How are you setting your Goal weight?
mom2twins replied to auntlucy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I looked at the BMI chart and picked a weight that would put me just below the overweight catagory, but not right on the line. Of course that may change once I meet with the surgeon on Monday. I just figured if I'm going to do this I don't want to be called overweight again. -
I have read a few post of people using the magic bullet. I as replaceing all applicances do to a recent move and would like to know which would be better to get. I have my consult with the surgeon on the 23rd and fom what I've been told my insurance works quickly with the banding. What is the main things you use these for and how much do you use them? Any replies will help me with my shopping. Thanks, Sherry

:blush:I am so computer challenged. It took me over 3 hours to figure out how to get the ticker to show up in the signature block. I think they are great and look really nice when you reply to a post. Now I just have to get over the hurdle of keeping it updated. I lost the first one that I did out in computer land and have no idea how to find it agian so I made another one. I guess my life will be first and little achivements from now on.

Will I chicken out?????
mom2twins replied to bamamine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
you came to the right place for information. Hang out in the chat rooms at different times and read the post for all phases of banding. I went from OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THE DOCTOR MENTIONED IT NO WAY to I am hoping that things will move quickly after my surgeon appointment on Monday. I'm only talking about a 4 week time period. I have read two books that I found refferenced on this site and have been adding my own opinions when I think they can be helpful. I had my seminar this morning and found out that most of the information they gave out I had already learned from reading so much on this site. Ask as many questions as you can think of and read the problems part of the posts also. You will find enough information to make the right choice for you. Good luck, -
Ok I had my seminar just to make sure I could check that block off. I found out that since I have been reading a few books and then on this web site so much that I already had heard most of what they had to say. The only thing new this morning was actually being able to hold a lapband in my hands. it was nice to be able to let my girls hold it also. They did ask a few questions once they doctor was finished talking to everyone. I'm not sure if hubby learned much or not, but at least he was there. I am starting to think that if they can do it sooner rather than later, I might just skip the three week go to grandma's and get banded. This site has been a real motavation for me. In less than 2 months I have gone from NO WAY AT ALL, to I think I am comfortable enough to really make this work. As I have said before in the chat rooms, you guys are great!

Blood Transfusion and 48 Hours to Go
mom2twins replied to BadgerMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are both very luck to have each other. It is great that you are so willing to be there. That will be somehting that will make your bond stronger with everything. God Luck with the banding on Monday. -
Froggie, I love watching for your posts!! Congratulations on your success. SC

I am glad to hear that you have an appointment with the surgeon. I go on monday 23rd for my first appointment with the surgeon. I'm not srue what to expect, but am ready to start putting the blocks in order. I went to a seminar this morning and it was not much more information than what I have gotten from the web site, except that he had a band that we all passed around and fiddled with. My girls went and they asked a question or two also. I'll keep checking in on your. SC

I am so upset today. Hubby said he was going to help me and support me if I do the lapband. I mentioned that I would like to start looking for an elipitcal exercise machine, maybe even a used one so that I could put it in the kitchen. He looked at me and said NO just go to the gym they have a great one on base. Ok if I was 135 pounds lighter (that would make me 140) and didn't have 2 9 year old girls to take care of that might work. I hate going to the gym and trying to do the machines next to a little twig in barely enough clothes to cover what a swim suit doesn't. Then there are all the young guys in the military who just make you feel even worse with their comments that they don't think you can hear. I finally have a house big enough to put some sort of excersice equipment in and not have to move furniture out. I liked using the eliptcal when my daughter was recovering from her car accident and feel that I would not get bored or tired of it for a while. I also like to watch DVD's and that would be no problem while here at home, plus I could still watch the girls or even do it after they go to bed, I am a night person. OK I just had to rant and this is my only outlet for now. I feel so betrayed by him. He says one thing and them undercuts me at every step. I may be one of those people that they say loose all the weight and leave an abusive person because you are no longer settling for seconds anymore. OK, I am done for today, the girls and I are off to price exercise machines.

