November Surgery Buddies!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am right there with ya. Slow loser I think so too 🥲 Last 4 weeks and I have lost only about 6 pounds. There was ofc 2 or 3 weeks of stall but even now my scale isn't budging much. It can get very frustrating and disappointing when it's only the beginning of the 2nd month. Le sigh, hope by the end of the month I can at least lose 10 pounds in total for this month, otherwise it would be highly disappointing 😭😭😭 -
Chocolate cravings!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to PCOS_Mama94's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your "period" - 🥳🥳 Only those with PCOS may realize how celebratory it is to have periods naturally. I am still waiting on that day. 😭 I am hoping soon it happens, otherwise may need to go back to the hormonal pills 😭😭 -
I am Indian, so I make "Palak Paneer" out of my cottage cheese. You can look up any recipe online. Use less oil (I use 1 tsp of coconut oil and usually have about 5 servings from it), don't add any heavy cream or anything - "Garlic, ginger, onions, tomatoes, spinach puree, salt, pepper and other spices as you desire and cottage cheese". It'll be viola. I am 1 month post-Op and this savory style of cottage consumption is awesome. Plus 1 serving is loaded with protein. I never tried it during my full fluid/puree phase. But I am sure you can puree it and consume it as a form of soup.

So I'll soon be moving to soft/regular diet phase and I was wondering how did your average calories look like 1 month, 2 months, 3 months etc post-Op? I believe Sleeve vs Bypass folks may have different # of average calories given the different anatomy. I do have a dietician's appt next week so just wanted to get some numbers. Wanna be prepared with any concerns or questions I have may.

How did you figure out if you had dumping syndrome?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeh, I have been aware of 30% number thanks to this forum. So may be I fall in the other 70%. At least for now lol. And my program does want us to include grains to get some of the nutrients naturally. They do include breads, crackers, rice, pasta, quinoa etc etc. I have only tried breads and crackers for now. Others not yet. Though I did try semolina and I can eat that fine. But like you said, when I ate the bread (1/8th of the bread), thin crackers (1 cracker) or even 2 small bites of pizza, they just seem heavy and loaded. Plus I don't really crave then per se. So I'll keep them at bay for now till few months down the road. I'll stick to making yummy vegetable curries, fruits and protein for now. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
New Year's day - About a month post-Op and I am at 192. So about 18 pounds down since the surgery. Ofc there was a stall of about 3 weeks. Hoping no more stalls. And even if there are, not too long of a stall 😔🙏 -
How did you figure out if you had dumping syndrome?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The tightness across the chest, I have got that 3x, and that's with breads/crackers. I tried little piece of pizza, same tightness and hurt. Happened with English muffin and even thin whole wheat crackers. Seems like any grainy carbs don't work for me. Either that or I am not taking enough time chewing the food. So I may just avoid those for now and may be try again 3 months post-op. Since there was New Year's get together, I tried a little piece of chocolate (lindor small stick, about 75 gram) while I was by myself in case I had to eat something at the gathering. And also was curious if I would dump, which I didn't actually. Though I ate the chocolate after having tofu. So not sure if that makes a difference. Either that or may be I don't specifically dump per se. Or may be with bigger quality I may. Who knows. I have also tried small pieces of fried snack, which haven't bothered me so far. Let's see how it goes. Ofc, I wouldn't wanna take advantage of my non-dumping status (if that's the case). Will be making sure not to indulge in heavy sugar except for rare exceptions. -
Average calories
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Now in the soft/regular diet phase, with protein intake around 65 to 70, I am bouncing around 800ish calories. I am still heistant eating more dense food high in cheese and stuff like *ricotta bake* - Am I being hesitant for no reason? And should just go ahead and add more fatty food, ofc heathy fats like peanut butter and cheese?! I do have about 20g of mozarella cheese in a day and may be 1 tbsp of peanut butter every other day. I can include more cheese in my breakfast with the eggs. But then I don't wanna overdo the cheese. Seeing fat in my daily calorie intake still petrifries me. 🥲 -
Drinking water gets tiring! 😪
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeh I use artificial sweeteners like crystal light and two other brands which are similar to crystal light. Zero calories type. But flavored water also gets boring after a while eap8 cuz you don't end up liking all the flavors. I also always fill stuffed cuz of continuous drinking which makes it even more tiring at times 😪 -
Drinking water gets tiring! 😪
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeh I am able to do two good swallows too, good amount. But I still have to continuously drink otherwise I don't get enough fluids in. I can't do room temperature water, has to be chilled. So I always carry a bottle around with ice. We are also to have 0.5 cup of milk daily so that goes towards fluid. And I also do buttermilk made from high protein ice landic yogurt. So I do make my fluid requirement but it still gets tiring to continuously drinking. Hopefully with time it gets better. -
Time between each bite 1 month post-Op?
DaisyAndSunshine posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am almost at my phase 3 (starts Dec 28th) that includes eating soft to regular food. I tried a soft food meal today, just a trial lol. Anyhow, question is how long do you wait between each bite? I went back to my instructions that mentions chewing 25 yikes before swallowing but doesn't mention the wait on between except that put your utensils down while chewing. So how long should I wait between each bite? -
So I am a huge fan of spicy food given my Indian origin. Ofc, I don't eat way too spicy but a decent amount of spice is definitely a must. Hence I was wondering were you ever asked to restrict your spice post-Op? Or we can carry on eating spice level as we did pre-Op?
-
It's so weird how different programs work. In mine, after a month which is phase 3 for me, they have provided the list of all kinds of food including bread, pasta, rice and that too white rice. We can eat all kinds of grains as long as we can tolerate. It kinda petrifies me since we are always told to stay away from carbs during weight loss. Of course we are asked to eat Protein first then vegetables, fruits and carbs come last. I'll try to include little at a time and try not to have too many carbs in my mela especially since my protein comes from heavy carb laden whole foods (vegetarian and all, and no protein powder on my program).

