  1. Had 6 month post op appt. this morning, reassured that mild nausea is common for some of us. Suggested going no more than 2 hours without eating at least something, and encouraged me to keep a food diary to correlate anything I may have eaten prior to the nausea feeling. Use Pepcid and Zofran PRN, call them if nausea increases or becomes bothersome.
  2. I’m 6 months out and still get nausea on occasion for whatever reason. This is actually on my list to discuss today at my 6 month post op appt., though I don’t believe it’s anything to be alarmed over. Mine is mild enough that I almost welcome the feeling vs hunger. It’s a low level nausea and feels as though it’s a stomach secretion or mild acid. They’ll likely advise to resume Pepcid, at least when this comes on.
  3. Sending a big virtual hug your way, SAS11, and I’m glad you stayed and expressed your concern. As Alex posted yesterday, what we say online may not always come across as we intended, so we need to be cautious, tread lightly and re-read before posting. I have found most on this board to be loving, giving, supportive and generous. Once in awhile someone will appear sharp tongued and I dismiss it, that perhaps they were in a bad mood that day or too rushed to refine their words. Unfortunately, we can all have days like that and again, unintended. As for an outright nasty someone, as Alex stated so well, do not engage nor get snared in. I would suggest ignoring it once, maybe twice, if it appears to continue discuss it with the administrator, not here. You don’t deserve to take that on, and hopefully you will never encounter it. Finally, DON’T GIVE AWAY YOUR POWER TO ANYONE to derail you. Not here, not anywhere. YOU OWN YOUR POWER, just smile and move on from anything not in support of your best interest, for it’s about them, not about you.💖
  4. Welcome Neller! Congratulations on your decision to be as healthy as you possibly can, and happy you have a supportive doctor. I’m 66 and have zero regrets in having this. Though I worked at it (aerobics, eating pretty well, etc.,) my weight was always in the normal range until 50’s, then hysterectomy, HRT, slowed metabolism, stresses of life, ya di ya da there I went. Many, many on this board are 60’s, 70’s, even recall one over 80. As long as you have a very good medical team and follow their instructions, I believe you will be pleased as punch!😀 Glad that you found this site, it will help you to learn and keep motivation high.

Diet Changes Do Make a Difference

At my June bloodwork (3 month post op appt) my A1c was 5.6 which was higher than it’s ever been. I had been enjoying watermelon as it soothed my internals greatly since surgery and gave me a bit more energy. Nut suggested I change to lower glycemic fruits such as berries, etc. My A1c on bloodwork last week has me back at 5.2. Maybe try the lower glycemic fruit & veggies.🤞

    Can anyone eat carbs?

Love hearing this, Cheeseburgh. My DNA sounds much as yours, maybe because I was born in Illinois, lol. Realizing we are all different, my stats were much the same as yours pre-op, I’m very much limiting carbs during this WL phase, but if I can enjoy 1350-1500 in maintenance I will be a happy camper with a balanced menu. Congratulations on your stellar success! and thank you for sharing your journey!
  7. Sophie7713, Looks absolutely FANTASTIC!! The perfect amount of char on the peppers...did you grill this? And yes, I believe filet mignon will be easier to digest here, too. After years of gas grilling, hubby and I decided to go back to the Weber Kettle Charcoal Grill for the flavor that we love. Delivered last week, haven’t used it yet, but this looks like a great dish to try😋. Thanks for idea!💖

    Does hunger come back?

I think you’ve hit it there...stress, work, mood. The change around month 5 feels more about insides being less swollen, better healed, less nausea, ability to tolerate more foods, life “feels more back to normal”. The real work begins.

    Does hunger come back?

I’ve noticed a definite increase in appetite since around month 5, requiring much greater diligence and am sure this becomes even more challenging over time.😖Thanks for posting Dr. Weiner reminders and suggestions!
  10. Hi MaybeMeow😀! Glad to see you’re doing so well! My Nut as well as PA both echoed the 800-1,000 cal. during months 3-6 for energy, metabolism, etc. That’s pretty well where I’ve stayed. Though the loss seems slow, it’s steady and does start adding up. BUT, I must say, it has not helped with the hair loss😩. I thought I was finished shedding but just now in the shower??? Aye Carrumba!! Hopefully it will slow sooooon and hope you have a better experience! But hey, still worth it by a long shot! Keep up the great work!💖

Wow! The comparison REALLY accentuates the before and after difference! You GO GIRL!! Are your posted stats current? Your weight loss looks like more than 37 lbs. for sure!.🏆I asked surgeon what his goal is for me, he only replied “to help you get to a healthy weight where you feel your best”. Sure wish he would have given at least a ballpark. I have 6 month follow up appt. next week, will press again at least for a range. Again, Congrats Nermada!!

