    2 weeks post op and...

IMHO, it's just one of those days. But, how are you getting to actually eat things already two-weeks post op. I'll be two weeks post op on Friday and can start "mushies". I haven't chewed anything!

    Protein Shakes

Try this...it is delicious and I bought the Muscle Milk (powder) right in the grocery store. Protein shake 1 cup of light silk soy milk, vanilla flavored 1 tlbs Peanut Butter 1 scoop of Muscle Milk handful of ice cubes Mix up well in the blender and enjoy! It is so yummy. Calories: 240 Fat: 19 g Protein: 26 g Carbs: 21.5 g Fiber: 3 g
  3. oh yes, it's gas. You've got to MOVE. Move, move, move. It is really awful, I know. I would even have trouble breathing which would cause me to panic. Ugh. Seriously, you've got to move. And, don't even waste your money on GasX...it does nothing. Good luck...with me, the gas lasted about one week. (actually, 5 days, because I didn't get it right away).
  4. Let me add this tasty treat I made tonight...

Any know of a GOOD light mayo?

I vote for Hellmans Light also. I've used it for years! The difference in calories is amazing from the regular stuff.

    What DON'T they tell you?

I don't give a rats a$$ what people say to me or think about me. If I were a drug addict and they expressed their opinion, that would be acceptable. Trouble is, I'm a food addict and the difference is that we need food to live. We don't need illegal drugs to live. I'm going to be going to a family reunion in early August and I know I'm going to be faced with questions about why I'm not chowing down on cookies, potato salad, sausage hoagies and downing a brew or 5. But, I'm ready for it. My health is my priority and I am the only person who can control it. The same people who talk smack are the same ones who will stand over your casket after you've suffered a fatal stroke and say, "I always thought she was too heavy". pff. Stay strong and good luck!
  8. I was surprised to hear your surgeons orders. I was banded on 6/27 and had to have water, broth, tea, jello, you know, clear liquids. The 2nd week I could have full liuids, like Campbells Soup at Hand, skim milk, soy milk, applesauce, protein powders added, other soups (put through the blender first)...then next week I start mushies. Based on all that I've read on these forums, your situation does appear different.
  9. who was your doctor? How are you doing? Have the gas pains gone yet? Those were the worse! But, getting much better.

  10. I am really enjoying cooking for my family. I am cooking the way I want to eat when I get to that point. For lunch, I made my son and husband a nice green salad with grilled chicken on top. For dinner I made chicken and salmon. I had fresh pineapple and watermelon, and raw fresh carrots and celery sticks and some white rice. There were biscuits too, but I didn't put all of them on the table. I feel like I own a restaurant and I'm serving them reasonable sized portions. It's nice to have the next 3-4 weeks to re-learn how to choose, cook and how to serve healthy choices. Now, when I'm salivating over the meal, I'll re-read this post to remind myself of the goal...
  11. Entering the 2nd week. Struggling a little with hunger. Ideas for 2nd week liquids would be so welcome. As I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong), I can have skim milk. Can I have these things: V-8 juice, Yogurt smoothies (store bought), the smoothies from the recipes on this site, campbells Soup at hand, other Soups put through a blender (?), milkshakes (made with skim milk and sugar free ice cream). Any ideas would be so appreciated. NSV - Put on a pair of pants yesterday that fit me before surgery...but yesterday, they were just too big! I had to keep hiking them up! Happy July 4th Everyone
  12. Flavored Water, regular water, tea (hot), tea (cold), water with KO Protein mix, vegetble broth, chicken broth, Diet Sun Drop, Jello, popsicles. I don't know how I'm going to get through the next two days. I am looking forward to the 2nd week where I can add some milk, some Protein powder to the milk. My doctors orders are clear liuids for one week. Help, how can I get through the next two days?! Also, isn't it funny...I never realized how many food commercials there are on TV until I was banded. Thank God for the DVR and I can fast forward through them.
  13. I've told very very few people I had the surgery done, actually those that I told knew about it before I had it. But, there are so many I have not told; my parents, my boss, my brothers, my husbands family, etc. Am I being ridiculous? I just don't want to deal with all the unwanted opinions. But I realize that eventually, with the weight loss, people probably will figure it out...how have you handled it?