Bariatric multivitamin for Canada?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Yeh Jamieson is easily available here. But I was looking to get 1 pill a day kinda routine. But most of them are available in the US that costs shipping as much as the price of the meds. But I finally found a bariatric brand available on iHerb Canada and decent pricing with free shipping. It's called "Naturelo Bariatric multivitamin". It has all the requirements and my dietician is happy with it. So I'll be taking that for now until I get my blood work done. No other extra supplements needed. Even Calcium I get it from dairy consumption, so dietician will wait till the blood work to see if I need anything more. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I guess I am still on the 3 week stall that everyone talks about lol I haven't lost much on my full fluid phase and I have 5 more days on it. Have lost about 2 pounds only last 16 days. -
Sorry for multiple topics last couple of days 😂 Just trying to get hang of this new lifestyle, so thank you for answering my questions and concerns. This time around it's about fats and carbs. So my dietician didn't mention anything on calories, fats or even carbs. Calories understandable since it seems positive not to focus too much on it. But there aren't any instructions on carbs or fats. Do you guys have similar guidelines? Or does your program have a cap on net carbs and fats one is allowed in a day?
-
I have similar kinda profile though low calories for now because of the full fluid phase. I just spoke to my dietician today and I think she's okay with my Carbs and fats profile. On our program, we have to get all our proteins from whole foods and since I am vegetarian, most of it comes from dairy products like milk, yogurt and cottage cheese. And dairy products come with good amount of carbs. Hence my carbs and protein profile looks more or less similar. Because no protein powder, I think my carbs won't be as low as other programs. So hopefully it works for me as I continue with similar trend.

Average calories
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
That's the scary part, isn't it. And I am sure it's the case for everyone here. All of us have dieted for years or even decades and have ultimately ruined our metabolism. I am sure many have experienced how they can survive on low calories and after having metabolism affected, high calories become a living nightmare. I personally have experienced the same. And it isn't surprising to see such results in the study. And I do agree low calories do affect your body in a very complex fashion. I had done Dr. Bernstein's diet. And that diet (around 500 calories a day) had wrecked my body for over a decade. It's only now I have up and decided surgery it is for me. Anyhow, for me personally, I am petrified of going beyond 1200 calories cuz of my past experiences. I don't even know how I can lose weight if I go over 1200. So yeh, this calories fear will always be there. And not sure how it'll work for me in future. Let's see what calorie count I hit at in my 1st month of soft/regular diet phase. -
Average calories
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Sorry what did you mean by that? As in body can sustain on 700 cals/day efficiently? And thanks for the advice, I'll definitely go based on how my body reacts. I am not planning to cut down on any specific food group as long as I can tolerate it. Though I also want to make sure I don't overshoot the calories intake. Let's see, may be I'll have a better idea once I am in my phase 3, which is in about 6 days. Full fluid phase - 2 weeks over and only lost about 3 pounds on it lol. 12 pounds came off from the clear liquid phase. So it's all weird how body reacts to different phases. One more weeks of full fluids and almost 1 month post-Op. -
Average calories
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Thanks everyone for the feedback. After my dietician's appt today and discussion on phase 3, seems like they aren't very calories centric and want us to focus on getting the needed proteins and sticking to the recommended serving size for various food items. It's all listed out for us. So, focus will be on getting protein first and fluids and then the rest. Hope, things roll well on the provided recommendations. -
How spicy do you eat?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I have had my dietician's appt today and she's comfortable with me having spicy food as long asy stomach can handle it. I'll be using all the Indians spices that we use on dialy basis barring I'll still go easy on the spice and gradually increase it. Don't want to throw my stomach off the hill 🤣 Other than that, all looks good so far. -
Average calories
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My bariatric program also doesn't mention any numbers for calories. Numbers for for fluids and protein. So I am guessing they aren't too concerned about calories either. But I'll definitely bring it up during my dietician's appointment so I know what I'll be dealing with. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So my scale seems to be finally moving after almost 10 days of stall post the clear fluid phase. Let's see how it does by the end of this month. I try to stay away from the scale but I keep getting drawn to it every morning 😂 I don't get too bogged down with stalls after having heard of them here for months now. So I don't mind weighing myself daily. I'll be happy as long as scale moves after a certain point and I hit appropriate goal every month. Hope everyone is doing well with their diets. I still have 11 more days of full fluid diet phase. -
I am Indian so I keep craving for something spicy and crunchy. Anything on that front? I keep adding Indian taste to my food so I am sure down the road I'll have my share of recipes too.
-
So as expected I lost about 12 pounds in my clear liquid phase which was for a week post-Op. But ever since I started full liquids (Day 6 of full liquids), I haven't lost anything instead put on a pound 😂 So question is how long do these stalls last? Is it different for different folks? Or there's an average most expect to move beyond the stalls? How long did you stall for?
