  1. Thanks so much for the info!!! I'm freaking out that I may loose a lot of hair. I have thinner hair to begin with so I'm gonna do whatever I can to hopefully prevent it, or at least keep it to a minimum...
  2. I'll be six weeks out next Monday. The first few weeks do suck. I never got even close to my daily protein and fluids for several weeks. I tried so many different things and just felt like nothing tasted good!! One way that I get about half of my daily protein is to make a smoothie for breakfast. I mix 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries, a scoop of unflavored protein powder (I like the genepro), a couple of dollops of strawberry cheesecake greek yogurt, 2/3 cup of the fairlife milk and a little zero calorie sweetener. I have a Ninja blender and that really works great! f you can tolerate a smoothie at this point that might help with the protein and also add to your daily fluids! I also added the unflavored protein powder to things like broth, cream of chicken broth, no sugar added hot chocolate, sugar free chocolate pudding, etc. I know bone broth has a good amount of protein if you like that. Not eating with your family is really hard. I just keep telling myself that this is not forever and things will be better soon!! Loosing my extra weight is motivation for me!! The hives could be from stress to tell you the truth! My daughter gets hives when she is REALLY stressed. The dr told her to take pepcid. Works like a charm! Keep drinking what ever tastes good to u and know that things will turn around soon!!! Oh, sugar free popsicles and no sugar added fudge bars are really good too!!! You can do this!!!!!
  3. Hi there:) Could you tell me the name of the Rx shampoo that your PCP prescribed to you?? I already have fairly thin hair and would love to bring this up to my PCP so that I may be able to help prevent too much loss. I am actually going for an appt this coming Monday to see him. Thanks!!

    6 weeks po

That seems right on track to me!! Did you notice any stalls during the past 6 weeks? Just keep going! You're doing great!!

    6 weeks po

what was your starting weight? I am 5 weeks out VSG. I lost 10 lbs during the 2 weeks before surgery and have lost an additional 21 lbs since surgery. I feel like I am on the right track but have had a few small stalls...??? maybe update your profile so others can see your information about starting weight, current weight, surgery type, etc. My surgeon told me I should be loosing around 0.5 lbs per day for the first 3 months. I think 29lbs is great!!!
  6. My surgeon participates in an enhanced recovery program at the hospital that I had my surgery at. They automatically give Zofran (for nausea) along with other meds like Tramadol for pain so I didn't have much nausea at all. I did have a fair amount of gas pain from the CO2 gas that they use to inflate your abdomen with during the surgery. Not everyone has this though. I got a couple of doses of Dilaudid and that helped a lot! They will have you walk a lot after surgery which also helps with the gas. Good Luck tomorrow!! You got this!!!!
  7. I'm 5 weeks post op today and having similar issues..I tend to choose puree or liquid things because I know that I can eat them with relatively little problem. I went to Olive Garden with my sister and daughter yesterday and had soup and 1 meatball. I wish I could take home a pound of those meatballs! lol!! they were very soft and very easy to get down! I only ate half of the meatball and half of the soup and was full. I have found in the last week that chicken is still not good as it is too dry. Currently looking up recipes for soft meatballs, etc. Maybe focusing on different ground meats made into a soft meatball might be good?? I also make a protein shake in the morning that has around 35-40 gm of protein so that definitely helps me to get in a good amount of my protein for the day!!
  8. I have a great recipe for a low carb crust that has almond flour, mozzarella cheese, cream cheese and egg. You bake the crust first then put cooked toppings on after and broil for a few minutes. The crust is rolled out real thin and is very soft after all of your toppings are on it. My family LOVES it and we hardly ever have regular pizza anymore! Let me know if you are interested! I had a piece last night and I’m around 1 month out (allowed soft foods) and it went down very easily with a little extra sauce. We also use Turkey sausage so I think that helped too:))