    Having issues since last night

Absolutely! He decided to CT scan appendix area because I winced and pushed his hand away when he was pressing on that area. My white blood count was also through the roof so they knew something more than just the migraine going on. I was shocked and clueless when all said and done though, for to me? it was just another migraine from hell🤷‍♀️. I had even driven myself to the hospital, nearly delirious. Seat belt pressing on that highly inflamed appendix area could have been devastating. No more taking chances!!!!

👍I’ll continue monitoring that trends are in the right direction, as you say, and will decide “where healthy without feeling deprived” is. I’ve had my doubts that these scales are 100% accurate, yet they are general indicators and added intel to a basic BMI chart, I suppose. At age 66, good health, much more so than aesthetics, is my primary goal. For to my mind, HEALTHY IS beautiful.🌟

    Having issues since last night

So happy to hear things have resolved themselves! When these migraine’s are horrible ones they affect, and pain, our entire bodies and we’re used to dealing with that. Five years ago I had a migraine from hell...Imitrex, nothing touched it, 24 hours later, entire body aching, I finally headed to ER. Long story short, CT scan showed “lots of activity around my appendix”. Surgeon said he doubted appendix, because my age, over 60, AND that appendix pain was some of the worst known to man, and yet all I complained about was the “excruciating migraine that was killing me.” He said I’m going in to check this appendix because of CT scan, and they will come out one way or another because I’m in there and not going back in again. I agreed. Turns out, thinking it was just migraine hurting my entire body, I waited too long to go to ER, my appendix had turned gangrene and were about to burst! Surgeon later explained that my extreme tolerance to pain has been built over a lifetime of dealing with these whole body migraine’s, but in the future I cannot wait that long before heading to ER. I was very, very fortunate that I went just in time, and HOPE it will never happen again, to any of us!💝 Best wishes and take extra good care of yourself!

    Body Fat

Noticed my Renpho metric post above was from a few weeks ago. Took again this morning below. I’ve always been athletic with good muscle tone so am surprised-but not totally. I loved his video (though he’s SO good looking and charming, that it was challenging to totally concentrate😅). My dilemna is what do I pay attention to and what weight goal do I focus on? I still work out with resistance bands, light weights, floor work a few hours a week, and walk 2 miles most mornings. I’m 66 but feel 35😃, especially after WLS and carrying 50 fewer pounds around!! My surgeon and cardiologist simply focus on BMI. Since surgery I’ve gone off BP and cholesterol meds because numbers are great. I trust your video Doc Reasoning more than simple BMI. Will keep going until?....

    The Struggle is Real

My heart goes out to you, mysuccess, for we all know what that pull and feeling is like. You’ve come so far on this journey to health...I would feel no shame and call my surgeon’s office or nutritionist, whichever you feel more connected to and that has a compassionate understanding. You deserve help through this and that’s what they should be there for. You will eventually have to discuss this with them during the periodic progress check ups, best they can help you through this now with a local recommendation. Surely they have seen this and will know how to best guide you. Hugs and more hugs, please keep us posted.

    Body Fat

My Renpho shows I’m at 24.9% body fat but I’m still 29 lbs from goal weight🤷‍♀️.

Lanie992, sending you all positive thoughts and energy and hope you’ll keep us posted. I, too, have been on Imitrex and Promethazine, PRN, since Imitrex came out early 90’s from lifelong inherited migraines. Anyone who knows this type of intense pain has usually developed a pretty substantial tolerance to pain, so when you describe the additional excruciating pain you’re having, trust your instinct to head to ER. It will be worth it for you to know what’s going on. Be gentle with yourself.
  24. I would praise him for being “so tuned in to the marriage”! I’d then explain it takes 2 to make it work and since he IS so tuned in, he certainly wouldn’t let anything negatively affect your relationship. In other words, step up to the plate Mr Sweet Cheeks and stop depending upon my understanding for areas of life and our relationship that you KNOW you can do something about, too! What a Wonderful time to make our relationship the BEST it can be!
