my girls are smiling and being little girls again. They just got their ears pierced and that has made their eyes sparkle. I have started seeing myself the way others have been looking at me. very large. it has been a new thing for me to see myself under this other person that I have walking around with. wow, I weigh twice as much as I did 20 years ago. I have been thinking about all the foods that we are not suposed to eat after being banded and have realized that there are very few that I actually eat now. I guess the celery and peanut butter will be one that I miss, but that is not much. I guess that is why I am so confussed about being this big, I eat the way they say I should but I just keep getting bigger. Hubby and I have been cutting our portions in half the last two months and I have gained more weight once again. It makes me want to cry, but maybe after the banding that will stop the cycle and my girls will no longer have to worry about their friends teasing them because of their fat mom. SC

Ok, my life is now full of firsts. This is my first blog ever, this is the first time I have ever even considered surgery for my weight, this is the first time I feel like I have hope in years. I just moved back to the states after being in Italy for my hubby's job. That was a big thing for me, however I do appriecate what we have in the states so much more after living without for a few years. My girls are 9 now and are geting teased because of me, and I hate that. I remember the same thing happening to me when I was a kid and it breaks my heart that I am now doing the same thing for my girls. I guess it really hit me when I skipped out on a field trip to the Zoo because I didn't want to embarass my girls. I have my surgeon consult on the 23rd (June) and that will be another first for me. Since we have just moved I haven't met any friends here in Texas yet, but this web site has been awonderful place for me to learn about the banding and meet caring people. I feel at home when I am on this web site. Ok I guess that is good enough for today. Ciao' SC

I'm glad you are feeling better. I have been on two cruises in the last two years, my experience is that they will do almost anything you ask them to. If you let them know that you are on soft food diet (mushies) they might even blend your food for you. The cruise lines are all different but I had no problems with the special requests from my children or my diet being pre diabetic. I was also impressed with how easy it is to not overeat on the ship. If you are not really hungry there ia always something else to do that doesn't involve food, just check the schedule every morning. On the cruie line that I was on they also had a fitness club of sorts that you earned points for doing the workouts (swimming, wall climbing, etc) and at the end of the cruise your points could be traded for fitness souviners. Have fun, and good luck!! Sherry -
Brandymom, do yourself a favor and don't beat yourself up over your looks. Take your picture from before you lost the 70 pounds and put it next to a picture of you without those extra pounds and you may see yourself differently. I keep having people tell me that there is no way I should even think about the lapband because they don't think I am that big. However they don't know that I have to use a seatbelt extender to ride in my hubby's truck. You can either tell yourself that you have done great with your weight loss and keep going or beat yourself up and not be happy with you new you. Give yourself time for your skin to resize itself and I am sure that you will be happy with what you see. SC

I read a helpful solution for keeping the food warm since it take longer to eat. This lady said she bought a mug warmer and then put her food on a saucer and kept it on the warmer. That way it stayed warm without having to run to the microwave, and it kept the original flavor. Hope this helps. SC -
Finally.....Banded today
mom2twins replied to HF2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you are doing ok. I had to go out of town for a little while and there is no internet there. You are not alone with the mom thing. My mom has been that way to me for years. Just do what you need to for yourself. Rest is you friend as well as walking. Take the walks when you can and get the rest when your body tells you it needs it. Keep your chin up and listen to what your body tells you it needs. I can't wait to hear when you reach your first goal for weight loss. Sherry -
I look at it this way. The more changes that I make before I have the banding the easier it will be to follow the rules after the banding. I have been reading the menus at our favorite restruants so that after I get the band I know where to go and still enjoy eating with my family. I think that will make it easier to still eat out and know I have options.

How to shrink your liver (and increase ST weight loss) – the low-carb, pre-op diet
mom2twins replied to SeattleSweetie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thank you soooo much for your post. I am new to all of this and had no clue what the "liver" thing was about. I only heard about the lapband a few weeks ago when doctor suggested I look into having one put in. You answered all my questions and made it not seem so strange -

it is wonderful that you are being so supportive. It will make a big impact on your partner at least with knowing that you are there. I am starting the process and my hubby says he is behind this, but he doesn't want to be involved. I do think it will affect him in some ways if only in watching what is happening to me. I know that having someone more involved and knowledgable about what is happening makes it easier to not have to keep explaining things to your own partner. I have not seen anywhere on this web site that is not for supportive family and friends. This is a wonderful place for anyone who is interested in gaining understanding and information. I think you are doing a wonderful thing for each other. -
I am new to the area and my doctor has asked me to check into the lapband. I was wondering if anyone was from here and could tell me more about the whole process.

Finally.....Banded today
mom2twins replied to HF2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad you fel so well, but the mom in me is going to say, please don't overdue it. You might feel it tomorrow if you do too much today. I have not been banded yet, but have had other things done to my body over the years. Please feel free to email me and let me know how you (and your new neice) are doing. I would love to make a new friend. -
It is great that you are willing to help others. We just got back from living out of the country and I had never heard of the lapband before a commercial in April. When I had my first doc appt with a stateside doctor she asked me to consider the lapband. It has been a whilrwind of trying to accept the fact that I need this, and then understanding what it is. I have twins girls that are 9 and have had eating issues with them for years. One of them has lost so much weight that she was monitored monthly for a year. I would love to have someone help me understand what is going to happen so that I can make the best decision for me and my kids. thanks, Sherry

my doctor has memtioned the lapband for me. I am looking for information about what to expect before and after. I have two 9 year old girls and need to make a good decision the first time. I have started reading information on the procedure but want to know about the LIFE side of the process. I have mixed feelings over what I have found so far. this is a big thing for me and I don't know if I am alone in that or not.

I think you hit the nail on the head for what most of us want to know. Thank you for asking the question I didn't know how to ask.
