Feeling good...can I start the next stage diet?
thesuse2000 replied to audefacere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please just follow your surgeons instructions. There are reasons for them - that are all about protecting you and preventing leaks/complications. You can make it through it! -
I do occasionally eat them, but my problem with them is they don't keep me feeling full/satisfied for as long as real food does. So on days I eat them I usually end up eating more calories overall. But they're handy to keep on hand for a quick, not too unhealthy, snack when real and healthy meal options are not available.

help, im gaining, and im feeling down
thesuse2000 replied to rosebud1258's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You may have to look deep inside and find the strength that's in there. You don't need the support of your family to make better choices for yourself. If anyone gives you a hard time just let them know that you are taking steps to take care if yourself and this is what you need. You need to take back the reins of control. Again - you are worth it!! -
help, im gaining, and im feeling down
thesuse2000 replied to rosebud1258's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
food choices are probably more important even than the exercise. If you're gaining that means you're taking in more calories than you're burning. I think it would be good for you to track what you're eating - if only for a week or so, to get a realistic understanding of what your habits are and the impact they have. That may help you figure out what changes to make. Focusing on Protein helps me stay full longer. You may notice the same thing when you track - that you're hungrier sooner after eating a high carb meal and that leads to more calories over the day. It sounds like you have a lot of responsibility and some limited freedoms. That's a lot of challenges! I can understand that it's hard for you to make yourself a priority - but you deserve to do that for yourself. You will be a better grandmother, teacher, wife, etc if you are making yourself stronger, healthier and happier. I think you should decide that you deserve this. You took the step of having the surgery. Now continue that investment in yourself and keep the progress going. Reaching out here was a good first step! -
Yeah they really suck! I've had a couple. Just know that they are normal and inevitable and will pass!

Hi all - I'm glad to have found this thread! I'm in NYC and would love to attend the next event! I'll look out for the next one. -
Hypothyroid, 32 BMI, Years of Stuggling... do you have similar story?
thesuse2000 replied to JaneJaneDoe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have hashimoto's and am doing well so far! Still worried about maintenance, but certainly that will be easier with the sleeve than without! -
Good for you! I'm a firm believer in waiting until you're really ready rather than trying to push yourself into changes before you're really mentally prepared. It helps avoid the inevitable failures that come from less than optimal starts. For example I waited a bit after surgery to start exercising. It just was a big mental hurdle for me and I needed to mentally process the eating changes first. But now I'm so excited about my new exercise regime! I waited until I was ready to think through the best approach, and it's working for me. Good for you for taking care of yourself and planning to work on this when you're able to focus on it. Try a few different things and see what works - you'll find solutions!

Normal! For the first Time Ever!
thesuse2000 replied to SparkleCat's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! My goal is to get to a normal BMI, but it's so hard for me to imagine that actually happening - I've never been in the normal range as an adult (or teen). If I level out before that I'm okay with that too, but would be an amazing thing to experience. Congrats again! Inspiring. -
Just to clarify - this challenge starts next Friday, 11/7 To those asking about rules, how it works, you just need to come post your start weight next Friday along with your goal weight for 1/2/15 (that's an 8-week time period) and then come back each Friday to post your current weight. Susan will add you to the grid when she has a chance and then add in your start and goal weights after you post them on the 7th. The link to the grid is in her original post. She'll "like" your post to indicate that she's added you/your info.

Two Cinder Blocks Down.....
thesuse2000 replied to Bandista's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I love that! I'm down two cinder blocks too - and hoping to go for a third. Congrats! -
Thank you!! This will help me stay on track through the holidays!

I've been wearing 11s for a while, but I think I was really a 10 1/2 wide. Now 10s usually fit. This is beyond feet, but I bought some boots last week - and not wide-calf! That was a total NSV for me.

Anyone take topomax for weightloss
thesuse2000 replied to ladytru84's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wonder if you need a small unfill? That might help you to be able to eat more filling foods like chicken and veggies. Not sure, but it might help. People with too tight bands often end up gaining weight. -
Why is having surgery in Mexico such a taboo subject?
thesuse2000 replied to jjinWA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried asking the OCC if they can recommend a doctor/practice in your area for after care? I had my band surgery at the OCC (great experience) and they connected me with my surgeon in NY who did my follow ups and who ended up doing my band revision and then sleeve revision. I hope they can help. -
I was thinking maybe he misheard you - and thought 211 was your start weight, but the subsequent looking you up and down makes me think that wasn't it. Whatever- you have accomplished SO much! Regardless of what one doctor has to say about it... hope your abcess heals soon!

“I’m Cleaning My Plate Because Children Are Starving in Africa…”and Other Terrible Excuses to Overeat
thesuse2000 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Can you imagine if people in communities suffering from starvation/malnutrition said to their children - Don't eat all of that! There are obese children in America! -
What’s Your Relationship with Caffeine?
thesuse2000 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was never told to avoid coffee/caffeine after surgery, so I haven't changed my habits at all. Still generally drink one cup of coffee in the morning and usually a cup of tea in the afternoon. -
It sounds like you've had a very rough year. Be kind to yourself and acknowledge how far you've come. In the scheme of things 15 pounds isn't that much damage. You're catching it early enough to make some changes and get back on track. I agree with beaglelover - try to make the time to go to a therapist just once a week. I know, sometimes finding the time to research and find one can be a bigger deal. Maybe post here to see if anyone in your area has a recommendation! If things are just super crazy right now, maybe wait till you get through the current hurdle and then make a plan to spend some solid time mapping out a plan to get back on track. Think about what foods you were eating when you were doing well - or what activities you were doing, or what your mindset was. And take time to work through all the changes in your life and the loss of your mom. Might not be a bad idea to think through the implications of working from home - maybe that's not ideal for you. Or maybe you need to map out some ways to make it work while sticking with healthier habits. You've been so successful - you can and will get back on track. Good for you for reaching out here. Take advantage of all the support you can right now.

Lipstick lady and Cynthia have made all the points I would. For me as well the intestinal rerouting just felt like a bigger deal - it's a bigger surgery with a higher risk of surgery complications, but mostly I just worried about longterm problems associated with the malabsorption. I didn't want to have to worry for the rest of my life about getting doctors to prescribe pills specially for me given my anatomy. And of course as we age we tend to take a lot more pills! I liked that the sleeve was just simpler - my stomach is smaller now, but that's it. That said - I think your GERD concerns are important. Other than due to lap band problems I never had GERD, but since my sleeve I do have to take a PPI daily or I feel the acid building in my stomach. I really hope this dissipates over time. I hear that it often does. I wish you the best in your decision. Either option will give you a great opportunity to take back your health.

I love it! I've been experiencing a similar thing. Congrats!
