    Friday Weigh Ins

OOOOH! Count me in, please! My highest (Nov. 2008) was 327. My weight on April 1st (surgery date) was 295. I did not check my weight on April 4th. My weight on April 10th was 285. Thanks for doing this! I don't understand how to create spreadsheets, so I totally appreciate it! Kaner

4/13/09 Go To The Back Of The Class

I was on liquids both 2 weeks pre-op and 2 weeks post-op ... tomorrow's my last liquid day! (It's actually been MUCH easier than I expected.) Now I move on to two weeks of pureed, then two weeks of a soft diet, then onto maintenance. I go see my doc for my two week follow-up on Thursday, but I won't get a fill until 6 weeks post-op either. Isn't it fascinating how different every surgeon approaches this? I'm very sorry to hear of the bomb being dropped at the end of your pre-op info. session. Yikes! Very poorly handled! I will pray that all moves ahead smoothly for you and your surgery. Go get 'em Tiger! :scared2: Kaner
  3. It took some time to get comfortable with the CPAP, but now that I'm used to it I can't sleep without it! Although I certainly hope to be rid of it after the weight loss! Good luck! You might want to communicate with the surgical staff if you don't have all the peices of your CPAP. You may need to stop by a medical supply store to get all the parts.
  4. My doc also waits to fill after several weeks, also because of the swelling factor and just to be certain all is healed before a fill.
  5. It's great to hear how others are doing and the excitement of those of you preparing for surgery in the next few days. I am 5 days post-op and feeling pretty darn good. I'm thrilled to be here and am very excited for the journey ahead. I've told just about everyone about this surgery and I can't even begin to tell you how much support and encouragement I have received. It's really quite remarkable. I made the decision early on to be open about lap-band, party because that is my personality and partly because I wanted to avoid a bunch of whispering. If people are going to talk, I want them to be talking with all the facts and on my side, not making judgements. Anyway, my community can also help keep me accountable for the long haul. I wish everyone the best on your own journey and may all your healthy dreams come true! Kaner
  6. Greetings all! I am very happy to report that my surgery went VERY well on Wednesday! I am a little sore, but am feeling quite wonderful otherwise. This is my first major surgery, and I expected a lot worse. I've been sleeping well, had a shower this morning and am able to move around pretty easily, but slowly. I have some gas pains, but I haven't had shoulder pains from the gas. I am thrilled to be done with surgery and on the road to recovery. Thanks for all the well wishes, prayers and encouragement fellow bunnies! My thoughts and prayers are with alll of the April 2nd & 3rd bandsters, on through the end of the month! Go get 'em bunnies! Love & hugs, Kaner :scared2:

    April 1st and I can't wait

Hi All! I was banded on April 1st and spent one night in the hospital and another night at a friend's house, and I have to say I'm feeling pretty darn good! I'm a little sore, but in general, I'm pretty comfortable and have been sleeping great. It was wonderful to have a shower earlier today! I've been taking my Lortab every four hours faithfully, so I imagine that has helped quite a bit, but I am already pretty mobile. I had a great staff at the hospital! So far so good ... bring on the rest of the new me! :scared2: Kaner
  8. I've been using a plastic coffee mug with a lid for my protein shakes, etc. and it's awesome! It's very discreet and everyone will think you're just drinking coffee or tea! I recommend plastic instead of metal, because I didn't think milk would taste very good from metal cup. Good luck! Go get 'em tiger! Kaner
  9. Just checking in! My surgery is tomorrow at 11:00am! Woo hoo! I am very excited (and a little nervous) and very ready to get going! My two week liquid diet has been much easier than I anticipated. I've had a pretty easy time of it, which is good since I continue for another 2 weeks post-op. I'll be praying for all the fellow bunnies having surgery tomorrow and the rest of the gang as your dates sneak closer and closer! Yay April Bunnies! :seeya: Kaner :seeya:
  10. Yes. I "friended" all the people that are scheduled for surgery on April 1, like me!

  11. Woo hoo for the April 1st bandsters! Can you believe we are just 3 days away? Yikes! I'll be thinking of all of you as we approach the big day on Wednesday. I hope and pray that all goes well for all of our surgeries! Rock on! Kaner
  12. Are you the "lls" scheduled for surgery on April 1st?

  14. My issue is a friend of mine that knows I'm having surgery next week and that I am on the pre-op liquid diet. Yet 4 times this week she has invited me to food events (including Easter Brunch 11 days after surgery) ... and when I respond that I could go, but would not be eating, she finally remembers that I'm on this plan. It's almost amusing, but I'm growing weary. I've been doing the mental work about how most social events revolve around food, and how to make healthy choices and avoid temptations, but it's getting tiresome. I can't even imagine how much more difficult if people don't know what you're going through! I have a favorite plastic travel coffee mug that allows for my liquid meals to be discreet but available. I also make a few protein shakes and carry them in a cooler for work/other activities, so I never get stuck without nourishment. I'm on Day 10 of the pre-op liquid diet and I have to say I'm happily surprised it's been going so well. Regarding the daily weigh ... I just brought up the other day too, and I agree that a weekly average is a good way to go. I had a "gain" on Tuesday after a VERY active Monday (Turbo Jam session + 14,000 steps!) and regular liquid diet ... which was so frustrating! Yet, it dropped down the next day, and now I've lost a couple more since then ... so a weekly-average makes a lot of sense. It's hard not to get so mentally wrapped into the numbers!

