Did the sleeve help anyone with fertility?(esp 40 or over)
SassyBee53 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One of the main reasons I chose to have the sleeve was on recommendation from my OB-GYN. I have PCOS pretty bad, never wanted to do IVF because of $$ and also the hormones with PCOS are so bad I didn't know if I could stand more. My partner and I have not prevented pregnancy in over five years. I had an early miscarriage about 4 years ago, but nothing since then. I will be 40 when I hit one year post-sleeve and I'm a bit nervous that I'm too old. But at least I will (hopefully) be at a healthier weight by then and more able to have a healthy pregnancy. SO my question is , did the surgery help with fertility? Any older Mom's get pregnant after surgery? Was it a healthy pregnancy? -

I'm down a little more than 35 pounds. Trying to get in lots of protein, water, and vitamins. Exercise only walking at this point, because I still get really tired. I'm pretty strict following my plan. Dealing with some acid production at times, it doesn't burn, but it feels like bad hunger ache/pains. Still taking the prilosec once a day for it. Hope all the December sleevers are doing well. -

After surgery, I had bad gas pain from the laparoscopy. It goes away in a few days though. -

Congrats! I am now down almost 30 pounds since my sleeve on 12/30/19. The best feeling is fitting into smaller sizes, my clothes are getting so roomy. I also keep it under 800, typically eating about 650-700 calories per day. Trying to get more water in of course. -

As of today, I'm officially down 27 pounds. I'm still pureeing my proteins, have had trouble with fiber. My plan allows for applesauce (sugarfree) and sweet potatoes, so I'm hoping adding them into my diet will help. Been also having trouble getting enough water. I drink water and Propel now, so I think it's helping. I have eggs, chicken, cottage cheese, fat-free cheese, turkey, peas and sweet potato. I keep craving a juicy hamburger, sans bun, with swiss cheese, onions and mushrooms.... -

Thanks for your encouraging post. Sadly, I've tried all different BCP's, Natural Progesterone Cream, Metformin, Acupuncture....However I haven't taken Clomid due to my extra weight. I'm thinking I may give that a try once I'm down to 215/200 or 1 year post-op at least. I know that I sometimes ovulate, and my OB-GYN thinks I have had several chemical pregnancies. Gives me hope to know that others struggled and still got pregnant. Good luck with your pre-op, it took me a year to get the courage to make an appointment, and was approved in three months, but waited six due to work/grad school/time off etc. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster three weeks, but I'm down over 25 pounds so I can't complain. -

Yes, I'm well aware of that fact. Hence why I posed my initial question. -

Thanks, yeah I will search again and see what I can find. My Dr told me at least 12 months to wait. By then I will be 40, so that's why I was wondering. My OB-GYN is aware of my situation too and is willing to help me nutritionally etc. at that point. Because of my PCOS I react very poorly to hormonal Birth Control so that's not an option for me at this point. -
This is good to know! I don't have any cravings for sweets, or bread or junk foods. But I do have cravings for juicy steaks and roasted chicken...must be my body craving protein! Also broccoli, I can't wait for broccoli. I guess craving healthy foods is a good thing right? I'm just hoping that my stall will stop soon, so I know that I did the right thing with this surgery. Even though I know I did, it's just a new normal that's hard to get used too. This site has helped me so much. Good luck on your continuing journey!!

So glad to know I'm not alone! I'm going through this right now. I feel slimmer, but the scale hasn't moved. I'm doing the program, probably could drink more water than I am. I literally have been worrying thinking maybe due to my PCOS I'm going to be that person that loses only 25 pounds and that's it. Or else maybe my body is in starvation mode and doesn't know what to do. It's hard when I'm doing my best and really trying to not have that reward of a lower weight...I keep reminding myself it's my health I'm trying to get back, not my figure. Very mentally challenging at this point.

That's awesome! 31 pounds is great! I haven't weighed myself in a couple days, trying to not obsess LOL. I too have lost in my feet, but mostly in my arms and legs. I keep trying to get all my water in, but inevitably by bedtime, there's still more to drink!! I'm so sick of protein shakes. Keep up the good work! -

I didn't lose any weight pre-op though, so that's probably why those first 24 pounds came off so quick. I'm now at the point where I would get while dieting and could never get past. I'm hoping to lose about 5 more by the end of the month fingers crossed. I have heard that the more we need to lose the faster it goes off. -

Hi Everyone, Great to hear that I'm not alone! I was sleeved on 12/30/19. I have been down almost 25 pounds since last Thursday. I started puree stage then and since, then the scale has gone up a little then down. I know that my body is trying to adjust I'm sure. I am eating puree 3x a day, about 2 oz of cottage cheese with a little bit of peach puree, scrambled egg, chicken, a little spinach puree, and light soup. I am really struggling to getting more than 48 oz of water. Very tired of protein shakes, ugh and a wee bit of nausea now and again. Been walking around the block, doing light arm and leg exercises. My next Dr appt is in 3 months! He told me to start on regular food at week 4, no more puree. I eat slow and sometimes can feel it, other times I don't feel restriction at all, depending on the food. I'm so worried about stretching out my pouch! I am averaging about 500-600 calories per day. -
I know this thread is a bit older, but I think at 2.5 weeks I've hit my stall. Glad to read all these replies and know that I'm not going crazy. I was sleeved 12/30 and have since lost about 25 pounds. But the scale has not budged, even went up slightly(like a few ounces) and I'm feeling so discouraged. Trying so hard to get in all my protein and water every day, feeling sooo lethargic and just low energy. I have been walking and doing arm exercises, some leg exercises. Just trying to push through and hope that eventually I will feel normal. Sleep has been hard, my incisions are still healing, and I'm starting another grad school semester next week which is stressing me out a bit. I think I should just stop weighing myself for a bit.

This question is for the ladies 😊
SassyBee53 replied to Isabelmonster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Isabelmonster, I just had my surgery on Monday(also Dr. Gritsus!!) I am wondering the same question as you. I have PCOS and my gyno recommended the surgery to help with the PCOS and hopefully the heavy and painful menstrual cycles that I have. Just waiting now to find out if it will. 😊 -
Your post is so timely! I'm also from NJ and will be taking my 6 year old niece to Disney in May, she's also a SW's lover, but very into Elsa and Cinderella. I promised to take her this year and I am looking forward to being able to fit on the plane and on the rides. I just had my sleeve last Monday, so I'm hoping by the end of May I will be able to eat and maintain hydration. Reading your posts make me excited for my own trip...and hopeful. 😀 Hope your having fun and keep up the great and useful posts!!

Um, sorry but gas after surgery
SassyBee53 replied to brooksbrittanyanne's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm in the same boat currently. I've been walking as much as I can, literally laps around my dining table. Plus sleeping on my left side has helped, I still feel it, but not as bad as on Tuesday. Today was painful for other reasons, my incisions are healing and hurting...oof. -

Hi there, I'm new to this too, just got sleeved on 12/31! I would love to find a buddy to help me through. I don't know anyone else who has had surgery. Good luck on all of your weight loss!
