Liquid and Food - timing issues
AlwaysCruising replied to AlwaysCruising's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all 🙂 I was familiar with the why’s (and physicians differ in their explanations as well). But it isn’t great to keep getting such varied advice from my own treatment team. Only so I communicate clearly, it was not a lack of knowledge of my part that led to the questions (I’ve been doing pre-surgical evals for more than 20 year), but rather a struggle with the different rules and the various pains are not easily labeled ☹️ I knew someone else must have experienced the same. I wish IQ and knowledge would help all of us in this situation, but some of this defies logic for sure! good luck to all of you! FYI - I’m typing this from my iPad in bed right now, so please excuse typos or iOS aided (mis)spellings! -
Yikes, you may win the covid test prize! I thought the childbirth thing was pretty laughable too! I mean we each perceive things our own way, but there is a only so much variety that fits reality (and the covid test is more an aggravation than a huge problem).

I am sure it happens, but I have never heard of that. Please don’t worry and welcome!

Liquid and Food - timing issues
AlwaysCruising replied to AlwaysCruising's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was just bemoaning how hard it is in reality to find the distinctions among the gas, GERD, and too much or too little in the remaining stomach. I am a good observer, but this feels almost impossible. My surgeon allows the drink until “meals” also, but the dietician over the hospital’s Bariatric service said it would feel better to wait before as well. Which is why it would be nice to be able to tell what each feeling might be, to help decide. Oy! -

It is hard to think about it all constantly. I gave gerd and for now can’t tell if the discomfort at times is due to acid, that horrible surgical gas, or the pouch as too much. I made it to 64g today at least, but there is so much that the information doesn’t and can’t say when it comes to an individual patient. Oh well, we will figure it all out! I wish you lots of good things on your journey! -
I guess that person wasn’t an over achiever 😂 The protocol is for both, but what is really scary to me is the 20% false notice rate. Yikes.

I had it on Monday. It’s kind of like the feeling when water goes up your nose in the pool and it burns a little bit. The stinging a little milder than that, but it’s a little more sustained as they have to do it 10 seconds in each nostril. I haven’t read the responses above, so my next comment isn’t toward anyone particular, but I’ve heard seen so many people online being dramatic about the test and referring to it as horrible (someone was telling people it’s like childbirth - what?! 0. There’s are some horrible medical procedures, and this one is not. For those of you who haven’t had it yet, please don’t worry

I've been going through the pre-surgical process and have everything now done except the release for surgery. As I have scheduled the various appointments required before surgery, I have found myself wondering how much people would be willing pay to just get these done faster with less hassle! It's my mini survey of the day (I guess I have more time on my hands than I thought 😁)]. These are my most recent, so... How much would you pay out of pocket for the psychological assessment if it could be done soon and without you having to drive to get there? How much would you pay to get a doctor's clearance letter for surgery? Happy Mother's Day to you and yours and stay safe!

Gave you two? That was nice! Turns out I don’t need one for this, they were me pills to swallow first thing after. But honestly, they need to get their stories straight on this. Put we love furbabies who don’t like taking pills so I can thinking no matter what this will be handy. Plus, I could run into a problem myself. And yes, my surgery was yesterday. And it is so sweet that you remembered! 🤗 I put a post about it on the June sleeves post, but in short I had no problems, nurses and staff were great, and my room was huge with a view of ATL (part of it at least). The liquids and pills were easy to get down and walking was pretty easy also. In face everything was so easy I jokingly asked if the actually took anything out LOL

MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!
AlwaysCruising replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@LisaDee1 Hi! Thanks for the note 🙂🤗 @Paradisegirl and other surgery twins! I hope that your surgery went well! ♥️💛🧡💜💚💙 I had surgery at 12:30 pm (yesterday, 6/18). Got to a room around 5:30. Was able to get liquids in without a problem. Walked the halls until 11:30pm which would have excused me from the 12pm walk and let me get some sleep but for the next 5 hours someone came in on the hour (fluid bag needed replacing, etc). Despite NO rest last night, everyone at Northside Atlanta was very nice, I had a huge room with a skyline view, and I was released before noon. I have a good bit of pain trying to sit up and sometimes just from brewthing due the gas )had a hysterectomy several years ago and find zero difference in the surgery scars or gas-related pain, oh well! I am home now unpacked and spent having my first protein shake post-surgery. I didn’t use my iPad, but did Use my phone, chapstick, face/body cleansing clots, pillow and throw (so much nicer that the sterilized, hard blankets in hospitals). Also my pull on small stretchy slippers for walking. I found it easy to walk and by my second stroll did 4 circular laps at a time (frequently). -
Good luck! See you on the other side 🤒♥️

I ordered a pill crusher today just in case. Less than 10, better safe than sorry

Well tomorrow the magic happens - good luck to all you other June 18th sleevers!!!

