    Liquid diet

I didn’t the first 2 days of liquids but eventually your body doesn’t have a whole lot of “bulk” for formed stool so it’s bound to be liquid at some point. It gets easier but, yeah, never trust a fart. 😂

What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?

I think I was about 5-6 months out with my sleeve and about 3-4 months out when I had my revision. The perks of jerky is that you really have to chew it so it gave a lot of oral satisfaction which was nice.

What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?

I eat a lot of prepackaged stuff out of convenience for portion control- individual beef jerky packs, tuna pouches, Greek yogurt with a small amount of frozen berries (I buy the big bags and portion them as I need them), prepackaged individual salads, precut veggies or veggie trays, cheese cubes or cracker cut cheese slices, 100 calorie packs of almonds, and cottage cheese are all staples for me.

    This surgery is bullshit...

Let’s talk about some things that play an important factor in this- You’re a 6ft tall, 52yr old man who started out on the lower end of obesity before surgery and have a current BMI of about 32.5 BMI doesn’t take into consideration your build, lean body mass (especially if you do a lot of physical activity) or genetics. All of those things along with others like metabolic issues, your BMR basal metabolic rate (the calories needed to do nothing but exist) play a factor into how you will lose or maintain weight. Based on just a generic BMR calculator (no specifics like lean body mass, etc.) your body burns about 2100 at absolute rest. Eating only 800 calories a day leaves your body in starvation mode and will hang onto every calorie for what it’s worth and not let you continue losing weight. Try adding 2-300 calories a day and see if that helps along with tracking calories. Try something along these lines for a few days and see if it helps- Breakfast (eggs and turkey bacon) 2 eggs, scrambled with 2 cups fresh spinach, 2 slices turkey bacon and 1oz cheddar cheese- 330 calories and 24g protein Lunch (stir fry) 3oz chicken breast, 1/2 cup sliced zucchini, 1/4 cup diced tomatoes, and 1/4 cup onion cooked in 1tsp olive oil with spices (Italian seasoning, garlic powder, cumin, etc.)- 225 calories and 29g protein Snack 100 calorie pack of almonds (100 calories and 3g protein) OR 2 stalks celery with 1tbsp peanut butter (105 calories and 5g protein) Dinner (tortilla pizza) 1-8” flour tortilla topped with 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 1oz cooked Italian sausage, and 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese- 365 calories and 15g protein Total for the day- 1025 calories and 73g protein and that’s with the celery and peanut butter. If you need more meal ideas to get you (back) on track then message me. I have a notebook full of them!

    Water and Protein Intake

This is what I did as well. Those little 2oz bathroom paper cups were a lifesaver the first week. After that it got much easier.

    Serious sore throat from intubation?

Yeah, mine was pretty bad for about a week or so. They hit my uvula going down so it was swollen and irritated. See if they’ll let you have some throat spray or a cough drop.

Made some sautéed bay scallops with garlic and capers over spinach. Ended up still hungry so added some leftover stuffed mushrooms from earlier in the week. Ended up eating it all.

Totally get it. I’m the only one in my house who eats tofu so I have to really want it to open it which is why I also buy the shelf stable kind so it lasts longer. 😂 For breakfast tomorrow I’m going to take one of the pieces and scramble it with some veggies of some kind.

What foods have you broken up with?

I had the same problem with eggs for awhile after revision. I started using an egg substitute called “just egg” that has about the same calories and protein but made from plants. It tastes like eggs but was so much easier until I could tolerate regular eggs again at around 9 months out.
  11. I’m 15 months out from a revision (gerd caused by hernia), have been at goal for about 11 of those months and maintain on around 1300-1500 calories a day. Most of the meals I eat are pretty plant-based as most animal protein sits heavy these days. These are pretty typical days when I’ve packed all my meals for the day for work. The red blender bottle is a green smoothie with kale, spinach, a frozen fruit, protein powder and almond milk. The little thermos is almost always some kind of vegetable heavy soup. The calories for the day are pictured after each one. While they’re convenience food heavy (protein shakes and bars) I know that’s what I need at work as I rarely have time to sit and eat regularly meals. As you get closer to surgery and after surgery you’ll eventually find what works for you and you’ll be able to better gage hunger/fullness cues, what your body needs and the calories you’ll need. For now, work on tracking what you eat and making small changes, mindful eating, and finding ways to make your favorite dishes healthier. If you ever have questions we’re here to help the best we can even if that means directing you back to your surgery team and dietitian.

