question on eating steak
tp78 replied to kgranite79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First everyone is different so you will not know if you can eat steak until to try it. But you will need to eat slow take very small bites and chew chew chew. Take it slow since it will be your first time eating it. Also get a good cut like filet since it is very tender or t-bone. Cheaper cuts will not break down as easy. For me I can eat filet but I am not able to eat ground beef go figure. I have problems with chicken breast at times also depends on if its to dry. And note no question is stupid... Its when you do not ask questions that you run into problems. Good luck. -
First Call your insurance company ok. There is no point in you spending money on weight watchers if you do not have to. Ask them what they require for approval. Do they require a 6 month documented diet? if so ask how it needs to be documented and if weight watchers is ok. My insurance did not require the 6 month diet but my sisters insurance does require a 6 month supervised diet. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Post Op diet advice required
tp78 replied to Becksie2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HAHAH I am a twit. I thought you meant a pre op diet. DUH on me. Anyway. For the 2 weeks liquids it depends on what your doctors says. For the first 4 days i was told to be on Clear Liquids. the for the rest of the 2 weeks i was told full liquids.then 2 weeks of muchy foods 2 weeks soft food then go on to regualr food. Every doctor is different though Clear I did chicken and beef broth and i got some fruit protien shots from GNC. Full Liquids I did tomatoe Soup cream Soups put threw a blender to make them smooth. Honestly you should have received a book with a diet to follow. If you do have question call your doctors office that is what they are there for -
Post Op diet advice required

Your doctor should have told you what you can and can not have. I would call them and find out if its ok. I did not have to do the 2 week liqiud diet prior to surgery. But my sister is doing it now and they have her drinking 6 slimfasts a day plus water. She is only allowed to have the high protien and low carb slim fasts. She is not allowed to have the slim fast optima. Do not know why but thats what they told her. Honeslty though you really should call your doctor they will tell you what protien shakes to drink. they would never put you on just water for 2 weeks. good luck and let us know how you do and what they told you. -
Ok what you may want to do first thing in the morning is drink something warm or hot to losen up your band. i know for me i am tight tight tight in the morning and can not eat at all. but If i drink some hot coffee or tea it losens up my band. Alot of bandsters are real tight in the AM but losen up by lunchtime. I do not understand why this is but its how a lot of us are. Afternoon i am able to eat with out an issue. And I can drink cold things. But in the morning no way could I drink something cold. What you are experiencing is the same thing I do. Try something hot in the AM. if this does not work for you maybe you should get a little more out.

Did something so stupid and now I'm sick...
tp78 replied to Angelsma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I am so sorry. Yeah Bread and I do not get along at all and i am almost 6 months post op. I think most banders have experienced this at one time or another. chalk it up to a learning experience. ie don't do it again. Ok if you drink water it may just make you throw up. I would wait it out. But if it has to come up let it come up. You do not want to get a block if you do throw up or start sliming my doctor suggests going back to liquids for 24 hours. throwing up can cause your stomach to swell. Hope that you feel better. -
No gross out I think we have all been threw it. Anyway to get relief i would use Milk of Magnesia or ex lax. The I would start using a fiber supplement to help with this so it does not happen again. i personally use fibersure it has 5 mg of fiber in a teaspoon and you just mix it in with Water or juice what ever you want and it doe not taste like anything. I also get Special K protien water. it has 5 mg of protien and 5 mg of fiber. Hope this helps

4 wks post op and I am so hungry
tp78 replied to zeama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Zeama, Completely normal for a lot of us. Wish I could tell you it gets better with the first fill but everyone is different. Like you I was so hungry and could eat anything before my first fill. I too get hungrier right before my cycle. Just keep in mind that your band is not inflated yet its just sitting in there with no fill in it. Honestly I had no restriction after my first fill but I went back and got another fill 6 weeks after that I finally found restriction. woo hoo It does happen but for some of us it takes 1,2,3,4 fills to feel your band. I wish I was one of those people that never needed even there first fill. HA my aunt was like that she never had a fill and had surgery 2 years ago(grrrrr just a little jealous). But I am not that way so fills I need to get. Just remeber to follow the band diet. protien first veggie's second then starch(carbs) and do not drink during or for and hour to 2 hours following your meal. Hard Yes I Know I still sometimes struggle with that If you need to eat more eat protien it does make you feel fuller longer. Good Luck -
Ah Flowers I am sorry. But you will be fine. Just remember the first 6 weeks is for healing not losing. That is what your doctor will tell you anyway. I had the same questions. Since I did not over eat either prior to gaining either. My doctor explained to me that with the band I would lose even though I have insulin issues. But I do not know why could not really get a straight answer. But so far I am losing. I have had 3 fills and I unfill. Just keep doing what you are doing. And in no time you will see a loss. Your first fill is coming up soon. Please let me know how you are doing. Trish

Flowers, Slow loser compared to her 28 pounds since June is what I meant. it took me 5 months to lose 34 pounds I am slow compared to a lot of people on the site. LOL. But I am happy with it. When were you banded July and you have lost what 15 pounds by what your ticker says. So so far you have lost faster then me as well. I also have a problem with insulin due to PCOS but I take Metformin.

Ok I can completely understand your frustration. Me I am a SLOW LOSER. I was banded MARCH 13th and I have lost only 34 pounds. But I had to take a hard look at myself and tell myself that its ok to lose slow. Some of us are just slow losers. LOL I had to beat that montra into my head. Are you exersizing at all? that will help. You may not see weightloss from exersizing right away but you will see inch loss. Safe weightloss is 1 to 2 pounds per week. Just keeping thinking that way and you may find that you are not as discouraged. Also a lot of the real fast losers have a higher BMI then you do so they will lose faster. Vent all you want this is what this forum is for.

Ok this past tuedays I went in for my 3rd fill. I was able to drink the Water in the doc 's office with out any issue. later that day my husband and 3 kids all came down with a stomache bug. So by 2 am I was throwing up and felt like I was going to die. I normally get very swollen after a fill and it take about a week to 10 days before I am able to eat solids. But i am more swollen then usual and I think its from having a stomach virus and getting my monthly friend early(i am usually a lot more restricted during this time anyway). So right now I am unable to drink anything cold it just comes right back up. Warm and Hot I have no issues with. I really do not want to have to go back and get it unfilled. But I will if this does not resolve somewhat over the weekend. Need some advise. Should I just deal with it for the weekend sticking with Clear liquids with unflavored Protein powder added to it. Thank you in advance

Ok just want to know what other peoples doctors are telling them to do. My doctor just wants no food day of fill only liquids (duh common sense I think) day after fill is liquids also. But after the second day he states that you can go back to normal eating. I for one can not I have to be on liquids for about 3 days then mushys for at least 2 before going back to solids. Just wanted some other feed back. Thanks so much
