

Hey guys! I've lost about 16 pounds give or take the last 4 months.... i've had some bad weeks and some good weeks, but in the end that's roughly a pound a week! not too shabby for dieting without the band!

I tried voting but when I clicked on the link the site said there was an error? good luck bbk!

hey everyone!! it's so nice to finally have our own thread. i've been thinking about the lap-band for years-- my first seminar was in Dallas over 2 years ago. I went again in Dallas this past May but I decided I will have the surgery in Missouri where I go to school now, just because it will be better during the year to be closer to my doctor in case anything happens... and it will make getting fills and unfills a lot easier. I have yet to meet him, but I hear great things. I have talked over the phone with the surgery center and it looks like I will be getting surgery at the beginning of my Thanksgiving break-- right around 11/21 or so! I'll keep you guys updated when it gets closer... I'm in Beijing right now, interning as a journalist at the Olympics! It's very exciting and all but being surrounded by healthy and skinny athletes all day keeps me VERY aware of my weight. Anyways, being this far away makes it very hard for me to do anything about surgery now, but I scheduled a seminar for September with my new doc. as for names.... i like what you guys have come up with so far! if i think of any, i'll be sure to add it here. a few: -narcissistic novembers (that one will be tough to type out all the time!) -newvembers, or new novembers i like notorious novembers a lot! so glad to finally meet you guys! i'm finally ready to start this journey!

I'm trying to find the right date to set for my surgery. I won't be able to get the band until mid-September, but I don't want to wait until winter break to have surgery. I'm wondering if I had the surgery at the end of the week (like a Thursday afternoon or Friday), when do you think I would be ready to go back to classes? I only have one Friday class and I can easily miss it... it's the other days of the week I'm worried about. As far as what my daily activities would entail-- walking 5-10 minutes at a time to classes/my apartment, and carrying my laptop around with me for note-taking. So what do you think? Could I be back in classes by Monday or Tuesday? Thanks for the advice!

I am so sorry this happened to you! I hope that when you are ready to start dating again, this doesn't end up hurting what could be a really good relationship with a girl who appreciates you for who you really are, and knows she is lucky to be with a guy like you! Good luck with your band. Believe me, I KNOW the feeling!! When I was in 9th grade I fell in love with the boy sitting across english class from me, and he probably didn't even know my name for about a year! We were pretty good friends and then we grew apart, I dated another guy briefly and had thaaaat drama, but a few years later I was still secretly in love with him. At my surprise birthday party me and a bunch of friends got drunk, and I wasn't expecting him to be there, but he was. Needless to say, we hooked up that night and had the most complicated relationship for the next 1.5 years until I finally came to my senses and realized that I deserved so much better than him! He didn't appreciate me and never called me, unless late at night! I had put him up on some sort of pedestal all those years and when we finally dated, he just didn't measure up to my standards anymore. On top of that, I found out he had pretty much the same problem I had-- where he was in love with some other girl who he thought was way out of his league and she treats him like crap. We ended things 6 months ago and while I am still struggling to get over him, it secretly makes me feel better to know that he is feeling all the pain he gave me by lusting after that other girl! I agree with all of you here, I would LOVE to "bump into him" in a year with all my new-found confidence, but if I can give any advice from my experiences though, forget this loser! If he doesn't see what an amazing girl you are right now then he doesn't deserve to get the "benefits" of your soon-to-be even hotter body!

yep, I go to Mizzou! I'll be banded up in Columbia now, but probably not until Thanksgiving break now.
Glad to hear your surgery went well! I'd love to hear an update!

College bandsters- how long until back in class?
janesays replied to janesays's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think I knew deep down that I need to wait for a longer break, like all of you have said, I just hate to keep pushing it back-- I was originally going to have the surgery 2 years ago. But what's a few more months, right? :smile2: I was also considering doing it over thanksgiving break. Since I have a week off, what about the friday before? I would have about 10 days to recover before going to classes again. Does that sound doable? Only problem I see-- Thanksgiving dinner is now soup! haha but I guess that's the price I have to pay for binge eating at all the past Thanksgivings... -
Almost all of my friends are of a healthy or "normal" weight. I'm not really planning on telling very many of them when I get the surgery. However, the other day I was hanging out with my best friend (who is my height but much skinnier) after working out and laying by the pool. She was telling me about her grandma who is trying to lose weight and looking at riskier surgeries, and we got on the subject of the lapband. She asked me if I would ever do it if I needed it, and it just sort of came out. I'm so glad I told her because we share almost everything, and this is going to be a major part of my life from now on. It was just a huge relief, especially because she said she'd support me no matter what. Her only complaint-- she said she was going to miss my boobs! (My nickname in our high school circle was "jugs"... I sure a lot of you can relate). I said me too!

Dallas/Texas people, we should totally get together when we're skinny next summer for six flags! I haven't been in a few years.... I would probably fit now I just hate the idea of trying extra hard for me to fit specifically. Another thing I'd like to do-- My brother told me he'd take me to vegas when I turn 21, so I think I'll go at the end of next summer and get some nice dresses/outfits to wear out.

That's ridiculous! This is also one of the reasons why I'm not publicizing my surgery plans. A lot of my friends are in serious relationships, but whenever I say things like "I don't see myself getting married anytime soon" people might assume that I will change this belief when I am skinny. HELLO?? I'm not getting married anything soon because I am TWENTY!
