February 2020 Post-Op Thread
ResaRoo replied to ResaRoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can relate. I was 308 the day of surgery and I’m at 288 today. 20 lbs in about 6 weeks, and I’ve been stalled for almost 4 weeks with no weight loss. I’m baffled. I don’t know if I should up my calories or lower my calories. I’m getting about 700cals a day and meeting protein goals most of the time. However, I don’t always get in all my fluids, so maybe that’s why? -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability

I’m hoping to kick start some weight loss. I’ve been in a stall for almost 3 weeks. I think I’m a bit worried that my metabolism is out of whack right now, and doing some IF might help it. -

I have a question. Sorry if it’s been asked already - I haven’t read through the entire thread yet. If I choose a 20-4 fast schedule, am I able to drink protein water during the fasting time? It has 70 cals, 9 fat, 2 carbs (no sugar) and 15g of protein. Otherwise, I won’t be able to hit my daily goal of 60g of protein because I can’t eat or drink enough in that 4 hour window. Will the drink ruin the fasting results? And if not, is it better to stretch drinking the protein water out over a few hours or drink it quickly? -
Wondering WHY I did it!
ResaRoo replied to IAmGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on feb 10. I had lost about 20lbs on the 3 week pre-op. I gained almost 10lbs from iv fluids and medicines. It took me over 2 weeks to lose those 10 lbs. I’ve since lost another 18lbs - in 5 weeks. I’d love for it to be faster, but any loss is great. I am also eating 600-700 calories a day. But I’m also not quite as active a I was in feb and March, what with the extreme cold weather and everything locked down. Sadly, some of us lose slower than others. That was the case for me before surgery. I always lost slowly, so continuing to lose slowly after surgery isn’t really all that surprising. -

Something to consider: You will be able to maintain 1000 calories a day quite easily. It might be much harder for your sister to do this once you’ve reached goal weight. You would have to push past full, or eat very frequently. Your sister would be able to eat 2-3 times as much at a sitting before feeling full. So while it makes sense you are both losing the same amount now, since your both eating the same amount of calories, I suspect it will be much harder for her to keep the weight off or fend off hunger pangs . -

I feel your pain. It was starting to warm up, snow was melting and freezing to ice at night. And now we’re having snow storms. With windchill it’s been around -27 C out (-16F). It’s hard to get out much and walk because of the cold, deep snow, and hidden icy patches. Normally I’d go and walk around a mall or walking track, but everything is closed (understandably). -

Struggling to get in all my protein. I can’t seem to tolerate the shakes since surgery. They don’t stay down very well and taste awful now. What is everyone else doing to get enough protein? Any good recipe ideas? -
Im scared of gaining weight through this crisis

Ummmmm, what? Are you suggesting that China, Italy, Spain, etc are all making up their sickness and death rates and slowing their economies just to make Trump look bad for the upcoming elections? Are you serious?? And honestly, anyone who currently supports Trump, despite his past comments and actions, is hardly likely to change their minds anytime soon. And many people vote party, not person. Glad you have great immunity. Many in your community do not. And not everyone has great healthcare insurance in the event they get very ill or have after effects like compromised lungs. -

Since many of us are mostly home-bound with public spaces and schools closed, does anyone have any good exercise apps or videos they can recommend? I asked a few friends, but all of their suggestions were more appropriate for those who are already fairly active fit and not overweight. -
Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?
ResaRoo replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That’s awful. I’m really sorry for all of you who’ve had your surgeries postponed. But don’t give up. It’s better to wait a bit longer than the possible worse case scenario. -
GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +

I’m a month out of RNY surgery. I was 333 pre-op and was down to 308 on the day of surgery. Now, 4 weeks later, I’m at 300. Is it normal to only lose 8 lbs in the first month? Everything I’ve read has said that you lose the most in the first 2-3 months after surgery. What am I doing wrong?? I’ve been drinking enough and getting all the needed protein most days. I’m eating around 500 cals a day. Little sugar and fat. I average about 8000 steps a day. Did anyone else experience this? Any advice/suggestions? -

I find I’m cold most of the time now, too. Especially just after eating. -

Yes, I’ve had that experience as well. Some days even measuring doesn’t matter - it depends on what it is that I’m eating. I’ve started to only eat about 2/3 of what I’ve measured out. Then I wait about 5-10 mins, and if I don’t get that “I’ve eaten too much” feeling, I’ll eat the rest. Sometimes I don’t bother eating the rest even if I’m not full, but I try to if it’s rich in protein. -

I can do relate to you. The weird weight gains and slow losses are frustrating. I’ve been using happy scale to track weight loss, so I can see a slow loss is happening. It’s just frustrating because I was losing faster on a higher calorie diet before the surgery than I am now. My nut has told me not to worry and that things will start happening soon. It’s hard to be patient, though. Especially when reading that the first 2-3 months after are when you experience the greatest weight loss. And at almost a month out, I haven’t lost a great deal at all. -

Oops - typo. Meant to say that 25lbs was PRE-op, not post op. 🙄 -

Yes, it’s 26 lbs now. But 25 of those were post op. I gained after surgery and it took 2 weeks to lose that. Now I’m down almost 2 lbs below my day or surgery weight. Aunt Flo just paid her monthly visit, so I’m not expecting any loss for at least another week. Blah. -

I find the protein shakes taste awful now. Just have to power through them. Is anyone else losing really, really slowly? The scale is moving downward, and I can tell my pants are much looser, so I know I’m making progress. But at the current rate of weight loss, I’m only at about 1.5-2 lbs a week. I don’t know if this counts as a stall, since I haven’t yet had a big drop in weight. Is anyone else experiencing the same? It’d be nice to know I’m not alone. -
I started a new post-op thread for us. Not sure how to link to it. It’s in the post-op forum.

Surgery this month, wife threatening divorce
ResaRoo replied to Xx1jpt5xx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Days 3&4 were the absolute worst for me in terms of pain, discomfort and ability to drink water and just function in general. It will get so much better! I was back to work after 2 weeks, and the afternoons were a bit tiring at first, but everything is good now. -
I think that since it’s now March, we should make a February 2020 post op thread.
-
@smund - so sorry to hear about your struggles. Things will get better. I hope they can repair your teeth easily. I didn’t even know it was a possibility until the surgeon told me about 20 minutes before surgery.
-
I had the same experience as Lisa. Day 3 was physically the worst, and then it started to get better. A few emotional days afterwards, but pretty much back to “normal” now (2.5 weeks post op). I went back to work after 2 weeks and it’s been okay. I find that I get really tired after lunch, but just have to power through it. Hang in there!

Yes, the burping eases up a lot. Once you start adding in soft foods in a couple weeks, be prepared for some gas on the other end. 😂😬
