    I’m so nervous!

Congratulations on your date! Honestly, there was more discomfort than pain. The most pain I had was stomach cramping from gas, but the easiest way to get rid of that is to WALK WALK WALK. You will be uncomfortable, but you gotta. I didn't end up taking any pain meds at all besides what they gave me during surgery, but everyone is different. As for veggies, I wasn't either, but your taste buds DO change a little. Things you loved before you won't be able to stand, and you'll start craving more healthy foods. I'm eating more veggies now than I ever did before, and I actually enjoy the tastes of them now. However, you're gonna focus on protein for a while. My surgeon and dietitian has me on a 2:1 ratio. Twice the protein to the veggies, and I have to eat the protein first and then finish filling up on veggies. ❤️ Good luck with your surgery! ❤️

    VSG Friendly Snacks

I tried beef, but it makes me sick to my stomach unfortunately. It's why I do turkey sticks/jerky instead of beef. 😕 I use a lot of ground chicken and ground turkey, though. What kinds of fruits can you have? All they told me is that I can eat like... berries with no skin 6 months after surgery.

    2nd day post op

Water basically goes right through you, but food will sit on your stomach. Right now, it feels easier, but when you actually do get to eating food, you'll notice more. Also, that's FANTASTIC that you can get that much water in! But when you start eating, just eat slow, chew well, and you'll feel "full," and with restrictions. ❤️ Try not to worry about it too much. As for the air, try your best to walk as much as possible. The more walking you can do, the faster you'll get rid of that gas.

    Vitamin C question

Honestly, it depends. You should talk to your surgeon or dietitian. They would know best to be able to help you incorporate that back into your life.

    How do you take meds?

I started mine two weeks in. I split them up throughout the day... antacid, stool softener, and b50 (because it gives energy) in the morning; calcium and fish oil with lunch; multivitamin and calcium with dinner; and calcium, probiotic, allergy med, and stool softener at night. You learn to deal with it. Yea, it's a lot, but I treat it as if it's a small snack and give it 15-30 minutes before I start drinking water again, or sometimes, I'll take a small sip and then eat my meals (lunch and dinner).

    Surgeon says NO gummies

I think it's because normally, those tend to have sugar in them compared to the bariatric vitamins, which are chewable, pills, or liquid. Which is a bummer because I miss gummy melatonin lol

6 Days Post Op and 1 Primary Question

Congrats on your surgery. ❤️ You're holding onto water right now- are you weighing yourself every day? If so, you really should try just once a week. If you obsess over numbers, you can make yourself sick. You're going through a tough time, but it gets easier as you go. Just hang in there and keep drinking your fluids. You'll start losing again. Also, take photos. It really helps me when I get stuck on a weight occasionally- I have photos from pre-op and will take a post op photo and SEE the difference. Sometimes, it's not always what the scale says.
  8. Binge eating is the reason I got to my highest weight of 315.4lbs, and it was all emotional. I ate because it was what made me feel better no matter what- I was mad, I ate. Sad? Food. Bored? Food. Even happy, you celebrated with food. Now that I've had VSG... I have no binge eating. My head is trying to convince me, but I have been journaling and going to therapy to help with that. It's helping, but it's feeling like it's not enough. I am hanging in there the best I can- I am practicing calligraphy, cross stitching, knitting, going for long walks (can't exercise fully yet), playing video games, etc., but I'm still coming up with the head thoughts of "YOU NEED TO EAT WE NEED FOOD FOOD FOOD." It's hard and I've got a good support system, but your head can be your own worst enemy. What do you guys do to distract yourselves? How do you handle your emotions when they fluctuate? My emotional state has been varied, but it is getting a little worse as I go.

5 days pre op and suddenly woke up with monthly friend

Yeeeep. I hadn't had one in almost three YEARS, and literally a week after surgery, lo and behold, she rears her ugly head. I haven't had another since then, yet, but I feel like I'll start to regulate the more weight I lose.
  10. I don't obsess about it, but I do try to keep to healthier foods just so I don't go down the "bad food" road again. My dietitian wanted me as close to ketosis as possible, but with my gallbladder out, it's *really* hard for me to do a true keto style diet. I eat a lot of lean meats, cheese, and veggies, but I also eat healthy carbs (mostly because I need fiber and fiber has carbs, boo). It's just low carb tends to be an easy way to lose weight and not do the random sugar spikes that make you hungry again quickly.
  11. Sooooo... I normally have fairly dry skin, but ever since surgery, it's been ridiculous! I have to smother myself in lotion like three times a day now (I use gold bond eczema cream), but I will have scaly skin again after like... an hour. Is this normal? I take biotin with my multivitamin. If it is normal, how long does it last? Or does it never go away?
  12. I do turkey burger and break it up it into 6-8 portions, I do chicken burger and smash it down into a pizza crust to do little pizzas, jimmy dean turkey sausages, and I even found that crab meat has been really nice. Most ground meats (specifically turkey) is easily freezable and versatile. I'm sorry your family is doing that to you. Mine keeps forgetting and doing the same thing, so it's hard when I go into the cabinet and see all their yummy stuff. One of my favorite go-tos lately has been laughing cow cheese spread onto deli turkey (I found boar's head cajun turkey to be the tastiest for me) and it's good protein for everything. Good luck, hon. ❤️ You're doing great.
  13. @looly Not removal of pain- I ate something that was too fatty and it not only hurt, but it caused some unpleasant consequences bathroom-wise. I have to stick to low fat now so I don't get what I have dubbed "grease butt." lol
  14. So my gallbladder went out on me about two weeks after I had my sleeve, and I had it removed a month after my sleeve. I had stalled out completely on weight loss (To be fair, I was vomiting and not eating for almost two weeks while waiting to have my gallbladder out), but now I'm zooming along (though I hit an actual stall this week from no exercising- been recovering from surgery again. I'm looking forward to being able to exercise more than just walking soon!!!). I have to eat low fat stuff now, so I am less likely to eat things that are worse for me. Honestly, I feel better than I have in months now that it's gone, and I am still losing pretty normally. Just hang in there. ❤️

    Shoulder pain

It could be gas pain, too. Try walking as much as possible to disperse it, and maybe if you can, have someone gently pound on your back to help break it up. I had it pretty bad for 4-5 days after surgery. If it's a muscle, warm compress will make things nicer and soothe it.

I use a Ninja. Got it from Amazon on sale for $65. Works really well and came with two bottles.

    Struggling with preop diet

It's all about willpower. I got through it (and the food my roommates had) by looking up bariatric recipes for similar items that I could have once I had my surgery. Looking at all the good food I'd be able to have once I was done helped me through it. It's tough, but you've got this. I went to bed early and woke up late, started "eating" as late as possible, and was able to make it to bed not hungry. In eight days, you'll be on your way to a new you. Just hang in there, and you can do it. ❤️

    Pre-OP diet ugh!

One mistake will not mess you up, but try not to make it a habit. Almost everyone messes up at least once, and it's not an end all. And of course it's gonna be watery- you're not putting in a lot of mass food-wise. You'll have some pieces and parts (tmi, I know), but it's mostly gonna be water for a while. Same thing will happen right after surgery until you're eating solids again, in which case, stool softener is your BEST FRIEND. Pre-op diet is legitimately the hardest part. You're almost done with it- you can get through it. You just gotta hang in there. Once you're done with your surgery and on your way to healing, you'll see how strong you were to keep going and that the hard part is over. ❤️ Congratulations and good luck!

Nauseous 5 weeks post op help!

I was doing fine for about two weeks before I started getting nauseated constantly, but that was because my gallbladder was going out. I would talk to your doctor or surgeon just to make sure everything is okay.

    PreOp telling the fam

It's hard when family isn't supportive. I kept told a select few family members of mine to see how they would react, and I got the same results: "It's too dangerous," "that's the easy way," "why don't you just try diet and exercise?" It's frustrating and hard, but in the end, it's up to you, not them. You're the one who's health is at stake. You're the one putting in the hard work. Try not to beat yourself up, and just keep trucking forward. You're on your way to making an extremely good decision for your health and that is what matters. I hope things go well for you, and good luck on your May date! ❤️

    Struggling with preop diet

Something my nutritionist suggested to me was waiting as long as I could to eat breakfast. It's easier to ignore hunger in the morning than it is to ignore at night when you've got nothing to do. You just go as long as you can until you can't, and then just keep on trucking as best you can. You got this- you'll get through it. The pre-surgery diet is honestly the hardest part of the whole process. Hang in there.

    Digestion noise

I just argue with mine now. I call her Claire on good days, and Karen on the days she decides to hate everything. It's like working retail; there is always a problem and Karen is gonna MAKE A FUSS ABOUT IT. Claire usually just thanks me for food with happy rumblies lol.
  23. My therapist and I are working on coping mechanisms that I can use to both distract myself and use to replace the mental things that my brain tries to do to me. It's just nice to know that I'm not alone, ya know? Journaling has been the best thing for me since starting all this... writing down and getting those "demons" personified so I have something to basically wanna punch when I can exercise again lol. I'm also looking into some of those books, @PollyEster They seemed pretty interesting from the previews I read. And @AJ Tylo, it's been great getting out and wandering. I was cooped up in the house so long recovering from my complications and gallbladder surgery that I forgot how nice it is just to pace around a grocery store. That was a great idea. ❤️