    Unflavored Protein Powder

I’ve been using the genepro and seems to mix well in most things. No taste also:)
  10. Hey all, I am coming up on 3 weeks post op VSG next Monday. I was allowed to start soft foods such as ground meet/canned chicken, etc. today. After looking through my post op binder, I was wondering if any of you received any sort of calorie limit for when you start more solid foods? The info in my binder mainly talks about protein and fluid daily amounts. I just want to make sure that the foods that I am choosing are not exceeding a certain calorie limit?? Does that make sense? I can give an example of the things that I ate today and calorie/protein total to see what you all think?? Breakfast-small homemade strawberry protein smoothie 165 calories, 37 g protein morning snack-cup of lipton cream of chicken soup 60 calories 2g protein lunch-about 2 oz of light and fit yogurt 20 calories 3g protein, a very small portion of cream of potato soup with protein powder 90 calories 13g protein. I ate an early lunch and could only eat a little bit and felt nauseated so I came back about an hour and a half later and had a small portion of sugar free chocolate pudding 30 calories and a couple of bites of chicken salad 20 calories 2g protein Dinner-1 beef/pork Italian meatball with a small amount of mozzarella cheese on it and marinara sauce 145 calories 14g protein and 1/4 c of homemade unsweetened applesauce 20 calories I drank approximately 50 oz of calorie free fluids throughout the day as well. so about 580 calories and around 70g protein. I know it seems like a weird choices of foods...does this seem normal????? I just want to make sure that my choices seem ok and that I am not going over in calories. I'm getting enough protein everyday along with my fluids. Sorry for the long post!! Just wanted to see what you all think! Thanks!!!!
  11. Awesome, thanks guys!!! Want to make sure I’m on track!!!!❤️

Thanks for the responses everyone! I figured I’d be starving and want to eat everything! Not! Everything I eat tastes gross and I have no appetite! Hopefully it will get better soon!! 🤞

    Anyone for Jan/ Feb 2021

surgery date is 1/18, start pre-op diet on Monday, 1/4...very nervous about the diet. Have been having a food funeral this past week...lol..worried that I will be very hangry during the next two weeks. I am a nurse and work in a very busy surgical unit. Worried that I will be so hungry!! Dietitian said first 3-4 days will suck..Ready to get this party started and get to a new thinner and healthier me!! Good luck everyone with their upcoming surgeries!!
  15. So i have a quick question about the drinking rule. What if you are eating something really spicy or hot and need to take a tiny sip of something? Is that totally forbidden??? Thanks!!

    Alarming Hairloss

what kind of powder? I looked up cologne and couldn't find anything like that?
  17. Hello Everyone! I am waiting for Insurance approval and then I will be scheduling my Gastric Sleeve surgery, hopefully end of September. I currently have some GERD. Some days better than others. I was told when I had my EGD that I have a sliding Hiatal Hernia. I really really don't want to have Gastric Bypass. I know when you have the sleeve you can have more issues with GERD. I have also read that some people have relief from their GERD after sleeve surgery and having their Hiatal Hernia repaired. Can anyone comment on this? Getting nervous!!! Thanks!!!

    Alarming Hairloss

I also have thin hair, especially on the top! The thought of loosing any more hair scares me to death, but I want this surgery so bad! Im afraid I will look ridiculous if I have a lot on the top fall out. Ughhhhh.....
  19. So I am seriously considering having gastric sleeve surgery but I'm afraid of what I can eat post surgery. I am not a vegetable eater( I can eat lettuce and maybe raw carrots, that's it...). I'm afraid that this might hinder my success. Anyone out there in the same boat? Have you been successful? Just wondering what others think:) Thanks!!

    Vegetable Hater

Thanks for the advise everyone. I have an appt after the first of the year. I had originally planned to have surgery last spring/summer, but chickened out. I'm just afraid that once it's done, I'll regret it. There's no going back. Super scary!!! So many different things to consider. I'm worried that I will have cravings for the bad foods because that's what I want to eat all the time now!! lol!! But I just feel like such crap. No energy, short of breath, joint and muscle aches, etc. I'm a nurse and some of the people I work with have discouraged me from having the surgery. They say you shouldn't change your body permanently, it will cause problems. Some of my close friends feel the same. I have had a few surgeries in the past and have had weird complications, nothing super serious, just weird. I work with a girl that had this surgery and she is doing great, bumps along the way, but great!! Sorry for the long rant!! I know you all can relate and understand! Thanks again!!
