I was a healthy weight until I started puberty, then I kept gradually gaining wait. It was never really "all that big" in school, but I wasn't slim and I felt self conscious about my belly. What I now know is that I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which causes weight gain, insulin resistance and so forth. I would try all kinds of new eating habits but without understanding the root cause of my weight gain, the changes didn't help all that much. The leanest I've ever been is about 160 pounds and I felt I could stand to lose another 10-20 pounds. Some of that is due to my body type; all my excess weight likes to pile around my abdomen. Constant failure, coupled another acronym I didn't know I had, PMDD or Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, really messed with my confidence and my mind. Because of the cyclical changes with PMDD, I would feel capable of eating well and exercises for about two weeks out of the month, then for another two feel depressed, hopeless, and worthless. But I know myself better now and I'm hoping that this knowledge, coupled with some medication and gastric sleeve will help me reclaim my vitality.
