Expected limitations in first few months of recovery?
Lily66 replied to perfektlynrml's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Acknowledging that we’re all different, let me say I’m currently 3 months post op gastric bypass, and would LOVE to be throwing a grand-baby shower TODAY!! Around 6- 8 weeks post op, I admit I was on here asking when energy returns?😥 My brain would have been fine and keen to be planning, but not running around town chasing the shower items..energy was just not there. But today, 3 months? Honey I’d be dancing Happy Shower Dance! Sounds like you’ve made perfect decision in taking second seat to daughter’s BFF, you’ll still be a major help. I hope you look forward to feeling marvelous and filled with Joy at your precious moment grand-baby shower!👶💝 -
I got approval and now I'm overwhelmed!
Lily66 replied to a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Keatsy, I SO remember feeling overwhelmed by ALL of the initial information thrown at me🤦♀️! Knowing that I SO wanted to do this right, how would I BEST manage with the least amount of frustration??? I took a deep breath, said okay, let’s break this down into chunks- got a large looseleaf binder and arranged it by tabs. My surgeon had his tab, testing had a tab, my nutritionist had her tab, my outside research/articles had their tab, food info had its tab, exercise tab, etc. It allowed me to feel “organized” without shuffling through the plethora of what was sure to become loose dog eared papers...it was all right there where it should be=instant calming for an OCD-er. Next, I told myself it was important to take a 30,000 ft. overview and read all of it, in order to fully understand what was expected and ahead of me, but then lazer focus only on what was immediately required of me, master it and DO THAT WELL. Once I felt centered and focussed on the immediate, I would glance and keep an eye on the next phase coming up so I would be able to transition easily. It has really worked like a charm. Lastly, I would suggest follow the instructions and guidelines from your surgeon before and despite anything to the contrary. If your research yields an alternative that sounds better for you, run it by him/her. It’s a positive sign, this being overwhelmed by all of the information...an indicator that you’re Serious About Succeeding....and YOU WILL💖! -
MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!

Nor have I been blessed with the “no desire to eat” challenge. BUT, it’s getting closer to that now at 3 months out. I wonder if the early on desire/memory of food/hunger is actually just a ‘muscle memory’ kinda thing...and by 3 months the body/mind connection is adapting to the new world we’ve placed before it, sans cravings and the foods that stimulated those cravings.🤔 Hmm, dunno, but there’s something going on.🌟 And I like it! -
THE BEST! ...and pic of today’s lunch😋. This was the first and really only meat my body can ‘happily’ tolerate. It’s moist, not fibrous nor stringy at all. It allows you to easily chew to applesauce consistency. I was probably ready for it around week 4-5. I’m sure it could be very easily puréed when you reach that point.

Hi Fluffy...Just reviewing some older posts and loved this. Did you create this spread sheet? Or is it an App? I love the breakout on it. Thanks and continued Success to you!!

SO proud of you, MaybeMeow! You’re coming right along. You and I share a similar philosophy: “I am determined to not let MY CHOICE to do this surgery make them feel guilty for indulging.”. I’m right there with you! Hubs is 6ft and BMI of 21, can and does eat whatever he wants. Why should he suffer my journey? If tables were turned I sure wouldn’t want him placing that control on me. At first, post op there were tough moments, I was green eyed monster over his Chilli’s Steak quesadilla carryout, or his home made key lime pie in fridge, but each time I resisted and let myself feel HAPPY for him, I grew stronger in my resolve and strength—and HE grew stronger in his love and respect for me. Food was NOT scaring nor tempting me ANY LONGER. I have since then taken one bite of his ‘this or that’ to find I no longer have a taste for it and THAT WAS WONDERFULLY LIBERATING! Keep on Keepin’ on Strong Woman!💃💪💝 -
WOW! That would be SO Wonderful....will look into this and Thanks!

Looks Delish!! ...but Father’s Day is 6/21 this year!😍 -
Ugh...life without diclofenec has been a let down, for sure. I’ve spent the past few hours trying to find more recent study hoping there was something for us post RNY, ...to not much avail. I had a (failed) microdiscectomy, laminectomy, foraminotomy at L5/S1 fourteen months ago as well as osteoarthritis in my back. Losing 35+ pounds has definitely helped ease some of the pain, but has certainly not eliminated it. My PCP would prescribe anything that is safe...short of I want no opioids. If anyone has an idea I am SO open. I found a few articles saying an occasional diclofenec with Prilosec followed by 2 weeks of abstinence is usually well tolerated in otherwise healthy post RNY-ers. But again, those were a very few opinions from pain management sites.

And I’ve been right there with y’all...3 month stall and 3 pound gain😰. As rjan said, we expected something like this but still not fun. I’m finally moving again and more determined than EVER. It served a purpose though, it made me look long and hard at what I was doing that may have caused it. I tightened up a few things, gave up cheese and most dairy and got moving more. Continued best wishes everyone!

