First Fill Today ;-)
lessme replied to MarylandMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope this works to get the scale moving too. There is nothing like losing weight to motivate one to work harder. I have had one fill and the surgery six weeks ago. I have only lost about 2 lbs. Everyone on the boards says it sometimes takes 3 or 4 fills to get the right adjustment. I think because I only have 60 lbs to lose that I am really SLOW. I do have high blood pressure, high cholestrol, and high blood sugar so I really needed this to help resolve some health issues. Please keep us posted as to your progress after this fill. -
I did not know this about fills! Losing weight again- Yea!

Sadie, I too have noticed that the receptionist ,Cheryl, hates her job. The other day she said she would never have an operation. I asked her if she was banded and she said NO WAY. I also like both nurses, but I have only lost 2 lbs since I was banded on June 23rd. I have had one fill of 3.4. I am glad you said the nurses would be more aggressive because I think I need more on my next fill Aug. 20th. Also thank you for what you said about Dr. Brown's positioning of the band. I had absolutely no problem with the surgery and no pain in recovery so I do think he is good. I hope I do start to lose more weight. I'm so glad for you!! -

Hi Sadie, I got banded by Dr. Brown too on June 23rd. 20008. Do you wait once a month for your fills? I had my first fill on July 25 (3.4cc in a 10cc band). Did you fill a lot of restriction from your first fill or did you notice more at your second fill. Did Sherry or Alison do your fills? Did you ask for more of a fill? I am so glad you got to your perfect fill at 6cc. I hope I experience that too. Hoooray for you -
HeatherO You have done so well. I am fascinated with how you asked for agressive fills. I am afraid to ask for that. I have had one fill of 3.4cc. You mentioned eating right and I was wondering what you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. NO grazing. I am impressed with you!

my dr made me feel good today :)..kinda long
lessme replied to fivebyfive's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey good for you. I have 3.4cc in a 10cc band and I haven't lost any weight. I am still hanging in there with protein shakes and scrambled eggs and broth based soup. I haven't eaten a sub sandie yet. My fill nurse said some bandsters are really crazy and expect to lose like gastric bypass patients and she said she was relieved to hear that I was realistic about the slower weight loss. I am so glad your doctor was encouraging. It is so important to have a doctor who is on your side. The last thing any of us need right now is to be scolded or told we are not doing things right. You are right on track. -
Sad but true - friends that are jealous!
lessme replied to Christina40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Christina I too have experienced the angry friend or should I say the friend who pointedly ignores the fact that I have had this surgery. She is what I call a begrudger. She is especially angry that my insurance has covered a good deal of the surgery and she continually asks exactly how much I had to pay and then smirks. She never asks supportive questions and just basically ignores the giant elephant in the room. You are gorgeous and I am sure she is JEALOUS that you have finally found something that works. Most of us have tried everything from Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, Slim for Life and Nutri system and maybe out friends just think this is another attempt that will probably fail. I wish you all the success--especially hard when a friend can't or won't be there for you. We are all here for you because we can so relate to what you are going through. -
I just got my first fill and the nurse said she put 3.4 cc in a 10cc band. I really don't feel any restriction yet but I am only eating liquids. My doctor only does fills once a month. HeatherO is this how often you get your fills. It seems like some people lose weight so much faster than others do. I honestly haven't lost any weight yet so I am hoping I will lose a little bit before my next fill. What have been all of your experiences? Northwest nance how often did you get fills and did you lose weight all through that process?

I loved your blog.It really showed me the band fills need to be adjusted and you can get the right restriction. I love your honesty even when it is hard to be honest.

How to lose weight in full liquid stage?
lessme replied to noahsmomm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completly understand you worry, concern and frustration. I am 4 weeks after surgery and when I went for my 2 week post op check up I had regained some of the weight I had initially lost during the liquid. I appreciate the comment about bandster hell because the appetite does return. However my nurse said IT IS OKAY. She reassured me that I was not a failure as most people have this reaction. She assured me that I will lose weight after my first fill. I have been making sure I get my 60g of protein a day and trying to eat mushed up cheese, protein shakes and soup. I use unjury protein that my mentor recommended because it tastes good and is easier to digest. Everyone has been through this phase and there is light at the end of this tunnel. -
Im freaking fustrated...
lessme replied to BumbleBree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey its okay, I can totally relate. I was banded on June 21st and I thought I had lost 15 lbs. Then I went in for my 2 week post op checkup and they weighed me and said I had lost 2 lbs!!! I was really discouraged for about a day and then they scheduled me for my first fill on July 25th and said most people don't really start losing until then. I have consoled myself with the thought that we are on the down side now. We have the band and from now on everything is going to get better. I understand how discouraging slow weight loss can be but you can do it. -
My first fill is July 25th and I can't wait to start losing. I have read over and over that it is no big deal and that it is so quick that it's over before you know it. Did anybody else just stop losing before their first fill. I was banded June 21st and I lost 15 lbs but when I went for my 2 week post op check up she said I had lost only 2 lbs. I hadn't weighed myself. Yikes, I hope my first fill will be like Cathchats and I will notice a restriction. The thought of losing weight and gaining control of my eating has definitely over ridden any fear I might have of the pain of the fill. Was there anything you ate before the first fill that helped you feel full?

I too am a lurker. I have never replied to a thread but this one is so supportive and up my alley. I only told 3 friends that I thought would be supportive. Two of these friends were great but one is skinny and so resentful. She keeps trying to see me to see if I have lost any weight and it puts pressure on me because I really haven't since I havent't had my first fill. My BMI was rather low but I had high blood sugar, high lipids, and high blood pressure. I went for my check up and the doctor said I was doing great and don't get discouraged about not losing weight until my fisrt fill. I am honestly sorry I told that one friend, I feel I should have waited until after I had lost significant weight and then told her. I can totally relate to many of you who have kept is secret. It is very personal especially if it has been a life long struggle.

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

I can totally relate to this. My partner of 14 years had the exact same reaction. She was completely against the gastric bypass but very supportive of the lap band. It sounds like you are doing very well -
Did you tell your Doc?
lessme replied to cara51183's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am so glad to hear you say that. I am 57 and my partner of 14 years is my support person. I told the psych person and she seemed glad that I had someone who loved me. I am a total lipstick lesbian but I am tired of battling high blood pressure and high cholestrol. I was honest with everyone from the scheduler to the nurse, the doctor, and the billing person.
