Hello all: I'm 8 months out from Gastric Sleeve surgery. I have felt fine most of the time. Recently, (the past few weeks) I have felt like my stomach is protruding. I feel more comfortable if I wear something binding around my stomach area. Anyone else have this going on?

I would love to hear from anyone who has tried Ozempic to help weight loss. I had a sleeve done in early March and have only lost 20 pounds. I had an appointment with the physician at the Weight Center where I had my surgery and she suggested Ozempic to augment my surgery. Has anyone had any experience with this? Best to all, Grace

I am 3 weeks out from a gastric sleeve procedure. I'm not sure if I am eating too much. It seems to me that most folks who have the sleeve done are unable to eat as much as I do. I don't strive to eat a lot, but I just happens and I never feel full. I have not felt full - not once. Last night I had a pretty good sized veggie burger and about 10 stalks of asparagus. I would have hoped to be full after about half of that. How does this seem to you folks who have had gastric sleeve? Many thanks Grace

Hi Folks: I had my gastric sleeve on February 26 and have been losing at a snail's pace. I think one of my problems is not enough exercise. I'm not complaining, just stating the facts. I'm in the habit of having protein shake for breakfast for 160 calories. My favorite flavor is Vanilla. The got very boring and was really just like drinking milky water....so I put my thinking cap on and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Instead of using all water, I used mostly water but 4 tablespoons of half-and-half. I added 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. I substitute some of the water with ice cubes, put in all in the blender and whip the heck out of it. It takes a lot to get me excited about anything having to do with dieting, but I really wanted to share this. It's changed my breakfast from Ho-Hum to Yum-Yum! It adds 80 calories to your daily intake, but SO worth it! Best to all, Grace

But do you know how many have had issues?

I learned about these complications from a noted surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital noted as the World's Best Hospital in the New England Journal of Medicine. I was told that all hospitals are "cutting back on the bypass" as much as they can because of these types of complications which are not SO rare. I never would post anything like this if I weren't certain I could trust the source

Dear heaven: Your body shut down and you couldn't go to the bathroom for over a year?? ..... and you are considering surgery again? I had a sleeve done on February 26 and have only lost 22 lbs with strict dieting. I asked my surgeon if she would do a full bypass for me. Her answer was an emphatic NO. She told me that they are doing fewer and fewer full bypasses because of too many complications. She had two patients who are receiving nutrition from a feeding tube. Imagine, they ate compulsively and gained a ton of weight and now cannot eat at all. It seems to me that your body shutting down for over a year would be impetus enough to never have elective surgery again. Just sayin' -Grace

Losing my hair! Anyone else, and what can help??
IAmGrace posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all: I underwent a gastric sleeve on February 26, 2020. I was told that this type of surgery can cause hair loss. .... but we hear what we want to hear. I'm losing my hair at an alarming rate. Anyone else experiencing this? In addition to that problem, my weight loss is at a crawl. Since February 26 I've lost only 16 pounds.... so now I won't just be fat, - I'll be fat and bald. Any input would be much appreciated. Best, Grace -
I wish people would take the time to spell out a word or two rather than NUT and GB, - like that. There are a lot of us new to the website who aren't familiar with all the abbreviations.

Could you tell me please what brand of shakes you use. I'd like to know because if they already taste like milk you're one up on me.

OHHHH Biotin helps your nails? Interesting! -
I had a gastric sleeve on February 26 and recovery was dreadful. I'm pretty stoic when it comes to pain but I suffered miserably from the surgery. My weight loss has been painfully slow. For several days I've been terribly constipated so night before last I took Milk of Magnesia. Well it took effect last evening and I spent about 45 minutes in the bathroom until I felt that I was finished "going". I woke up this morning thinking "oh well, my weight will finally be down a pound or two but I cannot trust it because of the diarrhea." WRONG! I was up a pound. I'm ready to bang my head against a wall. It seems to me that the surgery did me absolutely no good. Here I am 7 weeks out from surgery and have lost a measily 14 pounds and that's will next to starvation. Very frustrated in Massachusetts. Grace

I will note the part of the message above which says "For those of you who think you are too old, I'm 73 and did it." Well, I'm 81 and did it GREAT BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU SANDRA. -

My goodness, I would be absolutely thrilled with a 40 pound loss in that timeframe. My loss, in comparison is 18 pounds in the same timeframe and I am taking in 700-800 calories daily. -

Great big CONGRATULATIONS to you -
If you continue to SNIPE at me, I won't respond.

This has been one of the biggest disappointments of my life. I had a gastric sleeve performed on February 26. I was exactly 200 pounds on the day of my surgery. Today, almost 8 weeks out I am a measily 14.5 pounds down. BIG DEAL. I suffered miserably! Apart from that I counted on the surgery to help me. I am doing all the work and from what I can see, the surgery is doing nothing.

RJAN: You obviously love drama. I didn't snipe as you put it. If you want to discuss this further, please message me in private. I'm sure these people don't want to hear this nonsense. Grace

RJAN: If you followed the sequence of posts here, you will see that I didn't ask a question. Don't call me a b***h before you know what you're talking about.

If I "lashed out". I sincerely apologize. I am a down to earth person who tells it like it is. I don't mean to hurt anyone. I took it that this forum is provided for us to tell the readers what we are going through, good or bad. I appreciate that people offer support and I certainly don't mean to lash out. Grace

I'm sorry that you've spent a lot of time typing your message. Thank you BUT everything you have to say here is obvious.

Hi Folks: I have no doubt that there are lots of you out there who have recently had a gastric sleeve or bypass in the Boston area. My sleeve was done on February 26 at MassGeneral by Denise Gee. I feel very well. Maybe too well. I find that I don't feel "full" as some describe here. Actually I don't remember feeling full since I was a little kid and that was a very long time ago. I'm just about 3 weeks out from surgery and I'm down 10 pounds. Doesn't seem like much but when you average it out it's about 3 pounds a week so I guess that's not bad. I waiting for the "big weight drop" but right not it's not feeling like it's going to happen! Please drop me a note .... I would love to compare notes. Grace

I posted just to let people know that I'm completely disheartened and am on the verge of not trying at all anymore. I was crying out for help. Does that clear up your confusion?

I'm happy to share a typical day's menu: TODAY Breakfast was a protein shake Going from your posts I think you are dwelling too much on scale weight and there isn't sufficient focus on non scale victories that are likely for you...improved blood pressure, lower cholestrol, improved fitness (if you are exercising that is, exercise isn't only for weight loss its great for mental health too), clothes fitting better, improved blood sugar levels if pre diabetic or diabetic, etc etc etc ************************************************************************************************** You think I'm dwelling too much on scale weight. Let me know if you learn of another way to measure your weight loss. Grace

I didn't say I couldn't do it. I said the surgery (sleeve) wasn't helping me at all. Thank you all for your input. Grace
