Hi Janet, Congratulations on making the big decision. My surgery date was June 24th and have been doing fine since. Hang in there with the Optifast, it will be over before you know it. I was also scared but they are really great at Maples and help you with that. Keep us posted and feel free to ask any questions.

Hi Doddie, Yes, I am seeing my doctor on Wed. Thanks for the concern. Last night was a little bit better, but as soon as I woke up it started again. I don't think the cough is related to the surgery at all. I haven't had a cold or cough for a year, of course it had to come now.

Hi there, I started a new group on yahoo called Manitobalapbanders. This group is meant to give members a forum to have questions and concerns addressed, give support when needed and meet new people with a common goal, weight loss via the LAP-BAND. I know there are alot of forums for the Lap Band but I wanted to start a group that was more specific Manitobans, to all patients that were banded at the same location and treated by the same doctors. I'm doing ok but still have a bad cough. Talked to Jen on Friday as I was worried about the coughing. She just said to try and hold my stomach and if I get any unusual pain to page one of the doctors. I am getting worried because I don't really feel restricted anymore. I have tried solid foods and have had no restrictions. My first fill is not until Aug.1.

They usually give you 2 boxes of chocolate and one of the vanilla, why don't you ask if they can give you just the chocolate? What time where you and Maples yesterday as I was there getting my staples out? Probably seen you and didn't even know it!! My appointment was for 3 pm and I had both my girls with me, one teenager and one toddler.

Had my follow up appointment today and staples removed. AHHHH does that feel better. Everything healed up nicely. I was ready to pull them out myself. It pinched a little to have them removed but it was done quickly. My next appointment will be in 4 weeks for a fill. So far I am still losing, I find that some days I am hungrier then others but manage to make it through the day. How is the first day of Optifast going?

Hi there, I was banded 13 days ago and also on liquids but feel like I can eat more. I was very hungry on Saturday and had a few crackers, I chewed them very well and it helped. I know that's a no no but I was so hungry. I'm basically having the same as you are soup and yogourt. Tomorrow is when I can start having other things like cottage cheese, soft fruit and soft veggies. Maybe that will be better. I will also be seing the doctor tomorrow to get the staples out, can't wait for that. They are so irritating.

Hi Simba, you should do ok on the Optifast, some days are harder than others but I got through it. It was especially hard for me in the evening so I would sip on coffee with a little bit of skim milk. I'm still a little bit under the weather but it is mostly because of my cold. Since my surgery I haven't been hungry or very interested in eating except for yesterday I was so hungry. I know I shouldn't have but a had a few crackers and chewed them very well. Keep in touch and let me know how the Optifast is going once started. I didn't care too much for the Vanilla so I would have 2 Chocolate and 1 Vanilla a day. Talk to you soon.

Was banded on June 24th, had 2 weeks of preop diet and now down 21 lbs. YAHOOOO!

They do however need to create a support group. I have a follow up appointment on July 8th and that is one of the issues that I will bring up. Hopefully with the help of others they will get something going. They were however able to answer my questions when I called or find someone else who would call me back.

Hi Doddie, Thanks, I hadn't heard about the coughing but if it helps that good because I've done my share of coughing in the last couple of days.

I made it!!! It has now been 1 week and 1 day since my banding. I feel pretty good except for this awful cold that I have, hurts alot when I cough but so far no complications from the surgery and taking it one day at a time.

Finally, started my Optifast this morning for the next 2 weeks and will be banded on June 24th. :thumbup:

Hi everyone, I was banded on June 24th at Maple Surgical Centre, still recovering. I would have been feeling much better but came down with a terrible cold on Sunday. It hurts alot when I cough. They were very helpful at the centre and the nurse will also call you a few days later to make sure everything is going ok and to see if you have any questions. I will be going for a follow up appointment on July 8th. Let me know if I can help in any way.

I had 2 hot cups of coffee like you suggested. That helped, thanks. I am already down 7 lbs!!! Is that normal?? Oh yeah, the cottage cheese sounded good but I don't think I could handle that for 30 days, YIKES!! The Optifast is good I mix it with ice in the blender and voila a delicious chocolat smoothie!! I always look forward to the next one!

Cottage Cheese and yogourt!!! Would I love to have that right now!! All I can have is 3 Optifast Shakes and 2 cups of veggies a day.

Thanks doddie, Right now I'm on day 4 of the optifast and feel like I can chew my arm off. It's especially hard in the evening.

Thanks for the info, I will definately get back to you when I submit my receipts to them which should be at the end of June.

How much does the surgery cost out there?

How come you only claimed $6845? Is that all the surgery cost for you?

Just wondering how things have been going since you have been banded.
