    January 2020 Surgery Folks

I'm tired of the shelter in place too, but I'm hanging in there. I went on a bike ride today and worked in the yard a bit. My weight loss has slowed down, but I'm definitely eating more. It seems that I'm hungry every 2-3 hours, but I'm eating healthy, so still losing. I'm so thankful we all got our surgery before this pandemic. I feel sorry for all the people who had their surgeries cancelled. That must have been such a let down.

I haven't had any problems with dehydration and I rarely get in 64 ounces a day anymore, but I try. Most days it's more like 48 ounces. Glad to hear the reflux is better. I only had a problem with reflux one time and it was when I ate some turkey sausage and sautéed cabbage (probably not a wise choice!) I was prescribed Prazolan twice a day by my surgeon in Mexico as a preventative, and I guess it's done the trick, except that one time. My friend who had gastric sleeve a few years ago suffered from reflux and tried everything, several different prescription meds, then finally, she tried plain old Pepcid AC and it worked for her! Best of luck with the gout and reflux!

I am OVER the protein drinks, but I do use a scoop or a half of scoop of Genepro protein powder everyday, either in a smoothy, or mixed in food like beans, cooked veggies, soup, or eggs. It's got 30 grams of protein and only 58 calories. Like you, I can't get in 60 grams of protein without a little help.

Good morning friends! My weight loss has slowed also, but I'm okay with that as long as I'm still losing. I weighed 209 this morning, so that makes 34 pounds since 1-27. Honestly, I'm eating pretty much what I want now, no junk, just eating healthy and I'm averaging 700-800 calories a day. Last night I had part of a burrito made with a low carb tortilla, lean homegrown ground beef, lettuce and tomato, and I admit, I did have 4 whole grain chips, so I guess the chips were junk, but before surgery I would have inhaled a bunch of chips and salsa. My energy level is back to normal and I think that has helped with exercise. I'm riding my bike when weather permits and doing yoga when the weather is yucky. I didn't measure before surgery, but I'm monitoring inches lost with how my clothes fit. Before surgery, size 18's were tight, and I had a few pairs of 20's. Now, all of my 16's fit, and even a few 14's, so I know I've lost a bunch of inches. I'm holding off on buying any new clothes because my closet has 3 sizes, although I had thrown away or given away most 14's, but I still have 2 pairs of jeans and one pair of black pants and I have lots of leggings that I can wear for a while. Oh, and I've had wine twice. I know, I know, I shouldn't have, but it was sure good and I only had a small glass of Cabernet each time. It did not make me really tipsy like most people experience. ?? We're still social distancing because of DH's health issues, but I have to go into to work a few days a week. Thinking of all of you during this difficult time and hoping everyone is still doing well with your weight loss. Let's don't this stressful time get us down!

Hi everyone! I'm doing okay, but I stalled for several days, then finally lost 1 pound this week. I can tolerate all foods now, even steak and salads, no problem. I'm feeling good. T-Bone (our dog) and I went on a 5 mile bike ride today and I have so much more energy than I did even a week ago. My husband has asthma and is 67 years old, so we are staying close to home. I still work, so my biggest fear is I will contract the virus and bring it home. We live in rural Arkansas, but even our church cancelled services for tomorrow. I admit, I'm scared because of hubby's health.

I was not a huge fish fan pre op and I'm still not, every once in a while, but not often. I am also eating boneless skinless chicken thighs, but haven't tried chicken breasts yet. All kinds of beans cooked in the crockpot have also been a staple. I tried some beef brisket, and it seemed okay, but it was pretty juicy. I plan to try hamburger next week.

Hi girls! I'm still doing good. Weight loss is about 1 pound every other day, instead of pound a day, but I'm A-okay with that. I've managed to up my calories and that seemed to get my weight loss moving again. I'm eating about 700-800 calories a day and feeling so much better as far as energy. I've lost 30 pounds in 38 days and I'm so thrilled. No problems with any foods so far, but haven't tried a salad yet.

Thanks, guys. I want to be thin YESTERDAY, so it's important that I set some reasonable goals because while this new tool certainly makes weight loss quicker, but it is not going to happen overnight, and I need to keep my "fat" brain on track.
  11. Holy smokes, you look great! So happy for you!

So, this morning I hopped on the scaled and I weighed 216! Thats's 27 pounds lost in 34 days and I'm absolutely thrilled. At my age (57), menopause, and a totally jacked-up metabolism from years of dieting, I was prepared for my weight loss to be much slower. I was told after the first month most people lose 8-10 pounds a month, so if I lose 8 a month I would be ecstatic! Also, the surgeon told me that losing slower is better for skin elasticity issues. I've decided to set mini goals. Do these goals sound reasonable? Do you have goals time wise to reach your final goal? April 1: 208 May 1: 200 June 1: 192 July 1: 184 Aug 1: 176 Sep. 1: 168 Oct 1: 160- GOAL!!!!

T-Bone went with me on a 5 mile bike ride today, so he's one tired pup! He's usually running around insisting that someone play catch with him, but not tonight. LOL! It was a beautiful day and I enjoyed my bike ride in the sunshine listening to some tunes.

    Gastric sleeve for BMI 30

It sure seems low to me, but only you can make that decision. 75-80% of your stomach will be permanently removed with gastric sleeve, so it's a big decision. Best of luck in deciding what is best for you!

That's a bummer. Maybe zap in the microwave halfway through your meal?? Sometimes I think something is wrong with me because I read about it taking people 30 minutes or an hour to eat 3-4 ounces and I can eat a meal in about 15 minutes with no issues. I am trying to eat slowly, but I need concentrate more on slowing down.

This is one egg , 1/2 Genepro protein powder, a handful of baby spinach, and a tbsp mozzarella cheese. The protein powder really fluffs up the egg. 148 calories and 25 g of protein. I ate it all except for a few bites.

    Where did you have surgery?

I had my surgery in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico because my insurance wouldn't cover it in the US. My BMI was 37 with zero health conditions (thank God). My PCP did not support weight loss surgery for me, so I didn't tell her when I decided to have the surgery. I know that might sound reckless, but believe me I did a lot of research. The after-care was my biggest concern, but I decided if my PCP wouldn't handle the after-care, I would change doctors and I had one selected recommended by a friend who had surgery in Mexico . I got home from Mexico on a Thursday and I had an appointment with my PCP on Monday and I broke the news to her about the surgery. Thankfully, she was willing to handle the after-care, no problem. My surgeon in Mexico sent me home with surgery notes for my PCP and a link to a video of my surgery. My experience with surgery in Puerto Vallarta was excellent. The hospital was new and modern and the care was outstanding. It's been a month now and I've had zero problems, no nausea, no acid reflux, and very little pain right after surgery, really more like discomfort when I stood up or sat down. It's a big decision, so I would suggest you do a lot of research and don't pick solely on price. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

This is a one egg omelette with 1/2 scoop of Genepro mixed in, a few slices of cooked yellow squash, and skim milk mozzarella cheese. (it kind of fell apart because I added too much water). It was good and I ate about 3/4 of it. It is 21g of protein and 166 calories, so a pretty good bang for my buck. I feel like I'm retaining some water, probably too much salt, so I'm going to concentrate on getting my water in the rest of the day.

Look at those sweet little faces, and those eyes, the one on the left has the poor pitiful look perfected! I can eat almost 4 ounces, no problem, and that is the max amount I'm supposed to eat. I wish I felt restriction at 2 or 3 ounces, but I don't. I'm going to work on stopping at 3 ounces and waiting. The last few days I've eaten almost 600 calories.
