banded yesterday and feelin just fine!

I guess this is my "update" thread so instead of telling people who ask about me separately I'll just put it in here.. It's long because I guess now I'm using this as my own personal journal, so just read the parts that you want to know about. Today I had my 4 week visits. I met with the personal trainer (physical therapist as far as my insurance company knows... haha I love my hospital), then I met with my surgeon and adjustment nurse, and then the dietician. Personal Trainer-- I love going to work out with this guy because (a) he's really smart, so I can trust that he's telling me the right things to do for my body... but ( more importantly HE IS REALLY HOT! haha i tell myself that he is totally checking out my butt when I'm doing squats and lunges and stuff (cmon, I've got a cute butt in these workout pants) so I guess that's motivating me to work harder! haha no but really, I push myself a lot more with him than I do working out by myself. Today I may have pushed myself too hard, he kept telling me that this 96 year old woman he works with could lift more weight/walk faster/do more pushups than me. I pushed myself so hard that I nearly blacked out when I was doing backward lunges and he had to come catch me! Totally romantic in the movies but so embarrassing in real life, haha. I also almost blacked out again in the locker room too! Which is really weird for me, because I never get like that, ever. I had to sit down for a bit and was late to my adjustment appointment. woops! anyways, he does tests with me every time, like there is one physical test so he can see how fast I can walk (that speedwalking at the olympics is harder than it looks!) The last time we met was 20 pounds ago, and I walked 1900 feet in six minutes and my heart rate was 170. This time, I walked 2000 feet in six minutes and my heart rate was 150! So basically, in the last six weeks I upped my speed a little and my heart was working less hard to do it. Fill Nurse/Surgeon - This was my first time really meeting the fill nurse, Tina. She is so awesome! My surgeon came in to check on me and goes "wow you've really lost weight haven't you!?" I go, "oh you tell that to all your patients," and of course he was like, yeah, actually I do, that's why I'm a good surgeon. (He was just nominated for a "top docs" award at the magazine I work for) Anyways, needles have never been a big deal for me at all so that didn't hurt. She said there were 5ccs in my band already though? So she just added 1 more cc since I told her I had healed about 3 weeks ago. It was definitely a strange experience though! I could totally feel the saline going in through the tube, I guess because it was so cold. Nothing exciting happened with the dietician. She said I've been doing well and while for the rest of the day should stick to full liquids, starting tomorrow I can go back to "testing" foods and eating solids. Alright! That's all I've got to update. I'm going to be soooo sore tomorrow from my personal trainer.. I can already feel it, since I haven't worked out that hard since before surgery. My legs and arms are like spaghetti!
  3. haha you got me. when i read your wall post i was like "i don't think i said anything funny?" so i had to read what i wrote again, and yeah. texas is the best state. its serious.

like i said. jealousy. its no big deal, we get it all the time. ;)

  4. haha you're just jealous.... you know you want to live in the ... best midwestern state .... missourah. i couldn't say it was the best state. clearly we all know that is texas.

  5. current weight.. 229.8!! already broke my first plateau.... yay! that lasted 3 weeks!
  6. haha i normally hate finals week... but this semester was especially rough. except now im excited, because i guess i was so stressed yesterday that i could hardly eat anything more than a protein bar and 2 bananas.... well guess what, i lost 2 pounds pretty much overnight! i broke my first of probably many plateaus... felt good. hopefully the stress is out of my system though, so that i'll get a fill today... i'll need some help over this stress-free winter break..

  7. aw well now thats just mean! :) you'd think someone would tell you not to be mean to the girl who, according to aerosmith, has got a gun...

  8. janey! did i say you could call me janey? haha just kidding, i guess you can... but just this one time. ;)

    CONFESSION TIME..spill it

haha no, plain, she's not bulimic, just lucky. we share a bathroom and that bathroom is connected to my bedroom wall, so i (unfortunately) hear practically everything that goes on in there... haha congrats to those of you here who have reached that size 6 through your hard work and counting calories! i hope to be there one day too, and borrow all my roommates dresses... hehe. one of my other roommates is a size ZERO! but she looks like she could be 10 years old and gets harassed by the bouncers at bars even though she's 21... no thanks, I'll stick to my goal of size 6/8. one day the weight may come on one or both of them and never fall off... and who knows, maybe they will be looking into the lapband one day and seek out my advice. i really hope they can manage their weight without it coming to surgery, but a part of me would like them to see for once what life is like for us!

    Surgery Postponed

ohhh no... my heart sunk for you when i saw the title to this thread.. :blushing: i always like to look on the bright side of things, so here's what i thought of: -think of all the weight you could lose on your OWN on this long pre-op diet! plenty of people do this diet for 3 weeks... so can YOU! -you got to do a test run of your surgery. next time you'll know what to expect -well... at least you are getting your yeast infection cleared up. this reminded me of the grossest joke i have ever heard in my entire life (but so appropriate): what do you call an anorexic girl with a yeast infection? .....a quarter pounder with cheese! ahahaha ahhhhh okay hopefully that cheered you up, even for just a second. chin up! dec. 23 will be here in no time!

