Hello everyone! My name is Marie and I am getting banded on the 16th. I start my preop diet tomorrow. I live in Utah and am going to Colorado to be banded by Dr. kirshenbaum. I am really looking forward to this change in my life. The only time I really remember being at a healthy weight was when I was 13. Then high school started and I had knee problems, and so my activites were limited. And it just kept getting worse. The most I have ever been able to lose in one period of time was 25lbs. But it came right back and then some. I believe now that I am an adult and understand the consequences for my desicions that this will be the best path to get me healthy. I am VERY EXCITED!!! p.s. My Mom always called m her Butterfly so I LOVE that we are Butterflies!! -

I am being banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum in less than 3 weeks, and am just curious how much his previous patients have lost and how long it took them. Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks!! -
Well, I am 23 and live in Utah. No kids for hubby and me yet, just haven't been able to get pregnant. That is one of the big reasons I am getting banded. I really think that the weight loss will help with fertility. I weigh 307 right now and am really hoping to get down to 150. I want to lose all I an in the first year, because after that is when we want to start trying for a baby. I think you should be fine by your little one's birthday. Most people are only sore for two weeks or so tops. It is nice to talk with someone and I'm glad you sent the request!!!

Hi akiramoon!!! Welcome to LBT!! I am being banded this month and am nervous and excited too. What helps calm my doubts about this being the right decision for me is partially looking at the before and after pics thread. Just type before and after pics into the search bar, and you will see so many people whose lives have been changed. Also there are some great Vlogs on you tube from people who have been banded. Good luck on your journey!!!

Has anyone else noticed that the research for this statement isn't even current? the best they have is from 3 years ago, and most is from the 90's. Sorry, but this is making me very irritated! -

Fat is healthy? :thumbup: They should tell that to my uncle whose liver was literally dying because of his weight. he got GP by the way and is doing so much better. -

Oh my GOSH!!! That is definitely a load of CRAP!! I can't believe that someone would actually use that. Oh, and if one isn't supposed to use weight loss surgery and isn't supposed to diet, then how the heck are we supposed to lose weight???:thumbup: -

Sometimes the band doesn't work for people, everyone is different. Personally I would rather start with the band because it is reversible. My aunt had GP and did fine for the first year or so, but is now permanently on a feeding tube. My uncle also had GP and is doing amazing! I really do think it depends on the person. But like I said the LB is reversible. -

I'm glad you've come here for support!! This is a great place to talk about fears, doubts, goals and success!!! I know what you are going through with your Hubby. Mine is also very worried about the surgery, but he said he is more worried about how my life will be with all the extra weight. I haven't been able to get pregnant yet, so I do see this as a type of fertility treatment. I hope you find the answers you are looking for!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!! -

If you are thinking about cost, then I do recommend my Surgeon, Dr, Kirshenbaum. He charges $9950 for the surgery, preop consultations, postop care for 3 months and his fills are $15 after the 3 months. He has pioneered some lapriscopic surgeries and has done many lapbands. Here is the link http://www.lapbandrockies.com/ I chose him because it is close to utah and airline tickets are fairly inexpensive to denver. I am most likely going to get my first fill from him and then find someone closer to home. I did look into the surgery being in Mexico, but my concern was trying to find a doctor that would do fills and post op care in the US if I had problems. Good Luck with your decision!!!
