  1. Happy 32nd Birthday mrucker!

  2. Happy 31st Birthday mrucker!

  3. I'm the one who started this thread, but on Friday, I got my approval letter from Humana! WHOO HOO! Cheryl, be sure that you have 6 months, plus your initial month (so 7 months total), and I do think that it has to be all on one form, so it may have to be the same doc. I'd contact the bariatric center in my 4th or 5th month and go for my all day appointment, that way you can get the ball rolling. I'm having my surgery at Georgetown Bariatrics (The lady who handles the state employee insurance there is FABULOUS and knows her stuff - her name is Jennifer). Anyway, I've got to go for cardiatric clearance this week, and and then for my 2nd all day appointment at the center, and schedule my surgery - I'm aiming for mid to late August. However, I think that I have decided on having Gastric Bypass instead of Lapband. After doing my food journal for my 1st appointment, I realized that maybe I was more of a "grazier" than I thought....Good luck to my fellow state employees....
  4. MY QUESTION: Give me the scoop on getting banded in Mexico - what was the cost? Did they provide an option for financing? HELP! I have planned on going to a local center and getting the band in late-summer and thought that my insurance would pay for it. However, I just spoke with a nurse from my PCP and now I'm MAD! My insurance requires that I have 6 month observation, and she just explained that she would not be able to count one of my months in the middle because we discussed a sinus infection instead of my weight - even though the doctor documented my weight progress too! I'd like to get this taken care of by the end of the summer!

    Clear Liquid question

Here's my thought....Everyone complains about the amount of gas pains just after the surgery...and the carbination in Sprite Zero is simply gas, that's what makes it so fizzy...So, in order to minimalize the amount of pre-op gas, I'd stay away from it. Of course, this isn't an answer from a doc, but I think that it will just contribute to pain later. I've even heard people on here complaining of having gas up in their shoulders and neck...I'd stay away from anything questionable this close to surgery. I think that it's the beginning of re-training your body to understand..."My mind is in control of what I eat, not my emotions, not my cravings". Good luck with your surgery this week!

    How does this work?

I'm in the last month of my 6 month supervised thing with my primary care physician (PCP). I've already sent all of the paperwork to my Bariatric people, and I'm awaiting my first consult with them. Here's my question: How does this work from now? :unsure:Do I ask my PCP to give me all of the records from my 6 month visits or does the insurance contact them and get the records from them on their own? He has written me a letter of recomendation, stating that he has supervised me for the 6 months, but do they need the records of that too? If anyone has any experience, please help! BTW, I have HUMANA Insurance.
  7. I'm starting this whole process, and wondering if anyone else who has Humana insurance in Kentucky (like state workers) is willing to give any info about your approval process....how easy was it to get approved? Did you have to have co-morbidities? My BMI is 42....what will they require besides the 6 month observation from my Primary Care Physician?:cursing:
  8. My insurance (Humana) requires that I see my doc every month for 6 months before my surgery. I now understand that this is a pretty typical request. My question: I saw my doc on Jan 31, and then because of his schedule - not mine, I didn't get to see him again until March 17...Is this going to knock me out of being considered? Will i have to say that I started my journey on March 17 instead of Jan? I work for the school here in Kentucky and need to be able to have my surgery during our summer break. Anyone have any experience with this???? HELP!