    Getting Banded in the Morning!

well lets see i had my surgery early on a thursday morning, and i believe i stopped taking the pain pills saturday so i was ok to drive by sunday. i couldnt sit in a chair for very long though.. not atleast until about a week later. i took a test on saturday at noon that lasted 1.5 hours and i had to take a break halfway through so i could stand up.. i was totally back to normal by 10 days though. it kind of hurt to sleep on my side for the first few days, and thats how i always sleep, so i wasnt sleeping normal until maybe a week later. but now i dont feel any pain when im going to sleep, i was just never much of a normal sleeper!

    Getting Banded in the Morning!

try not to worry... chances are your liver will be fine bc you lost 15 pounds on your preop diet! thats awesome! good luck tomorrow!! and yeah my big savior was ice chips. i had probably 6-8 cups worth of water in the form of ice chips that first day, when i wasnt sleeping. i was soooo thirsty!
  13. oh man thats just adorable. like youve got mail or something. i cant remember the plot of that movie, so just go with it. haha lets see what is a good remedy for nervousness? umm... cant fix that one for you. im always nervous on first-third dates. at least because its a party he won't be watching what you eat!

    CONFESSION TIME..spill it

oh man, I can't wait for my day to come! Except for the ex I am thinking of, I'm hoping I will skip the reconnecting and doing breakfast thing and instead slap him across the face like I should have done many, many times before for the way he treated me! okay.... now for my confession time: My size 6 (sometimes 3/4) roommate pisses me off with her eating habits. She has a perfect figure and all day everyday she eats unhealthy food. Here's what she ate today: two big bowls of some fruity kids Cereal, a big serving of hamburger helper, and a chipotle burrito for dinner. plus yesterday she practically forced me to bake Cookies with her! She ate like 2 cookies today, but I've had like 4 or 5! I finally called her out on it, telling her i've tried really hard to eat only healthy foods and have resisted eating along with her when she eats bad things, but we absolutely can NOT have cookies in the house! she just reminded me that it will catch up to her when she turns 40. i told her outloud i hope that doesnt happen, but i secretly hope it DOES! and that's horrible to think-- but she needs to start thinking about what shes putting in her body! (plus-- it just pisses me off that she can eat worse than me but still be skinny. )
  17. hey! just checking in to see how you are recovering! hope everything's good :)

  18. you are soooo right! i get my first fill on wednesday.... hopefully that means i will start losing again! I've been between 231 and 233 for the past 3 weeks... ready to drop again! Although... I have noticed my clothes getting loser even though the scales haven't dropped... woo!

    Teen Minors?

yeah its totally worth the wait, so don't get discouraged! I first looked into the band when I turned 18, so I didn't ever have to look for a doctor who would do the surgery on a minor... but I didn't get banded until last month, 2.5 years later at age 20. Looking back, of course I wish I had decided to go through with it at 18, because I have lost almost 30 pounds in the pre-op and since surgery, and I am like 5 pounds away from the weight I was when I first looked into the surgery (and the weight I was when I first started college.. ugh). But it wasn't the right time for me, mentally, and waiting so long actually helped to prepare me for this lifelong journey. If I had come to college at a lower weight, who knows what would have been different. im guessing i probably would have done worse in my classes, had a different set of friends, but probably would have dated more guys than i did. But at least I know now that the friends I have and the guys I dated liked me, just for being me. There are pros and cons to everything. Good luck to everyone on their journey!
  20. oh lucky you, you only have a week of the pre-op diet! i mean, for me the first five days were the hardest, so the extra days on the end didn't phase me... but still, should be good. good luck doing it over christmas! i had over thanksgiving... so i feel like its just about as hard haha

  21. hey hey girl! im doing well, all healed. but you know, since im healed, i am not getting full anymore. haha i haven't gained any weight back or anything, so thats good, but still at the weight on my ticker. when do you start your pre-op?

  22. good luck with your surgery today!

  23. haha it might be good to experience other places... briefly. and yeah sometimes i forget that other states didn't learn about their state history for an entire year, but then again, they don't have as much awesome history as we do.

oh and, six flags? there were only 6 flags flying over texas, there were never six flags flying over.... missouri.

  24. haha thats awesome, walking along the river walk was my favorite part of san antonio! our prom was at southfork ranch, that place that was in the old tv show Dallas. man, texas is the best. i miss it so much. i left tx for college, and i mean... i'm glad i did, because i get to see a totally different atmosphere, but "outsiders" really hate texas. whatever, we both know they're just jealous!

  25. i love austin, my brother lives there so i visit almost every time i go back home to dallas. only been to san antonio once.... but it was beautiful (as is the entire state of texas)! we stayed at a hotel that used to be a hospital overlooking the alamo?

    anyways, keep me updated!
