I have finally been diagnosed with Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR)/Silent Reflux with my ENT Specialist about 3 weeks ago after suffering from a lump in my throat and tightness in throat which results in somewhat difficulty breathing. I have been having these symptoms for at least the past 4 months. I had visited at least 6-7 medical professionals (none of whom knew why I was suffering from these issues) before finally being diagnosed with Silent Reflux (difficult to diagnose). It is different to GERD (normal reflux) in that I do not have the classical reflux symptoms of heart burn, indigestion etc. I even had a gastroscopy (camera down my esophagus) to confirm it is not GERD. Has anyone ever developed Silent Reflux (LPR) or had any symptoms of a lump in your throat or somewhat difficulty breathing? It is best diagnosed by an ENT wherein they place a camera through your sinuses and it goes right to where your voice box is. I had the gastric bypass in 2019 (I initially had the gastric sleeve in 2013, but it was converted to Gastric Bypass in 2019). I am now on Somac (PPIs) twice daily for a minimum of 4 months in order to stop any stomach acid entering my throat and airways. It is a lengthy process to treat silent reflux. I would appreciate if anyone whom has had similar symptons and/or being diagnosed with silent reflux could let me know. Thanks everyone.

Anyone here have GERD or LPR (Silent Reflux) after surgery?

Hi All, Does anyone here have GERD and/or LPR (Silent Reflux) after gastric bypass surgery? If so, can you please advise: 1. How long ago you had the gastric bypass surgery (and if you had revision from sleeve to bypass)? 2. When your symptoms of GERD and/or LPR started? 3. If you have managed to treat it? I have LPR and am struggling. So other people's experiences would be appreciated. Thanks all. -
Hi Everyone, Has anyone had a barium swallow test done after gastric bypass surgery to check if their pouch has stretched or for any other reason? I had a barium swallow done as I suffer from LPR (silent reflux) where I aspirate non-acidic reflux into my throat and lungs. The results show that my Jejunum (small intestine) has stretched to the same size as my pouch. Would love to hear from anyone that has had a barium swallow which has shown that not only has their pouch stretched, but the jenumum (small intestine) has stretched also after the join between the stomach pouch and jejunum. I have attached a photo from my barium swallow scan for your reference which shows that after the narrow join where the arrows are, my jejunum has stretched.

Just wondering if anyone else has this condition. My Condition still persists despite being on Somac (PPI) x 2 daily for many months now and trying all the tips such as skipping acidic drinks and foods, no food 2 hours before bed, keeping bed raised. Any one that has LPR or Silent Reflux post gastric bypass, I would love to hear from you! -
Anyone develop Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR or Silent Reflux) after Gastric Bypass?

Thank you for your reply. How long has it been since you had the gastric bypass and you were diagnosed with Silent Reflux? My ENT said it takes about 3 to 4 months for symptoms to be treated. Do you have somewhat difficulty breathing at times? -
Rapid weight gain following Gastric Bypass 10 months ago
yesno789 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all, I am a 30 year old male. I previously had a gastric sleeve surgery 5 years agobut due to the massive regain of weight, I had a revision gastric bypass in February 2019. Anyways, since my lowest recorded weight and initial weight loss success in June 2019, I have since gained 7kg to date and feel like I gaining 1-2kg a week. Specifically, I have regained 6 kg since early Dec 2019 to date. Over the past 3 weeks, I have regained at least a 1kg a week. I feel like I can eat just as much, if not more, then my first gastric sleeve surgery 5 years ago. I know that the bypass is a tool only, but I am shocked in the amount I can eat and want to eat. I can easily eat a plate of pasta or a whole wrap with chips from KFC (I know I should be eating healthy and not these type of foods, but it is easier said than done!). On a normal day, I drink at least 5 cans of sugar free coke zero and at least a box of paddlepop icecream. I'm super addicted to sweet and sugary food and I know this is the issue. My issue is I pretty much have to eat sweet sugary food. Luckily and thankfully, I am not diabetic (not that I know of anyways!) I've read stories of people who were much bigger than me who initially had the surgery who now eat a few bites and get full and they don't really ever feel like icecream and other sugary food. Yet I am always hungry and even after I eat food, I still crave sugary food. My old workmate who had the gastric sleeve never used to eat! They were never hungry or craved anything, yet I am completely the opposite. Anyways, my question is can anyone on here following their gastric bypass surgery still eat a plate of food or even close to? I just can't comprehend how following 2 surgeries without any complications (thankfully ) I still am able to eat so much food. Look forward to hearing from anyone. -
