  1. Hi! I have about 7.5 cc's in my 10 cc band and still have VERY LITTLE restriction! I don't understand. Could there be something wrong with my band? I haven't had ANY complications at all. I had the band put in last September but have only managed to lose 40 lbs. He takes the fluid out and measures each time I get a fill so it's in there. I'm not sure what to do/think. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!
  2. I am 15 days post op and I am having the HARDEST time trying not to drink while I eat (especially if I'm eating anything starchy). I make myself do it, but then about 30 minutes after I eat I can drink a gallon! Why is it again that we shouldn't drink and eat?? This so far has been the hardest thing for me.
  3. I'm excited for you! I hope you have a good experience with it all....you'll have to keep me updated! I felt the same way about the saggy skin issue!

Hey, what part of Cali are you from? I've visited there a few times. My aunt used to live in the Bay area in Oakley - not Oakland.

  4. Hi Lisa! I'm Missy, 30 and single from Tennessee. I don't have children either unless you count my 2 dogs! I had surgery on September 2nd. So far the experience has been great....no complications or anything! My weight loss has been slow but steady (down 24 lbs) and I'm ok with that! You can yell at me anytime!!
  5. Hi there! I had my first fill week before last and everything went A-Ok. Since it was my first, they actually did it at the hospital in the GI lab under fluoro (sp?). My surgeon came in and done it for me. He was right on time which was excellent. He numbed the area, told me to elevate my legs slightly so he could find my port and he did on first try. Then he'd give me a little bit and then let me drink a sip of barium so he could watch and check everything out. I ended up w/ 3.5 cc's, it was totally painless, and it was cool because he let me watch everything on the screen (I like stuff like that)! I was in and out in like 30 minutes and then went back to work. No complaints at all! I've had a REALLY good experience so far with everything! I feel very lucky!
  6. At this point I get pretty excited about the thoughts of ANYTHING I can chew!! Ha, ha.....
  7. I didn't even think about Spam....I actually even like it cooked certain ways! Good deal! Thanks for all the info!
  8. I am too in the mushie phase and I've been eating all of the above except for the hamburger (I didn't know I could have that, but I'm glad to hear it!). I've also been eating baked potatoes and chili. I am sooooo ready for some solid food! This weekend I can start introducing some. Restlessmonkey, have you started on solids? What do you recommend starting with? I've been really craving some grilled chicken! LOL
  9. Ok, so when my insurance approved my surgery at the end of July my surgeon said I had to be off of my birth control for 30 days before I could have my band put in. I am assuming that has something to do with fear of blood clotting or something. The problem is that I have been sooooo moody the past couple of weeks! :cursing: I've been so ill AND....I've been starving, which has REALLY screwed up my pre-op diet! Has anyone had this experience and does anyone know when/if I can start back after surgery? Thanks

    5 days to go!

I am also having mine done on the 2nd! Good luck to all of us!!
  11. Hello lapband friends! 4-wheeling (actual ATV's, not in a jeep or anything) is one of my hobbies. I hadn't thought about it until recently, but will I still be able to go? Normally....we ride kind of rough terrain, so I get bounced around quite a bit. I was just wandering if this would be harmful. Would it bounce my band loose or anything? Anyone know personally? Any info / experience sharing would help. Thanks so much!
  12. MeMommie, Apparently not a 2 week. I have to go see the surgeon on the 28th and I'm thinking he may put me on one then. I hope not! But he may very well since I haven't been successful in losing the 10 lbs he wanted me to. I will let you know what he says.

4-Wheeling after the band? Weird question...

Ok. I think I can do that! Thanks again!

4-Wheeling after the band? Weird question...

Great...thanks Susan! How long should it take for me to fully recover enough to try it out?
  15. Hi there! I am being banded in September too! September 2nd FINALLY!!! I've been working on this process for nearly a year now. That time seemed to take forever...but since I've had an actual date it seems to be rapidly approaching! I'm nervous but excited! We should keep up with each others progress! Good luck!!

    Mrs. Pac-Man syndrome???

Restlessmonkey....I just seen your post right after I posted!! I guess that helps answer my question. I will try harder to loose a few pounds before next week!! Thanks for sharing!!

    Mrs. Pac-Man syndrome???

WOW....me too! My surgery date is September 2nd and ever since they gave me an actual date I've had the same thoughts! I feel like I need to eat EVERYTHING like I'll never be able to eat it again or something! I thought I was falling apart or something. It's so comforting to know I'm not alone. I REALLY am thankful for the support on this site! I know we will all be fine in the long run, but does anyone know the consequences of not losing the pre-surgery weight your surgeon suggests? Mine wanted me to lose 10 lbs but it isn't looking like that will happen before I go see him next week. Do you think they will postpone the surgery because of it? I hope not!!
  18. Hi! I finally have a surgery date! It is September 2nd and it will be here before you know it. I've been to the nutrition class but can anyone share some of the "must have" items you needed after surgery? What in the world did you eat/drink those first few days. The nutritionist recommended Isopure because of the protein content, but it looked as thick as molasses! Any ideas would help! Thanks so much for all of your support over the past few months!

    Post-Op must haves....

Awesome! Thanks for the replies....i'm making my shopping list!
  20. Hi everybody! I'm new to this site as of today, but for the past few weeks I've been finding out all kinds of valuable info here. Thanks! I haven't been banded yet but have been working w/ my primary since January trying to get things together for the insurance company. I have friends that have had bypass but don't know anyone personally that has been banded. Does anyone know of a good surgeon in East Tennessee? I've found a few that my insurance covers but don't have much info on any of them.
  21. Thanks so much! I think this site is soooooo great! It's the best I have found for info and support! Thanks again!)
  22. I'm not speaking from personal experience, but I have heard and read that you can have children w/ the band. I have not been banded yet, but have started this journey. I also plan on children someday and that's one of the main reasons I was leaning more toward the band vs bypass. I think they just loosen it up a bit. Try putting "pregnancy" in the search field on this website and it may bring up some threads.
  23. Thanks everyone for all your info! Ponce was my first choice but my insurance doesn't cover him or anyone in his group apparently! Bummer.... So I now have an appointment with Dr. Rutledge in Chattanooga on July 10th. I know some people who have used him for bypass but not the band. If I decide he isn't going to work out I have chosen Dr. Colquitt in Maryville for my second option. I've been on this journey since October and now that it's getting closer i'm really getting nervous!!! Did any of you get cold feet at this point??
  24. Has anyone used Dr. Rutledge in Chattanooga? He was recommended by a few people I know who have had bypass surgery, but I don't personally know anyone who has used him for the band. I'm finished w/ my 6 mos of "paperwork" for the insurance company and the next step is for me to make an appointment with the surgeon of my choice and start that process. I am trying to decide between him and Dr. Colquitt who is in Maryville. Any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated! :biggrin2:
