AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Oh ColorMeHappy.... I can't BELIEVE you had a leak. First let me say how relieved I am to hear you are now feeling better and out of danger. Second let me say I'm so sorry you had to BLACKOUT for them to understand the seriousness of your pain and complication. I would think the moment your blood pressure came back low they'd send you to CT to rule the leak out. Gets me boiled a little to know you were suffering for hours. Please keep us updated. We are here for venting and distracting. Congrats on surviving!!!!! Onward!

  4. Hi Those In The Know. I'm making a Thai broth I really like and have added some gen-pro unflavored powder to it. Anyone know if you freeze it and then re-heat it later in the microwave if it's a palatable consistency? Thanks!!

    Concerned about Slow Progress

I'm no expert cuz I'm pre-op but I've been doing a lot of reading about Stalls and that you should be measuring your body during those times instead of weighing. Are you post menopausal? I've also read that could make the loss slower. Having said all that... think 35 pounds in 3 months is INCREDIBLE! I hope you feel accomplished. In closing... having researched Bypass like it's my PHD dissertation I would say most people experience the rush of loss and then a sudden crawl and most people say it picks back up again. Good luck, keep plowing ahead and keep us updated!!

Welcome! June 9th Bypass here! What protein shake are you drinking?
  7. Oof. This is hard to respond to. Let me say this... a new you means a NEW YOU. It might be complicated for him... I guess I should say for your partner doesn't matter, male or female... might be complicated for them to wrap their head around how you will be changing and how that might affect your relationship. So perhaps they need some grace and time. Maybe they'll step up. Particularly if you are patient. AAANNNND... I started with that because I'm a big believer in not wasting your time with someone who doesn't consider themselves to be your biggest advocate. New you means better you. Get thru this surgery and get healthy and then maybe it's time to look at some other parts of your life. Could need an overhaul.
  8. Hi all! What are some good Facebook pages to join with pseudo accounts? Any good Bypass pages? #secretMeow
  9. WELCOME TO THE LOSERS!! The more the merrier. Here's to seeing the Wonderland again in the not-so-distant future. THAT IS A REALITY OF THIS SURGERY!!!
  10. Groovy... this is all so helpful! I'm going to check out the nectar powder. I'm with you on the protein drinks, the upset stomach and the daughter who maY have figured it out. How old is yours? Mine is 11 and I've told her I'm having hernia surgery. Which is not a lie. But she's a sharp cookie and I may have left some information that says otherwise in her sight. It's such a fragile age and I just don't want her to start thinking/worrying about her own weight. Otherwise only my husband and my closest friend (and her mother) know. I think the mental preparedness class sounds pretty good. I have to say I'm not certain my center's prep has been the best. I am a self-pay as my insurance requires TWO medicated co-morbidities and currently I only have reflux so maybe they don't require as much "homework." I did have a Covid test for my EGD a few weeks ago. Not pleasant but not terrible. Hold your breathe and close your eyes, prepare for the swab to last 30 seconds and then be relived when it only lasts for 15. That's my advice for myself as I go in for another before my June 9th Surgery. Oh also if you happen to be stuffed in one nostril ask them to swab the other. ONWARD!

How ya liking the protein shakes? Which is your favorite? I've just made my Fage 0%, P2 powder, Stevia cocoa extract, shake. 28 grams pro. 10 carb. It's pretty close to my usual non-diet morning shake except no frozen banana (which I really miss) and real peanut butter instead of P2. What's your favorite brand of shake?
  15. I have always known this to be true. Too much data confirming to question it. However... isn't it odd that sugar can make you dump but artificial doesn't?
  16. Takoda! AHHHHHHH! We re sending you all the good stuff. Please let us know when you feel up to it how you're doing and if you are sitting in pre-op waiting, pop in! What time are you scheduled? I'll try and check in. Hoping for a gas-free, quick and easy procedure for you! Let us know!!!!! ((9goodstuff)))
  17. We are twins. I've gained 10 pounds these last two weeks. I will lead the way with surgery on the 9th and share as much with you as possible.
  18. Any preppers today? I didn't do much except pay for surgery (oh boy) and resist carbs... until after dinner when I had dessert. But for me that's a victory. Trying to reduce bit by bit. 8 more days til surgery. How's everyone feeling?

Do they allow for sprays? I love the butter substitute spray and some salt free Mrs Dash (several flavors) on Broccoli and sometimes asparagus. But I could eat the well steamed broccoli everyday. Thats quite a diet. Hang in there! I bet you'll lose a lot before surgery!!

  22. Since I'm about 10 days away from a bypass I'd love to hear from the Veteran Bypassers but of course Sleevers too as I know it's not THAT different. I think what keeps me awake at night is the LOSS of the joy I receive celebrating with food or splurging as a Foodie with my husband (naturally trim) or the joy of treats with my children. I don't need the speech about finding joy in other things. I get that. And I know food has been an anchor to me for many years now. A burden. But I do also get great joy from it. From looking forward to it. Even during my years of temporarily successful Weight Watchers attempts I could save points for a big treat on the weekend and felt great joy in looking forward to that bowl of ice cream or fried chicken and potatoes. In fact, it's the first thing my physician-husband (who recommends WLS to his patients) said to me when I told him I was considering the surgery ... "But... food makes you happy." So... I guess I'd like to hear from those who have found a way to still find JOY in their food. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

So no pre-op diet for you, @Board? I didn't think I'd do the food funeral either because the last 2 months in covid have been one big food fest. But we did order Chinese last night and a dessert I won't describe cuz I think it's probably bad form to talk about food too specifically on a WLS forum. I am trying to reduce and then completely cut sugar during these last 8 days so I can deal with the headaches and flu-like symptoms (that comes every time I try and limit carbs) BEFORE I have surgery. Unfortunately I can't have motrin to help the headache I'm experiencing right now. Just gonna power thru. I already feel a bit like a baby about this prep. No sugar. Headache but no pain reliever allowed. I gotta toughen up. And I will.

So exciting as these dates approach. @Boardfatgirl ... whose name will not be accurate soon enough we can be one day apart bypass twins! @colormehappy and @havethree... I have the same worries. I dreampt last a friend who recently passed from pancreatic cancer came to me and said not to do the surgery. I woke in a pile of sweat. It's the voluntary part, I think. When you have a family who needs you and a life to live and you choose to risk it... obviously in the hopes to better yourself. It's scary. But I'm trying to think less. Just ... think. Less. I've made the decision. My surgeon has done nearly 4000 WLS. I'm just trusting its the right thing.
