    Caffeine?

My program advised no caffeine for at least the first 6 months after surgery. But I missed it too much, and drank a cup of coffee about 10 days after my RNY (12/12/19). I suffered no negative effects at all from it. At my 2-week post-surgery appointment, I told the dietician that, and she said, yeah, we recommend no caffeine for 6 months because SOME people can't tolerate it until their system is completely healed and stabilized in their "new normal." But she said some people are OK right off the bat, and if I was one of those, go ahead and have caffeine. So I have been drinking caffeine for about 4 weeks now, no problem -- 1-2 cups of coffee each day, and at least 1 20 oz diet soda a day, too.
  2. I had my RNY on 12/12, so I'm almost exactly 30 days out. I'm down 24 lbs. since then. I have had it easier than a lot of people -- great energy; no problem drinking fluids (it's just like it was before surgery); no digestive issues that I didn't already have earlier. It's great! With my doctor's and dietician's consent I was able to move to "soft" foods after only 18 days, I was doing so well, and currently am able to eat everything (as long as I chew it very well) except steak and firm vegetables. My portions are still well-controlled, though. I was even able to resume caffeine with no side-effects. The doctor said I am one of the lucky ones!

    December Surgeries!

I had my RNY on 12/12. I've been absolutely fine -- 100% -- since around the 25th. I'm down 17 lbs. in 21 days now.
  4. Hi everyone. I had my bypass operation on Dec. 12, 4 days ago. Everything is going pretty much better than expected -- soreness is manageable and diminishing, no problem drinking everything I need to drink or taking all of my pills, etc. But here's my weird issue -- as of today, I have GAINED 9 POUNDS on the scale since the morning before my surgery. I figured it was just post-surgery fluid retention, or getting loaded up with IV fluids while in the hospital, but my doctor's office seems absolutely stumped. Has anyone else had an experience like this? If you have, when will it go away?
