    Gerd & Sleeve

I had serious GERD prior to surgery. A combination of my weight and my diet. I took medication daily for it. After surgery, not a single instance of GERD so far and no medication. Just my experience so far, everyone is different.

Stall is officially smashed! Lost 6.4lbs this week.
  3. Drinking cold water really hurt in my chest too at first. It has slowly gone away though and as long as I don't gulp my liquids it's all good now.
  4. It was super easy for me immediately after surgery too. I could drink my fluids and walk with no issues and no pain. Don't worry, the difficulty will come lol.

I'm at ~700 calories already which is where my Dr wants me to be. Yes he cleared me to go back to lifting so I'm very excited to get back in the gym on Thursday! I've just been walking a few miles a day so I'm ready to lift. Hopefully that'll help kick it into gear. I have also become intolerant to some foods. I used to love tuna and now it just turns me off. There are several things I can't stomach anymore, including my chewable multivitamins and calcium supplements. They make me nauseous now so I have to find something else. Fortunately I can still handle eggs and some other things I like.

Man this stall is for real. I was cruising weeks 1-5 but in weeks 6 and 7 I've only lost a total of 1.8 lbs. Hopefully it'll pick up soon.

My cardiologist had me on a medication that would cause severe debilitating leg cramps at night. He recommended taking a CoQ10 supplement (which is normally used for heart health but has other positive effects) and the cramps stopped almost immediately. Luckily I was later able to get off the medication that was causing it in the first place.
  9. That's awesome thanks for the response. I used to work out all the time but after several injuries and health issues turned into laziness I stopped. I'm ready and excited to get back into the gym and hit the weights though. It's tough on the days that I work because I get up at 3:30am and don't get home until after 7pm but on my days off I'm going to be diligent. My relationship with food has so drastically changed over the last 6 weeks it's insane. Finally a healthy relationship! It really is nice to see someone close to where I recently was be successful in this journey though, you look great!

That's hilarious, I use those same exact meal prep trays and today had a sliced up turkey sausage link and cheddar cheese cubes as my snack as well lol.
  11. Wow that's amazing, congrats! We are the same height with almost the same exact starting weight and goal weight so it's encouraging to see it can be done. What did you do to get there so quickly?

    No goal weight?

I have a final goal weight and I set a few goals for myself along the way. I'm not going to stress about it but I like to have something to shoot for to help keep me on track. I have a long way to go but I didn't put the weight on overnight and I know it won't come off overnight either.

Dogs! Those are 2 cute pups. I have 3 rescues myself. Here's the latest one when we first got her, Graycie, and her laying on top of her big brother, Bo, watching TV with me.

Thanks! I'm sure it will once the calories come up. I'm doing great. I have to watch the gulping but I'm beyond just sipping. I just have to be diligent and drink often between meals.

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Wow you guys are doing great! I had my surgery on 1/10 and so far I'm down 28lbs (58lbs total). I've had it pretty easy so far. I know a few people who have had the surgery that had several foods they could no longer tolerate but I haven't found any yet. I was eating scrambled eggs (well, AN egg lol) at 2 weeks. It blows me away how small my portions of food are now and I feel full and satisfied and it doesn't really bother me that I can't have more. That's one of the main things that worried me going into this. I lost a lot of the cravings I used to have. The best thing so far is no more GERD! I've been sleeping so well which is important for me since I get up at 3:30am for work. I feel so much more energy throughout the day and all last week I wasn't tired at all even on the long commute home (I don't get home until 7-7:15pm). I've been able to each chicken, some beef, nothing has really bothered me yet. I haven't tried raw vegetables yet though I'm going to wait a bit for that Anyways, keep up the good work guys!
  17. Mine has also calmed down. Not all the way but better. I saw my Dr just as a precaution but he checked me out told me the same thing, that it's normal and should subside within 6 weeks or so.
  18. I was wondering this same thing. I had surgery on 1/10 and had very little pain afterwards. Suddenly over the last 2 days I've had a hot burning pain below and to the right of my belly button. It hurts worse when I'm sitting vs standing and walking. Feels like I've torn something or a hernia but I don't feel anything protruding.

    PAIN, 8 DAYS POST OP

I had surgery on 1/10 and my wife had surgery on 1/17. I had almost zero pain and was out walking around the block and going up and down the stairs 2 days after surgery. I was really surprised. However my wife is still having pain. Everyone and every surgery goes a little differently. Rest up and don't do too much, just let it heal and you should be fine soon.
  21. That's awesome, congrats! I can't wait until I can say the same.
  22. I was required to do a liquid diet 5 days pre-op but I ended up doing a week instead. A co-worker of mine had surgery the day before I did (different surgeon) and he wasn't required to do any special pre-op diet. It didn't really bother me and I think actually helped me with the diet after surgery. Every surgeon has their own program and it's probably just best to follow what they ask. Both of our surgeries went well and we're both doing fine now, although I'm able to tolerate more foods than he is (probably totally unrelated to our pre-op diets).