I too remember the tv show. I have never used his tapes but the last Avon convention that I went to he was there. He is such a trip and so high energy. Another old set of tapes that i used to love were the ones with Tony Little. They were low impact but had lots toning and could progress as you did. They were great for my legs. I might have to check out some of the Richard volumes from the library. SC

Congrats on the date. That is really soon, are you starting a pre-op diet tonight? I have my consult with surgeon on the 23rd and am hoping for a quick turn around also. Thanks for the shopiing list also, it was great. SC

Yesterday was another of those first for me. Hubby and I took the kids to Six Flags again. I got my daughter to ride a roller coaster for the first time and even though she was having a fit she was in the car. I had to get out because I could not fit in to the seat. I was embarssed that I had to get out of the cart and walk off the other side of the platform. At least we were toward the back so not everyone on the ride saw what I was doing. I haven't really seen myself as a big person, but since we moved back to the states in March it has been hitting me. I am starting to realize that this is the last hope for me. not so happy today.

lap band surgical disaster
mom2twins replied to shelly123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow what an ordial. I'm glad that you are doing better. Thank you for telling us your story. I do believe in hearing both the good and the bad about the whole thing, that is why I choose to get information both from here and the doctors who don't alway stell the bad side of things. My angels watch over you. SC -
Ok I also have af ew people in my life that are like your friend, however in my case they are related to me. I have choosen no to tell them about it. The two that I did mentioned it to just acted like if they didn't hear me it wasn't going to happen. Then again these are the same people that told me after I lost my first baby that if I didn't rest I would have a relapse. ??? Ok I'll get to my point, maybe she just needs afew days to process this information. I know when the doctor first told me aobut it it was a shock to me. However, if she truely can't support you then make time for her when you want to and come here for the support that we can give you. I love this web site because of the lack of suppoert that I get in my off line life. Lots of luck to you. How far in the process are you? I have seminar tomorrow and surgeon appointment on Monday. Hoping to be an email buddy, SC

Not losing weight but losing sizes.....confused
mom2twins replied to debrainwater's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you are loosing size then you are still doing good. I personally don't have a set of scles in my house because I would be so fixated on the number that it would run my life. I usually weigh myself when I go to the gym, and only about once a week. I have not been banded yet and will not get a scale unless the doc recommends one. Your clothes and reflection will be your true answer. Good luck SC -
I truely have no friends other than this web site. With this being my 15th move in 20 years it has been a challengeto make friends. I don't car if my number says 0, it is not a reflection of how I feel when I read these posts, get answers to questions or even find apost that I can give an answer to help someone else. Of course as I read through the replies to this post I see a lot of repeat posters, but I don't see any from the person who started the whole thing. I do enjoy reading the thoughts and opionions from others who can really understand me and where I have been. Thank you all for starting and keeping this site active so that when the lapband was mentioned for my life I had a place to go and find honest information. This site is great even if some people find a way to detract from it's purpose. Please keep posting even if I am not your "friend" you are mine.

I have been on this site for about a month. I too came here looking for information, advice, friendship and support. This is a great place for it all. I have a friend or two who we email, and the chat room is a great place to hang out if you have time. I am the type of person who wants to know what can go right but also what can go wrong, that way I am prepared if something does. The people here are very honest and will answer any questions that you post. I have read posts asking about everything from how to deal with gas to getting breast implants after weight lose to how to eat at each stage. I wish you the best with your search for answers, you will find them.

Being Physical Challenging
mom2twins replied to Kat56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the others, doing a little bit each day will lead to doing more than you thought possible. I have went from full bedrest to up and moving with 2 babies to take care of in two days. At first it was just a challenge to get everyone in and out of the truck. Then we did a lap around the local grocery store (a/c and controlled weather). We work up to a lap around the mall, but it took a few months to get there. At first it was just a small walk around a small store. If you tell yourself you can do it, you are half way there. Good Luck! -
try the web site lapband.com because they have a surgeon locator you just put in your zip code and they show the ones closest to you. I do hope that you get better soon, with or without the band. Sherry

My stomach hurts when I eat.. is this normal?
mom2twins replied to CaliGirl626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some foods are harder to digest than others. Poultry and uncooked tomatoes are two that I have to watch for. You might have to cut them up smaller or shred them before you try to eat them to help stop the hurt. Best of luck with the band. -
What do you like in a support group?
mom2twins replied to Shinyhappymommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is great that you are starting this support group. Having a general guidline of topics to cover, but flexability to help other whith what is on their mind also. Since you have been there before everyone else you could share some of the good and bad times that you experienced. you could also have a swap for recipes that have worked at different stages of recovery starting with the liquid, mushies, and even the 5 day fill test (found that on this website). Also having your members choose if they want everyone to have there contact informaition or just the coordinator is important for some people. A printed list of web site that you have found helpful and a list of books that you or others have read are great for newly or prebanded members. Having a book exchange or lending box is good if you have a few books to put in to get it started. Since this is a new way of life for most of us we all need to learn from others that have been there. Good luck with your new group, Sherry -