    Ready and willing!

Hey Salsa, you mentioned something about a compression garment in one of your posts. I have one friend who used them her first year, but nobody else seems to know what I am talking about ... including my surgeon ... who said he doesn't quite know what the benefit would be. The friend that used them her first year explained that it would help keep the skin tighter to reduce sagging. What can you advise/share? Thanks, Kaner :cursing: P.S. May I ask what kind of surgery you had back in July? I just followed the whole thread and realized that it's been a long-time thread.

    Ready and willing!

Thanks for the "tough love!" I am having surgery in 8 days on April 1st! Yay! I'm on day 7 of the preop liquid diet and the first six days were great! I lost 6 lbs. and yesterday I walked over 13,000 steps and spent 30 minutes working out to a "Turbo Jam" dvd. Yet, this morning I had gained back 3 lbs! :huh2: What the heck?! I'm trying not to freak out, but do you have any advice on the daily weigh-in? I hate to get too sucked into the number on the scale, so I finally went ahead and took some measurements, so I have something else to track progress when the lbs. don't cooperate. I'm excited, inspired and ready for April 1st! I've lost 30 lbs since November by logging what I eat and ramping up my activity level (mostly by walking). I want to continue the momentum, so I was really surprised by how disappointed I was this morning. I mean, seriously ... I'm on a liquid diet of sugar-free, high protein shakes, broth and crystal light! Anyway, if you're not too overwhelmed already by mentor/buddy requests, count me in! Thanks for the inspiration and willingness to reach out to newbies! Kaner
  17. Hi areellady,

Thanks for posting your slide show! It really is an inspiration to me! I am having lap band on April 1st (1 week from tomorrow!) and I currently weigh 302 lbs and am 35 years old! I am so excited to begin a new chapter of my life, and seeing just a glimpse of your journey really gives me a lot of gusto. So ... thanks & keep on cycling!

    Post-Goal Weight Anxiety.

Bring it on ladies! I'm right there with you. I am on day 6 of the liquid diet and 9 days before my surgery on April 1st. I've had these same concerns/fears about sagging skin and wondering how I will function as a new, thin me. I won't be invisible anymore in many ways, even though I have a "great personality" and all that jazz. I'm going to have to break some social habits when it comes to putting myself out there for potential men in my life. But, as you have all mentioned ... I'm ready. I feel it. I wanna get started now! So ... keep up the high spirits and let's enjoy the ride!

    April 1st and I can't wait

I'm scheduled for April 1st in Duluth, MN. I'm on day 5 of the liquid diet ... and so far so good. Bring it on fellow Bunny Banders!

    Anyone from Minnesota?

Hi I'm a newbie to this site too. I'm day 5 into my preop liquid diet. I'm drinking a lot of Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added) with milk and whey protein powder. I also have some sugar-free jello and some sugar-free popsicles to change things up a bit. At least once a day I have some chicken broth (reduced sodium).

    New Bunny Reporting In

Well, I thought I would chime in from the northern-Midwest. I am on day 5 of my pre-op liquid diet. And so far so good. I feel much more energy today than I did the first few days, so I must be adjusting. 10 days until my surgery on April 1st! Yippee! I am anxious, excited and thankful that I was able to schedule my sugery so that I can have 12 days to recover before going back to work. I hear everything from 4 days to 2 weeks for recovery, so I am especially grateful for the time. I wholeheartedly recommend that each of us bunnies takes the time we need to get strong enough to go back to work. I completely understand the issue of difficult bosses, so if you have someone in HR or someone else to speak with (before surgery) that could be useful, in case you discover you need more time. I am thrilled to have found the "Bunny Banders" so quickly! We're all in this together my dear bunny pals!
  22. Thanks for the tutorial! I kept trying to past it in the URL spot and I kept getting an error. Now my ticker is up and running! New Bunny Kaner :crying:
  23. I'm a newbie bunny too! I'm on day 5 of the liquid diet and T minus 1- days to surgery! Add me to April 1st sugery date tracker, please!
  24. Day 5 of liquid diet. 10 days until sugery. Woo hoo! Dr. Lenz will be my surgeon, and I am super excited (and a little nervous)! Does anyone have any suggestion for compression garments? I've heard a little something about waist wrap, generally sent home with you from the hospital, but what about something more full-body? My thought is ... what might help reduce the skin sagging? I'll continue an excercise regime when I am able post-surgery, but I want to be as proactive as possible. Any suggestions? What has worked for you?
