Sleeve Percentage Difference!
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Zyad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon never said to me how much was removed. My nutritionist once mentioned something about a 32 Bougie (the tool they insert into the stomach as a guide before stapling it to it’s new size). From my understanding most sleeves are done between 30 and 40 Bougie (.4” to .5”). In a study with porcine stomachs the smaller the Bougie the greater the stretch when inflated. It was a small study so not sure if results are consistent with it in human conditions. -
Surgery this month, wife threatening divorce
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Xx1jpt5xx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
All I have to say is- your body, your choice. She can either support you or leave you. The having to make you choose between her and surgery is a manipulative behavior and it’s not healthy. If you feel that surgery is the tool you need to be healthier then you have to do what’s right for you. ETA- if your wife’s biggest concern is the weird food assure her that it’s not weird aside from some protein shakes and the pre-op diet they have you do. Although you probably won’t be eating a bunch of rice, pasta, or bread anymore. I eat what I make my kids for dinner all the time- chicken stirfry, veggie lasagna, baked chicken and mashed potatoes, and even oatmeal. Sure it’s not the same amount as them or like before but I don’t have to cook a bunch of extra meals separate which is awesome. -
Pacemaker/Defib woman considering sleeve?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to meryls's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don’t have a pacemaker but I do have a heart valve defect and had my sleeve done in December 2019. If you have questions definitely talk to the surgeon you want doing it as they’ll have you more than likely be cleared by your cardiologist for surgery anyway. I know it’s not exactly what you were looking for but I hope it helps. -
Did anyone go crazy before pre op diet started?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to kg2519's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanksgiving was the week before I started my pre-op liquid diet. I had some small pieces of things but didn’t go too crazy. I just remember thinking that I’m worth more than how that food will momentarily make me feel. -

December 2019 Sleeves
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to JediMom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I like to make smoothies for breakfast. Either frozen fruit or ice cubes with spinach almond milk and protein powder. For breakfast also a fan of- egg white omelettes, Fat free cottage cheese with sugar free jam, and occasionally oatmeal. Lunch is usually grilled chicken or fish with some kind of vegetable and occasionally potatoes. Dinner is usually the same as lunch but also soup, shredded beef from pot roasts, and more vegetables. My go-to snacks are unsweetened applesauce mixed with unflavored protein powder and cinnamon, Greek yogurt, fat free cottage cheese, and light string cheese. I'm dying for a salad and can’t wait to have cucumbers and celery again! -
Sounds like you’ve hit the 2 week stall. Happens a lot! It can last a few days to a few weeks and can happen anywhere between 2-6 weeks post op. Just keep going and I promise the weight will come off.

Work.....How long were you out?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to HLsleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’ll be off a total of 8 weeks but I’m also having 2 surgeries in that timeframe so I know my experience isn’t typical. -
You aren’t bugging them, I promise. If you’re in pain then it needs to be addressed especially because you aren’t even 6 weeks post op yet. Hope you feel better.

Medical ID Bracelets
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to SabrinaGoddess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got mine from Lauren’s Hope. I’ve attached pictures but you can customize the info on most of the ones they offer. Sign up for emails and get a discount. Reasons for one include no blind NG as it can perforate the stomach wall because your anatomy has changed. NSAIDS like ibuprofen can cause stomach ulcers and bleeding, and sugar can lead to dumping syndrome. Also, mine says LSG instead of VSG because they’re different scarring patterns. -
December 2019 Sleeves
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to JediMom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my sleeve 12/17 and I’ve lost 16lbs since surgery day for a total of 79lbs when I started my journey May 10th. I’m on the soft foods and honestly I just want something crunchy at this point and can’t wait to have cucumbers again. -
VGS scheduled for February - pain questions
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to MoonPiePrincess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn’t have much gas pain after my sleeve but definitely earlier last year when I had my appendix removed. Walking really helped, like a lot! I walked around the unit maybe 10 times in hrs 12-24 after surgery. And yes they release the gas but some does get trapped and some use heated and humidified gas as it helps to prevent the cellular death that causes the referred shoulder pain. If you’re worried about it, ask your doctor to go over step by step what will happen in your surgery including gas use. -
6 month of diet monitoring prior to surgery
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to shawnt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine requires the 6 months of monitoring before surgery. I lost 60lbs from when I started to surgery day. However the program that I am part of included several visits with a nutritionist along with- cardiologist, pulmonologist, physical therapist, psychologist, along with any testing they needed and an EGD. So for me it wasn’t just the diet monitoring. I do agree with others that I would ask your insurance company which BMI they use for surgery and the criteria may be different if you have weight related co-morbidities. -
Breaking the 3 week stall!
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to jlb8080's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I read a lot of threads that seemed to have a variation of stall somewhere between 2-6 weeks post op. We just completely changed the physiology of our body’s digestive system so our body is trying to avert crisis while rebooting to our new normal. It can be really disheartening to not lose anything for a week or two right after surgery but stay diligent, drink the water and get the protein that you’re body needs to heal! -

December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeve surgery 12/17 and down 10.5lbs. I definitely feel like it should be more than that but happy with any progress.