I am allows those too, was just reporting that a reknown Bariatric surgeon had said his patients had a harder time with scrambled eggs that fried/poached - so I mentioned I hoped that was not the case with me (and since I found it very interesting).
-
One of my favorite foods - I had seen a very good surgeon say his patients tended to have trouble with scrambled eggs even weeks into surgery (although fried or poached eggs were easier for them). I guess we will find out soon enough!

Haha my mother did that, I think I would choke!

Hi! I am with the same group (except Dr. Gorjala). My surgery is Thursday (sleeve). So feel free to ask any questions - hopefully I will have a few answers before this is all over. I can help lead you to some good options on the psych (trust me, this I know really, really well 🤓). Anyway, good luck to you and damn the torpedos! 😊
-
Hopefully you will get a straight story from your surgeon! My surgeon didn’t say a word about the meds nor did his staff. Yesterday (surgery is Thursday I picked up a packet at his office and was reading it last night and it said I should check with my physicians about chewable and liquid meds. What? Little late. So I called three times today, the only call back she just left a message saying to call THEM back (didn’t answer the question 😡) and the rest of the day I got the answering service. Great. Hate not being able to really feel confident in my surgeon (he also said no liquids, hospital said chugging Gatorade 2 hours before...). Then I took in my post surgery prescriptions to Walgreens and and guess what? They’re all pills! Whatever, this guy needs to get his stories straight. 🙄

Calling all June18th peeps! I had my official pre-op yesterday and my covid-19 test (I am sue many of you did). For those of you who haven’t had the covid test, please don’t let people scare you. It isn’t close to be as bad as an IV, it is actually a lot like when you get water in your nose in the pool and it burns except the test isn’t that strong a sting and it’s 10 seconds per nostril (the mild sting is about half that time). This is about to get real! 😯
-
That’s a new one (the pounding on the back one)! I had a hellish time with gas after my hysterectomy and so it’s my biggest concern for this surgery. I would do anything to improve it. I had such pain in my back and shoulders the first time around, and walking (standing), the heating pad, and gas-x helped some. Good luck with your recovery. I will follow you on Thursday
-
I know it has been a while, but wondering about your outcome. It was not clear to me whether you were told that (a) your insurance policy covers bariatric but you didn’t meet their medical necessity criteria OR (b) your insurance policy under your employer doesn’t cover bariatric procedures (some do not). “A” is workable while “B”is a dead end unfortunately. As you are in HR I realize you know the difference, I just could not personally figure out which situation you were in from the post. ☹️

Post op crushed medication recs
AlwaysCruising replied to Ilanarose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long did that take until your surgeon allowed you to take them? I had understood from my own research that it would be OK to take the medicine as long as it was smaller than M&M, and all three of mine are very small (compounded version of nature thyroid, spironolactone for pcos, and Pepcid 40 mg). But today at a preop appointment there’s this handout about chewable in liquid meds. WHAT?! Seriously, don’t tell me that on Monday if I’ve got surgery on Thursday. They had gone over my medication several times and not one word was uttered. I don’t tend toward panic, but I don’t like important information sprung on me at the last minute since I’ve got one or two things to do before we get to Thursday 😕 -

Tomorrow is the anesthesia appt (don’t think much is involved other than going over the telephone pre-op info, hope not anyway). I will have a covid test while there (for my Thursday/June 18th surgery). Also have to stop by the surgeon’s office for paperwork (thank goodness it’s next door). I work in healthcare and so Tuesday and Wednesday I work, no choice, since I am leaving people without care for 2 weeks as it is. But that’s fine, sitting around isn’t much fun anyway. So it’s here now :DRUM ROLL; surgery week!

True! There seems to be confusion around this issue. There are only emergency and elective surgeries, that is one way to look at it. There is surgery that is immediately life saving vs. all others. And there are very few of the former. States (as well as countries) have opened those up at different rates according to state covid-19 stats.