I’m 3 months out and still feel most comfortable with soft foods and steamed soft vegetables. Liquids were easy in the beginning but now I cannot drink fast at all, without discomfort. Four weeks ago surgeon released me to any foods that I can tolerate, but my pouch doesn’t even want to think about beef, pork, chicken, etc. EVEN if I promised pouch I would chew well, she’s not havin’ it just yet🤷♀️.

Sophie7713 your bean soup looks delicious, nutritious and sustaining😋just like dear mom used to make. I’ve added it to my “list to make”, thank you! I, too, have wondered about how to eat/take liquid soup with “chewables” in it.🤔 -
Best to both of you, Cia2020 and Ann777! I hope my post yesterday didn’t leave you feeling down—-I was in a pretty “real” mood and told it like it is from my experience, thus far. Plus Cia2020 saying she was pissed off put me in touch with my own pissed off that hell yea, it’s work!!!😤😅!! Though our WLS is a tool, and at least makes losing possible (which is something I haven’t been successful at prior) it is still hard work in being diligent and living daily life and exercising on 600-800 calories a day. That in itself is heroic! BUT, the WLS has been a HUGE GIFT, and FANTASTIC and COURAGEOUS DECISION! One thing I’m noticing is that this journey has been kind of like giving birth, sometimes painful and difficult but once you’re through it, your memory of the pain fades and you only remember the JOY and AMAZEMENT. For example, right now if someone asked me how pre-op diet was, or the early weeks of post op diet, I would say “Oh, it wasn’t bad at all”, and mean it. Yet when I was in the moment, it was not easy every day. By any means! Some days were extra challenging—but so was the bloat, disgust, hopeless futility of waking up in a carb-coma-like-feeling after having stuffed myself back in the day.😝 Or standing in my closet searching for something that fit and didn’t reflect the truth of the “body form I had attained”. This is worth it! and thankfully we have one another to vent to, to help pull us through so we actually DO get to the end of the rainbow.🌈 Hang in! It will be more fun when we reach maintenance level!

I’m about 3 months out and rather agree with you and get that feeling, too. You’ve described it perfectly. It’s a challenge and not sure ‘what’ we can do except try to determine foods and liquids that agree with and sustain us, then “budget” them out through the day in order to keep us satisfied. Popsicles no longer do it for me, either. I’m eating scrambled eggs (almost every night for dinner) 1/2 cup watermelon, or 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, or 2-3oz Kirkland sliced turkey breast, 2-3oz tofu, 1/2 cup home made 3 bean salad, microwave frozen vegetables, once in awhile tsp. of peanut butter, V-8, a Premier Protein Cafe Latte shake each morning as breakfast, grilled fish, tuna salad, ...pretty much these are the foods I can tolerate. 🤷♀️ I plan my protein and fluids, then fill in my hunger with the lower calorie things I can have. We chew and chew and chew, and then the food passes through rather quickly. It’s WORK some days, especially if I’m not busy—coming out the other side will be worth it, but IT IS WORK. I’m sorry I can’t tell you the coming weeks will be a breeze, but this has been my experience. Maybe others can share a few of their strategies?💝

Thank YOU Summerset! Will be making it this weekend—it’s everything I love and perfect for the stage I’m at right now. Reminds me of my pre-WLS “old go to”, Tofu Red Curry...had to give it up due to rice, sweetener, etc. It’s one dish I have mourned, but this will bring me back💝. Thanks again! -

Had bariatric surgery back in Oct 2018 and still feel week
Lily66 replied to fernandotrejo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lots of good advice/possibilities above, Fernandotrejo. To that I will only add a prayer that solutions are discovered for you soon. Years ago I went through a post divorce depression for nearly a year, and recall how exhausted I was almost all the time and especially some days were worse. Ugh, I can still recall it deep in my bones now and it was tough. It was as you describe, walking, I felt my legs could give out beneath me, and I was normal weight back then. Don’t give up! You’ve obviously worked VERY hard coming through WLS and REACHING GOAL🏆! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Glad you found us and posted here, as no doubt others may be experiencing what you are and will benefit from the discussion. Keep us posted as you check out these possibilities, okay? Hopefully, one tweak of something will color your world bright again, and that is worth seeking.🌟 -

I had a DEXA last week, not the bone one, the fat/muscle one. $100, no Dr. order needed. It is SO scientific gobbly di **** measurements with little language for common woman.🧐 I can’t make heads nor tails of it but guess I’m glad to have done it to compare with doing it again, final outcome. Could you understand yours, Hop_Scotch? I have bachelor and master’s degrees but not in a science area.😟 Had hoped it would be more layman friendly.
