Hi all, I took my tapes off today. I didn't have the steristrips, but the wide clear tapes (almost like packing tape...weird!). I have 5 incisions, 4 of them very small and one about 2 inches wide. Luckily, I haven't had much pain with them. I get to take a full bath later and am very excited about that. I am having gas pain still, but not necessarily the air from surgery...the digestion seems to be kicking in some overtime. I have been on a heating pad off and on and that seems to help me relax enough to let things resolve themselves, if you know what I mean. The family is staying clear of me! I had such a hard time getting up and around from the anesthesia that I did not take any of the prescribed painkillers. I was afraid they would make me even more nauseous than I was before. I have only been taking Tylenol and that is 'mostly' helping. Off for the bath! Woo hoo!

    Nov 20th people

Hi guys, I am back online. I did pretty well with the surgery, still sore and sleepy though. I am having a harder time recovering from the anesthesia than from the incisions. Anesthesia doesn't mix well with me. I had some gas pains Friday night and had to sleep sitting up, but they went away pretty quickly and I was in bed last night. Biggest gripe is this awful sinus headache...if I could just shake that I would be golden. Glad its over!!

My surgery is scheduled for this afternoon. I had hoped to sleep in this morning, but was too excited to sleep. I will be staying overnight at the hospital and be home tomorrow. I hope I feel well enough to pop in and see how you all are feeling on Friday!! Best wishes to everyone. Today is our first step to becoming new people.

I am getting excited, making sure I have things squared away at work. I am taking 5 days off and it runs right into Thanksgiving...so I won't have to go back until the 1st. I think my friends and family are more anxious than me, I have had surgery before so it doesn't scare me. I am just nervous that they won't get all the air out and I will have to deal with the pain from that.
  6. Miralax works wonders for me. It is a bit expensive, but worth it. (dried fruit can be quite expensive as well) Pooping costs lots of cash apparently!

My doctor will not be happy

You weigh 185...how are you supposed to lose so much so quickly? I am thinking he is confusing you with someone else who had a gastric?

I miss Texas very much. Back when I was much much younger I worked for Terrell's Dry Cleaning...now he is mayor...WEIRD. I think I am going to have my pic taken every 10 lbs lost and make a cool graphic of me shrinking. :rolleyes2::D

Hi all! I am a self pay, so my only dietary requirement is to eat light the day before surgery. My date is the 20th, I can't wait!

    Harrisburg Pa

Hello all, just checking back in to let you know how my visit with Dr. DiMarco was. After waiting over 2 hours PAST my scheduled time my husband and I finally got to meet and talk with him. He is incredibly nice and very informative! We discussed my health and even a bit about the full gastric bypass and he felt that the lapband is the best option for me. I am pretty tall and he is afraid that gastric bypass would make me too thin (imagine!). My main goal is to be healthy and to get off of all the meds. My next steps are to see the nutritionist and get pre-surgical tests done...then I get scheduled for surgery! Tas, how did your visit go? :crying:

    Weight Loss

I was told by my doctor that this is an aid for weightloss. This is not like gastric bypass, you will have to work on it. Also, PLEASE do not belittle your current weightloss...It is WONDERFUL!! All weightloss is positive, even the little steps. There are going to be great weigh ins and then those that are a little on the "meh" side. Keep going~and be patient~ :frown: I am a lifetime Weight Watcher, even have appeared as a Success Story in their magazine. I have gained back 50 lbs since the magazine article and have since decided that I need help. Weight Watchers is a wonderful program, and I hope to use all that I have learned (5 years in program) to make the most of my band...once I get the darn thing that is.
  22. Hi all, I am self-pay from the beginning unfortunately. My insurance does not cover anything to do with weight loss surgeries. For those of us who don't have to qualify for insurance, what is the pre-surgical process like? Do we still have to do all the weigh ins?

    Alli

My only concern is that Alli can also absorb nutrients, so with the reduced food intake you want to keep all the nutrients you can. I would advise you to ask the doctor about it first. You don't want to lose any hair or have dry skin.

    An embarrassing question.

Hooray for the honesty! I know you will do great and feel so much better. Keep us posted on your progress!

    Self-Pay out of the chute!

Well, I did have the initial consultation with Dr. Wieger and he confirmed I am definitely eligible for the surgery. But the surgeon I chose, Dr. DiMarco, is very busy and I do not see him until September. I am going to DisneyWorld for the first time in September so the timing is ok with me, I just will be at my heaviest in all of my pics which is depressing. I was 'kinda sorta hoping' I would be able to get through the process this month in order to lose those initial pounds before the trip, but oh well. I guess the wait is for the best as I would not want to have complications leading up to the Disney trip..especially when airfare is non-refundable!