    STRAWS - good vs. evil?

straws cause gas. Not worth it. I hadn't heard about the ice though...
  15. I just left Barnes and Noble sure that I would find some great books regarding "Life After Bariatric Surgery"...no. Nothing. I'm looking for some resources on ideas for eating, especially in the 2-6 weeks period. During the time I need to eat "mushies" I am traveling and I really need to know what to pack for food. I won't be hitting any restaurants at all. Plus, I want a good variety because the temptation at the resort where I am going (business trip) will be tough to handle! Is there a web-site with this information? Maybe something that could even be printed out?

    Severe shoulder pain

I didn't have it in my shoulder, but on my left side under my ribs and it was horrible! I took it as long as I could today and finally took some liquid hydrocodone. It worked.

5 days post op.. and lots of pain

yeah, so the pain meds worked. But, I can't rely on that stuff everyday! But for right now, I'm enjoying being pain free! I think the next time, I will try my liquid tylenol and not the controlled substance. LOL.

    Considering Lap-Band

you will probably have to go to an informtional seminar first. I'm sure it will be easy to find one. Lapband.com probably can help. If you are on medication for hypertension, high cholesterol or diabetes, that is a help with the insurance company. I didn't "quite" have a high enough BMI, but I am on medication. Especially, read all that you can in these forums. They are SO helpful. So personal, so honest and we are all real people who have been in your shoes... I wish you all the best.
  19. Best wishes to you. My advice, don't go back to work too soon. Be sure you have a good variety of liquids in the house. Don't plan on getting on the laptop tomorrow night if you get to come home...you'll definately need sleep. Be sure to have a nice cushy pillow in your bed to prop under your belly. Get some great magazines and take care of YOU. Look forward to hearing from you in the POST-op forum. Good luck.
  20. I look forward to it NOT being an effort to roll over in bed. * I look forward to not having a rash in between my thighs when trying to wear a skirt or dress. * I look forward to having an XL t-shirt be BIG. * I look forward to being able to take a shower with my husband. * I look forward to wearing heals, not because they are uncomfortble, but because I will not be afraid to teeter over. * Looking forward to not buying underwear made with lycra. * Looking forward to it NOT being an effort to get out of a little car. * Looking forward to going to the buffet and not having other people be turned off. * I'm looking forward to being off blood pressure medication. * I'm looking forward to playing a game of kick-ball and actually running the bases. * I'm looking forward to being healthy. * I look forward to dancing on a dance floor and not just bopping in my chair. We'll all get there! Yeah!

5 days post op.. and lots of pain

I am having these pains today and they are killing me! The day after my surgery wasn't this bad. I held out for hours, but I just took some of my hydrocodone...trouble is, I don't see how that will work if it is indeed GAS. Worse than that, I called my doctor TWICE in two hours and he still has not called me. I am so mad. Let's try to hang in there. ~sigh~

    Dr. Enochs in Raleigh

He just performed my surgery last Friday. He's a sweetheart. He takes his time with you, answers any question and is compassionate. His staff is wonderful too. My husband had never met him until the day I had surgery and he was impressed too. Good luck. I look forward to hearing from you as to how it's going. FYI - After my case was submitted to insurance, I heard from the doctors office less than a week later with a date!
  24. I feel pressure in my chest and abdomen area, near my sternum. I have not had a BM since last Thursday (6/26). Even if I get up and walk, it doesn't go away...but it does eventually go away. So, is this gas? I did buy the GasX strips lastnight, but don't want to take them for nothing... You guys are all so helpful. This website has become my best support since the surgery. :smile2:
