The sleeve gastrectomy is known to increase the intra-abdominal pressure or the natural pressure in the stomach. I also had this feeling, to think about it, I still do to one degree or another. Sometimes as you lose weight the layer of fat between the stomach and the diaphragm gets smaller and can make the reflux more likely, due to what in effect is a bigger opening in diaphragm due to less fat being there. My doctor told me to stay on the pantoprazole for good. I also read that not lying down after eating (3 hrs) is preferable. Cheers.

I would stick with the program you were given. After time the liquid fast becomes easier to deal with, however, once you eat the hunger can become harder to manage once again. The last 9 days of my liquid diet were far easier than the first. Also, this is just the start of having to manage cravings, you will have to do that post-op and beyond also to be successful.

10 days post-op: Need tips for getting rid of bloating and gassy feeling
copado replied to kossde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there. Four of five major surgeries I have had have been laparoscopic with gas. The two things I have found to help with the gas are: walking and anything that will get the bowels moving. For the WLS I was sent home with good instructions for getting the bowels moving, such as walking, stool softeners, mild laxatives. Those helped. Some I needed to be up to a certain level of water consumption before I could employ, so I would check with the discharge instructions or your surgical service. Hope that helps. P.S. walking seemed to be the most helpful. -
Don’t worry. Day 4 I had a small lapse also. I still lost 22 pounds in the fast phase irregardless. After the surgery I asked the surgeon if my once fatty liver was a suitable size for surgery, if I had done a good job on the pre-op, he just said! “It was perfect”. I had re-purposed after that event to not do it again though and I did not.

I have no idea if they ever do this, or if it has ever been done, but two surgeries. The first for the GERD and then the sleeve. Probably only your surgeon would know. best of luck. -
Gastric Band Revision To Sleeve

Hi. You could also talk to your doctor about the use of a Proton Pump Inhibitor such as Pantoprozole (Protonix) which eliminates or reduces the heartburn by decreasing acid production. If it were me, I would also ask for an endoscopy to see if there is a hiatus hernia where the esophagus pases through the diaphragm. If you have that it could be more complicated. Also if you lose weight the fat between the stomach and diaphragm can get smaller and effectively make it easier for the acid to reflux. I would discuss that also. Best of luck. -
Yep, same thing exactly happened to me, went in at 290 after losing 22 on the pre-op diet. Discharged at 297. I had a real hard time getting water in to start with at home, so once I started peeing a lot I knew it was the edema and swelling releasing the IV fluids that had accumulated.

Hi. I am in the second week post surgery. I don’t miss the food for the most part, but the though of never being able to have a big drink of water is tearing at me. I loved water more than anything and in the past I would come in the house and fill up a 750 ml cup of iced cold water and drink two of them and feel like a million dollars. I understand I may not get there, but does this half cup an hour limit run forever? Thank you. Peace.

Thank you guys for responding! I was thinking about the broth and popsicles. Went out yesterday and bought the popsicle moulds and some Chrystal Light lime. Cleaning out the fridge today! Tuesday start a two week fast. Thanks! -
Hi. Having a sleeve in a couple of weeks. I have read a lot in the past year. I live alone and am interested if you can help me out with any thoughts you have on your favourite post surgery foods that would be good. Also your thoughts on when you can start a fairly vigorous walking regime. Thanks All.

I am from Canada, it is actually against the law here to charge a patient for any treatment or surgery that is covered under our publicly funded system. The cost for the surgery and hospital stay is 100% covered by our public system. That being said, I have not been approved for it yet.
