My surgery is the 27th. When you guys say it is hard to sip the water do you mean because it is hard to swallow or hurts your throat, or stomach pain ect? Just trying to prepare myself!

I am going to tell my surgeon to take out anything he sees that is not healthy and could cause me to have to come back later! I really wish he could do a face lift too but wrong end!😂

Well I finally got approved after Cigna denied initially! I am sooo excited and nervous at the same time. I call tomorrow to get scheduled and if all goes well I will have my surgery February 24th! I went and bought my stuff to start my 2 week liquid PRE-OP diet tomorrow! I am literally eating everything this weekend I can knowing it will be a long time until I eat again and hopefully never a lot! I am grateful for this forum. I feel so much more educated than I would have been had I not been able to read everyone's experience. I will keep you updated going forward. It has been a little over 2 weeks since they denied and since then my physicians office did an appeal and a peer to peer, so I am thankful! I started the process in November(actually thought about it for a year)

I am so sorry you were denied. Hopefully with the peer to peer that will do it. It did for me. I am in Tennessee! I felt so hopeless when I seen denied but just try and be patient, because hopefully it will probably get approved in the end. It held mine up a little longer but it came through. I really think they deny people and hope you will just say well ok. You have to be willing to fight which I was. I met the requirements listed under my plan so i was not going to take no for an answer to easy!

I am actually scheduled the 27th. I was scheduled for the 24th but the surgeon called and ask if he could do mine robotically on the 27th, so I changed it!

Ok my surgery date is February 27th. I went today to get stuff for my hospital stay (pajamas, robe, shoes ect). Came home with nothing. I have real dilemmas here. I don't wear pj's at home just wear mostly oversized tees! I guess I am being OCD about this because I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that is not going to fit very long. I keep thinking do I need pajamas with a button up front? I also don't want anything hot like flannel, plush ect! I don't know what shoes to get. I usually just wear some very comfy flip flops (yellowbox) at home. I really don't know what to get!

Started mine (14 day) today! Ugh! Makes you start thinking about life afterwards and how you will never eat this, or that again! Just got to think about how I am going to feel afterwards as smaller and healthier! It really will be a new way of life. I know for me almost everything you do and celebrate is with food and drink.

I am feeling pretty hopeless right now because Cigna denied my precertification for surgery. I am so totally shocked. Even though I meet the requirements which is BMI 35-40, 1 Comorbidity, and a letter from my PCP they denied it. My BMI fluctuates between 35-39 and I have hypertension which is what they list as requirements. I got on chat with a Cigna rep who looked into why and it says not medically appropriate due BMI. I don't get it. I have left a message for the lady handling my insurance at the surgeon's office to see what I can do. I know I don't have as high of a BMI as some people but it did fall under their guidelines. I don't know how they could have denied it! Anyone with any ideas?

I realize that a lot of people have higher BMI's than me. I turned 60 this year which almost makes me feel if when the insurance receives these pre-certs if that plays into their decision. I feel my age might be used against me here but idk. The thing is both of my parents died in their 60's due to complications of diabetes. They both had heart disease and heart surgery. They had many different illnesses and I have been fortunate so far as far as that goes. I just want to make a positive change now before it is too late!

I am going to hopefully speak with them tomorrow! My Cigna plans requirements clearly state BMI of 35-40 and 1 or more comorbidities. When I did my surgical consult hos nurse said oh you will get approved so I was pretty hopeful until today!

Ok so all of my required documents for surgery precertification was received by Cigna according to their website on 1/13. I am so not a patient person. I keep pulling it up and it says in progress! I sure hope I hear soon!

I was denied! I just posted a little bit ago. I am very bummed out. Just found out today. They denied stating medical necessity not appropriate? I don't understand because I meet their requirement guidelines, so I will have to try and talk to the surgeon's office to see what I need to do!
