    banded 12/3/08

I made it through the 6 months ins. imposed monitoring, did all my pre-op requirements and here I am banded! I look forward to the physical changes and triumphing over food because now I will be controlling it instead of letting it have the power. I felt like a million bucks post-op but have been very sore since; especially my arms and legs. I think it's from climbing out of the surgical recliner because I was so mindful not to use my stomach & abdominal muscles. Being short was a handicap with those recliners. They should use those electric lift chairs to give us a little help up! Just wanted to share that I'm a bandster now.

    Only water for 5 days

At least it's only temporary , stay strong and call the office if you're feeling badly. I see that compared to other practices alot of Tri-state's requirements are stricter. A few days of missed calories and protein isn't detrimental. Best of luck to you; I was your neighbor that day- the first surgery done that morning.
  3. I am now down 1 month/ 5 to go! This week I had my sleep study and it was horrible. The tech woke me to put on the cpap mask due to apnea episodes.Had a difficult time returning to sleep but made it through. Upper GI was bareable. Met with the dietician today and I was feeling bad for not eating well and thought I had gained since I binged some so I answered the survey honestly (that I hated the 1600 cal. diet and wasn't following it) only to find out that I lost 3.5lbs. I feel incredibly guilty. My friend that is going through this is trying hard and making changes and she isn't doing as well as I whom hasn't tried yet. I told the dietician I wasn't motivated and felt like needed pressure to get serious. I was given 6 months to lose 13lbs., lost 4 so far so I have time to do the rest. Sorry I'm rambling. I'm soooo tired and fatigued.

    My Update

My surgeon requires we lose 5% of our starting wt. before surgery to show we're serious and to eat better to help shrink the liver to make surgery easier so they won't need to manipulate around the liver as much.

    My Update

Yes,Bjourn, I can find a way to make the diet work. I just don't see the point since I have time. After all, if I could eat properly longterm I wouldn't need the lap-band. I have trouble sticking to eating plans for more than a couple of weeks. The dietician wants me to concentrate on eating technique this month. I'm used to inhaling meals so it's quite a challenge. I really need to focus on chewing so I don't have sticking problems. Thanks to all for your support and kindness.

Does Anyone Have 1199 For Insurance?

I have 1199, the national benefit fund version. They have been good so far with approving my sleep study and the initial consults etc. Ofcourse they require 6 months of supervised dieting. If 1 appointment is missed or it's longer than 30 days between appts. I was told they make you start the 6 month timeframe over. I go to a Dr. that has a nutrition eval & dietician included so I only have the psych eval. out of pocket. I'm hoping for my surgery around Thanksgiving too. It will be my 40th BD so I'm anxious to get on with the new me! Best of luck on your journey!
  7. My name is Mary and after avoiding my weight issue my whole life I am starting this journey of l/b surgery. I'm frustrated that after finally taking the leap to get healthy and drop tonnage that my ins. is making me go through 6 months of dietician management before reviewing to approve this procedure. I'm going to be turning 40 at the time the surgery should be taking place if all goes as planned. I guess I'm mad at myself for not confronting my weight sooner. So here I am; the best is yet to come... right?:confused2:
