Anyone try Jarros Gentle Fibers? Two tablespoons is 9g of fiber! And it's soluble and insoluble fiber...not like Metamucil and the others that shouldn't be an everyday thing. But adding it to a bottle of water is NASTY. Gritty and weird. But it's keeping me regular again! Curious to know if anyone has a better way to sneak it in my meals where it doesn't go down so unpleasantly.

I know right where you're at! Soups are your best friend right now. Protein shakes will supplement your daily requirement. I was SO SICK of bone broth from the pre surgery diet, but I was chugging down all the other soups and loving it. By week 2 or 3 I was on soft foods and I was off and running.

I went in with the mindset that my "new stomach" will come with special instructions which I will follow to the letter. This is my easy excuse to get out of peer pressure situations when drinks and treats are going around. Sure I have a bad day here and there, it happens to all of us. I try to keep the mistakes small. Whenever I feel that I'm about to go astray, I tell myself that I didn't have this surgery only to revert back to my old habits once again. I reflect on my recent accomplishments and all is well!

I was strictly on clear liquids for the first week. I had to use laxatives for the first couple weeks every few days to keep things going. I was given a script at the hospital. Now I use a product called Jarrows Gentle Fibers that I add to a morning protein smoothie to keep myself naturally regular without popping laxatives. There are also low-cal/low-carb wraps that you can find at the stores that contain decent amounts of fiber in them. Week 2 or 3 they put me on soft foods, until 3 months post surgery. Then I can transition to regular foods (I kinda am already....just using a food processor when needed). But I micromanage the hell outta my diet with the baritastic app.

Surgery this month, wife threatening divorce
mike2019 replied to Xx1jpt5xx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My wife wasn't supportive of me having WLS surgery either in the early rounds, but she warmed up to it. She was scared of losing her bad-habit-eating buddy. Now, believe it or not, she enjoys many of the leaner meals I cook up for us. And of course she is loving a leaner husband! -
I got a giant container of unflavored protein powder, so I don't have to keep buying cases of the Premier liquid. Still learning how to add that to a good bariatric recipe. But it's always handy to have the liquid ones, when I don't have time to make something.

Good news for you the hard part is over. First night is uncomfortable. I had that too. I was getting dilaudid along with steady doses of pain pills first night. I didn't get much sleep that night due to waking up for more pain meds. Next day nurse took me for a slow paced half lap around the ward. Felt so good to move a little we did another full lap. I was ancy to get dressed and go home after that! Once I was home, pain was easily managed by scheduled doses of pain meds. By Day 4, I only took them when I felt pain coming back. Make sure you have at least 4-5 days of pain meds when you get discharged and MAKE THEM LAST. You may or may not need them all. I was pain pill free before end of first week.

You may have some gas in your body from the surgery that gives mild discomfort, but no worries it is gone by day 2 or 3. Short walks and moving around helped me get it all out. I was completely off pain meds before 1st week was over.

Recurring Hunger (2 Weeks Post-Op)?
mike2019 replied to justsleeveeverythingtome's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your doctor may or may not prescribe you topiramate, an appetite suppressant once on solid foods. -
Be calm going in surgery day and next thing you know you'll be resting in the recovery room. They'll keep you nice and numbed up the first night, and you'll be home before you know it, eager to work the new diet.

Try the peanut powders. They can add some tasty flavor to a boring protein drink too.

How much soup is too much soup...?
mike2019 replied to justsleeveeverythingtome's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I was on the liquid stage, I could finish an entire small Campbells 5oz can, which comes out to 10oz when adding the can of water/milk. I'd be able to finish it all before it got cold. I'm now measuring/weighing everything on soft foods….that and getting at least 64oz of water daily I'm fortunately having zero cravings to snack. On liquids, I'd down a tomato soup in a tall coffee mug. -
It's a little refreshing to me. I used to get hot all the time. Winter I'd have the house in the 60s, now I bump it up to 70 and still get cold.

Curious if anyone has experienced left shoulder pain post op? Most of the time no pain at all, but sometimes I get this dull pain right on my left shoulder that lingers for several minutes. No numbness or tingling, nor is my heart feeling weird. And I haven't done anything extreme with left arm either. Is this a common thing if I miss on some nutrients or something?
-
So if I have a collection gas rising to my shoulder, that could give a false signal that my shoulder is hurting? I guess if it's putting pressure on nerves. That's good to know about the cold compress!

I'm good with no acid reflux from V8, but my doc has me on an antacid.

It's been 2wks since my surgery, so my dietician started me of soft foods today and for next 2.5mos. I soft scrambled an egg for lunch. Added just a touch of lowrys and black pepper. It was so good I got it down in less than 10min. Had that with a stick of mozz string cheese. Felt okay afterward too. Dinner I had 2.5oz of teriyaki flavored soft chicken and 4 wheat thins. I feel a little discomfort, likely the wheat thins. Swore I chewed them pretty well. I'd really like to scramble 2 eggs for breakfast tomorrow, and eat what I can. I just want to be really mindful of meal weight or volume so I don't exceed what's allowed, and stretch my stomach.

foods i picked up last night include lowfat deli sliced chicken, turkey, 3oz containers of tuna and albacore, refried beans, green beans, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cottage cheese, skim milk. Also have some no sugar added applesauce if room for fruit.
-
Yesterday it was an egg for lunch, and soft chicken with 4 low sodium wheat thins and lowfat string cheese fordinner. After the discomfort I'm holding off the crackers for now. Today I had 2 soft scrambled eggs w/ cheese for breakfast. Went down easy. Lunch was a street taco sized corn tortilla w/ soft deli turkey, a pinch of lowfat shredded cheese and light mayo. Followed by a low sodium mini V8 juice about 45min later. Feeling good! Plus, my weight finally dropped a couple pounds again. I'll probably have a greek yogurt or a partial container of premier protein for an afternoon snack to get more protein in before dinner.

Foods you can no longer tolerate
mike2019 replied to MrsRobinson4411's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your sleeve was literally one day before me. I have noticed a big slowdown in loss over the last week. I read how stalls are normal, just stick to the plan....but wondering if you've noticed a slowdown in this timeframe too. My caloric intake is now 6-800 per day too. That may play a factor too I guess, coming off liquid diet. -
I will try them! I focus on protein first and don't want to fall out of that habit.
-
I have some lean turkey and chicken buddig meat to try. Also got some 3oz portion cans of tuna...(definitely without the crackers for a while), but it was on my allowed list along with corn tortilla. Got some street taco sized mini ones I may try a piece of one with some refried beans.
