I haven’t had my bypass yet, but I know the liquid stage after can be rough. Just add protein powder or drink protein shakes as much as you can. It’ll help with the hunger feeling. I bought unflavored protein powder to add to soups/broth to help. Are you getting enough protein in?

Week of 11/9/2020 surgeries
Luna805 replied to Horseshowmom's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi, I’m 11/18 for bypass. I’d like to check in with people as well. I’m looking forward to getting it over with and healing 😁 -
The great thing is, they both work! Pick which one is right for you. That was just my thought process on why I switched. But I have friends who say sleeve was the best decision they’ve ever made. Really it’s a win/win on whichever you and your doctor decide. Friday is coming up soon, good luck to you! Let us know how it goes 🎉

Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?
Luna805 replied to Lanie Hardy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Bypass scheduled Nov 18th! I prepaid the hospital, picked up some vitamins and protein powder and feel pretty prepared. The only thing that I’m nervous about is pain. My hospital only does Tylenol with coding and that feels crazy to me 🙁 -
Conversion rate from Sleeve to Bypass is a lot higher then I expected. I found people a few years out having trouble with acid with the sleeve. After researching, bypass is still the only one considered the gold standard for weight loss. I liked the longevity of information on bypass and the lower weight that can be reached. This is just my findings and when I brought it up to my surgeon she agreed with my switch plan. But sleeve people are still having great results, there’s no wrong surgery. Just bypass felt better for me after learning more about sleeve conversion to bypass.

I see a lot more people getting the sleeve. I’m also getting bypass on November 18th. Good luck to you! I’ll be curious and checking in! I only wanted the sleeve starting in January this year. But after Covid, it was pushed way back and I had more time to research. The amount of conversion to bypass from sleeve was something I learned during the wait time. So happy I changed my mind :)

Surgery twins! 11/18 Bypass for me. Good luck! It’s exciting to have other people on the same day. Mine is first thing in the morning. Have to be there at 5:30am, surgery at 7:30am.

I’m November 18th also. Bypass. Good luck to you!

November 18th! Bypass

Thanks for the advice! I actually really found all the details helpful. I’m a very detail oriented person and love to make plans and see them in progress. I have the journals and your advice just helped reinforce what I was planning on doing. I’ve been successful in life, I’ve always met my goals and the one thing that has held me back is over eating. I’ve had 10 months to get prepared for this and I’ve noticed a big shift in my brain on what I’m expecting out of this. Being positive, happy, accountable for why I’m here and realistic is what I’m working on. Ready for all the changes and not a temporary get skinny fix this time around. Feeling as prepared as I can :)

Today I got the great news I’m approved & set a surgery date of November 18th! I could of gotten sooner but needed family members help with my kids. That surgery date worked best for everyone. I started this process in January nervous but determined. Covid happened and delays started. But I’m thankful because it gave me time to change my mind from Sleeve to Bypass surgery. I did 6 months of nutrition classes that my insurance decided is no longer a requirement after I finished. But again I’m just super thankful for all the advice and phone calls I had with my dietician. Ready to take this last leap and embrace the healthier life I’m working so hard to get. Great day!!

Approval & Surgery Date!

Anthem Blue Cross PPO. Yeah kind of wasted time, but good news is all that time really helped me look at the foods I was eating. Realizing how little protein I was eating and so much carbs was a big eye opener. I feel much more ready! Good luck to you! -
Hey guys, I’m fortunate enough to have my Mom stay with me to help me after surgery. But my question is, I have a 4 & 2 year old and I’m wondering how long I should ask her to stay? Appreciate the advice!
-
Thanks for the feedback! The “forever” comments made me laugh. But I’m taking advice seriously and have asked for 2 weeks minimum and 2 more if possible.

Ok I’m on my last month with dietician visits & last doctor visit. Bloodwork, psych done & Doctor letter of approval finished. The end is so close! I started this journey thinking only about the sleeve. Delays from Covid made this process longer and the more research I did, the more I came across sleeve conversion to bypass. I’ve had a change of heart and looking more into bypass because of the long term success rate. I’ve spent this entire year reaching for this goal and suddenly I’ve changed my mind on surgery type. Anybody else feel this way? Love any feedback right now. I’m 36 years old, can’t have anymore kids and I want the long term help to be successful at weight loss.

Losing too much weight BEFORE surgery??
Luna805 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey guys! Question for all: Can you lose too much weight during the insurance mandated weight loss? Meaning, if my BMI was 41 and then 6 months later it falls below 40... can I disqualify myself? I have BCBS PPO insurance in CA. During this Covid lock down, I stopped eating out and I’m dropping weight. Not a crazy amount but I’m somewhat afraid to tell them I’ve lost 15lbs because it’ll put me under the 40 BMI. I’m on month 5 and have 1 more left and I’m so close! Just from delays & stress and it being SO hot out, I’ve just naturally dipped down in pounds and I’m just trying to do everything right to qualify. -
Hey guys! I’ve completed 4/6 nutrition appointments needed. I was delayed do to Coronavirus, but I’m so ready for the final one! Just waiting out these last 2 months seems like forever!!! Decided with the sleeve & hoping CA stays open for elective surgeries. I don’t have an estimated surgery date yet but I can feel that I’m close!

Hi! I just had a successful meeting with my Doctor and was given a referral to the Bariatric program in my area. Even though I have a PPO insurance, I still needed this step. I am going to do 6 months of nutrition appointments required by my insurance and I call tomorrow to set it up. I also started blood pressure medication today. My BMI is right at 40 so I am nervous about being disqualified but hoping the BP meds help my case. Wishing everyone a successful day on their journey and wanted to share. Got the ball rolling and feeling good!

Do you see yourself as thin yet?
Luna805 replied to JRT Mom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I read this and kinda laughed at myself. I haven’t had the WLS yet, but I’m already noticing a boost of confidence and seeing myself thinner. Not crazy, I think I’m skinny, but I’m already identifying with a healthier body. Maybe because I’ve always fluctuated weight, I know what I look like under this weight gain. I feel very relaxed and ready to be the me I see in my head :) -
Good luck! Be your own support system and fight for that healthier you!

Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
Luna805 replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called my bariatric team after being canceled for almost TWO months and I’m able to continue in the program using Zoom. All the group classes were moved online and I’m doing all my nutrition classes at home. They told me not to call and to wait until further notice but I called and I’m back doing my steps. Just a heads up, if anyone is still waiting for info maybe give them a call now. Good luck! I’m so ready! -
Coronavirus causes canceled group weigh ins
Luna805 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I was waiting for this to happen.. my bariatric team called and said my appointments (and everyone’s) are suspended until further notice. They will be calling me in 30 days to see where we are standing. Does this suck? Yep!! But I’m going to do my part and wait this out like everyone else. Just thinking.. anyone else have this issue yet? I’m going to be tracking my weight on an app so I can show proof that I was still doing my part, although I realize that the insurance might just say start over. Any ideas welcome! Good luck to you all while some of our journey is being put on pause.