@GreenTealael I think your vegan at home would appreciate this meal (even with the brand of tofu I used labeled as chicken in Baritastic 😂). If I had eaten it all it would’ve been 412 calories, 20g protein, 20g carbs with 7g of fiber, and a whopping 30g of fat which seems fitting as I got the recipes from a vegan keto cookbook (the recipes are delicious!) I might eat more of it later as I’m probably only sitting at 600 calories total for the day. 😞
  13. I agree with tek. Your surgeons office will be the advice you should follow. However, after I had my revision (for gerd) I drank liquids pretty well right after. I managed broth, crystal light and water for my meals in the hospital the first couple days with no problem. After that I was on full liquids (including pudding and jello) for 2 weeks then purées for 2 weeks. With a revision you won’t have a pyloric valve so liquids will likely be easier but as you move on you’ll feel restriction from food.

    Food Before and After Photos

Went to a Turkish restaurant by myself for lunch today. The haydari (strained yogurt dip) and the vegetable stew were delicious but the Star of the show was definitely the keskul (rice and almond pudding) for dessert. I ended up eating most of it even though I was pretty full already. I did not take the leftover flatbreads or the rice home.

Been busy with work and baking. 😁 Magic cookie bars, copycat lofthouse cookies, salted caramel fudge, chocolate covered chocolate chip cookie bars, cinnamon applesauce bread, cheddar bay bread, and not pictured are some keto cheddar crackers and sugar free almond crescent cookies for a coworker. Also my meals from yesterday- broccoli cheese soup and turkey, hard boiled egg, and some green beans were the stars next to my green smoothie.

These are definitely airy and don’t have that heavy feeling that fried donuts tend to leave. Definitely going to be making versions of them again.

I’m not saying I already had cranberry walnut hand pies, peppermint mocha donuts, and baked potato soup on my list for later this week, buuuuut I totally have them on my “to make” list.

I baked them in a donut pan. I was surprised how well them came out. Came to about 120 calories with the glaze and sprinkles.

Made the kids donuts for breakfast and I forgot to add in the sugar to the batter. They still tasted good abs were sugary enough with the glaze and sprinkles.

    Food Before and After Photos

Just a little light cooking today- Spinach and roasted mushroom pappardelle (caulipower brand pasta), an apple chicken sausage Alfredo with linguine (caulipower brand), caramelized onion, turkey and cheddar hand pies, everything seasoned crackers (made from the leftover pie dough), roasted tomato jam (for the hand pies), and a double batch of coconut pecan frosting for cupcakes later this week. Then my plate of what I ate… and didn’t.

🤦‍♀️ It’s not weirdly chalky. This is what I get for replying while tired.

@ShoppGirl I use Olive Garden light Italian. It’s 35 calories for 2 tbsp but tastes like the original they use for their salads in restaurant. @GreenTealael I use nature’s best by isopure. It’s vanilla but blends nice and it’s the weirdly chalky. It is a mix of pea and brown rice protein with a little xanthum gum in it but the proteins are organic and it’s zero added sugar.

    Package submission

The first couple days weren’t fun but by a week after I was feeling great. My birthday was 12 days after my VSG with HH repair and I was laughing, spending time with family, driving and doing all my normal things. I could’ve easily gone back to work 3 weeks post op but took extended time off to have screws removed from my knee 45 days after my VSG so was out of work for a total of about 8 weeks.

    Get ready for my surgery

I bought those little bathroom cups and set up some that I would constantly refill with water to get me through the first couple weeks. Helped a ton to visualize that “ok, I’ve emptied 3 of them, one more won’t be so bad” instead of what seemed daunting in a big water bottle. Also, invest in good shoes. You’re worth the miles you’ll put on them and your feet with thank you!

I fired my clinic's nutritionist today

I’m glad you fired her. That “one-size-fits-all” approach is definitely dangerous. If she’s not taking into account your very physical activity what else is she brushing off in others?
