Another Tummy Tuck Experience
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Toesinthewater's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Congrats on TT and your recovery. And thanks for sharing your journey. Would love to see some before and after pics may be months down the road. Good luck for rest of your procedures. How much did it all cost you? Anything covered by the insurance? -
So, I have been having some sugar free chocolates (about 35 calories, 5 carbs and 2 fat) or sugar free chocolate ice cream (about 1 tbsp and similar macros) may be few times a week. Would it be too much to do either sugar free chocolate OR 1tbsp of ice cream once a day everyday? I think somewhere they help getting away from same old food schedule. Ofc I also make sure not to go beyond those limits.

Having sugar free chocolate daily?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Ahhh you're almost at the end of your journey while I still have a long way to go 😂 But I understand what you're saying, it's just the little voice in the head that makes you feel guilty at times 😂 Though I mostly don't slip easily where I go beyond the limit but I also don't like completely restricting myself from treating myself once a day. -
Having sugar free chocolate daily?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
It's hard to tell with the weight loss if they directly contribute to it. There are days when I don't lose much while having them and days I still lose while having them. Weight loss for me as others out here is a cycle of plateau and then lose and so on and so forth. -
After surgery am I doomed to a life of throwing up???
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Jersey Girl in Tampa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wow. That’s quite a feat 👏🏻 and I am guessing you have kept the weight off? How long did it take for you to lose 200+? -
I am 2 months post-Op and we are allowed 2 cups max of caffeine intake. So it isn't completely off the table, though I don't bother much with coffee unless I really need it on one of those days.

Bypass Patients, Can you share your food reactions?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Mona Ometuruwa's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am 2 months out and I have tolerated everything so far. Couple of fries, piece of cake, half cup iced cappuccino, chocolate, restaurant style paneer tikka, little bit of naan (bread), piece of pizza etc etc. I haven't had any issue except with pizza, it kinda felt stuck and gave me a little chest discomfort. But then again, I am only 2 months out. Plus all the foods I have tried have been in small quantities just once. Never tried to go beyond a few bites. So for now on those quantities I haven't had any dumping. While on the program now, only things I have on certain days are *sugar free lactose free ice cream - About 1 or 2 tbsp* only and *sugar free chocolates - just 1 piece*. That's my treat at times when I am craving for some chocolate or sweet. I have already tried couple of things I wanted to but now I don't consume or bother with them since I know I tolerate pretty much majority of food items. So stick to the program only. -
After surgery am I doomed to a life of throwing up???
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Jersey Girl in Tampa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I totally get that. It's a major surgery and you're bound to be scared. I was most scared of dying on the table and I had mentioned this out here how I had even written post dated emails to my very close friends and family. Rest I didn't even think about much. I just went in with the mindset no side effects would be as bad as my pre-Op condition (debilitating depression that took away years of my life). Hence nothing else seemed as scary and just thought to deal with whatever was written in my post-Op journey. My suggestion would be to imagine how life would be post-Op than your current one. Is it worth the risk. Are you satisfied and happy with your life now? If no, then take the chance. Side effects can happen to anyone but go with a positive mindset and you just may have a similar graph as a lot of us out here. 🤗 -
After surgery am I doomed to a life of throwing up???
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Jersey Girl in Tampa's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
2 months post-Op and except for the day of the surgery, I haven't thrown up even once. Fortunately for me, it hasn't been a turbulent recovery, can't same it's same for all. But personally speaking, I haven't thrown up and have tolerated most of the food group. I don't do grains as much since they feel heavy. Only once when I had tried a small size of pizza, I have had some discomfort in my chest. That's about it. So for the time being I don't do much grains. I'll incorporate them beyond month 3. Good luck with your journey 😊 -
Periods (women only please)
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Ngotsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL at *women only please* 😂😂 I think it's fine for guys to learn a thing or two about periods too 😂 -
I think you may be in the intial period of the surgery and it takes time to get adjusted to a new lifestyle. Yes you won't be able to binge or have big portion of food like you used to but post-Op your portion sizes do increase. I also have PCOS and have dealt with and even now dealing with it's horrendous side effects. Hirutism, acne, no periods, weight gain, dark patches, skin tags, metabolic syndrome, high BP and HR (but never took meds for it) anxiety, depression you name it and I have/had it. I'll anyday take this surgery over having to deal with plethora of PCOS related symptoms. My acne has gotten better, blood pressure and HR have normalized so far. No periods still. But I am sure as I continue to lose, some of these side effects will minimize. There's no guarantee, but I am sure I am on a better boat post-Op. My cravings and binge eating have also gotten better, which was never the case post tons of diet plans. This surgery is definitely a boon for many. But it takes time, patience, work and sacrificing of certain elements. Like many suggested, try therapist and see that may help or give it couple of months of adjustment. Good luck.

ESG @ Mexico Bariatric Center
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Liline40's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I am not sure how much weight you're planning to lose but with ESG weightloss is slower and not as much, about 15 to 20%, which isn't a lot especially for majority of us who fall under Obese category. So depends on your BMI and the goal you have in mind. As for scars, laproscopic scarring is minimal and after a year or so, you won't even notice (I am sure many veterans here can vouch for it). Regardless of what you choose, good luck with your journey. -
Awwww, so sorry to hear about the strokes. That's quite unfortunate an effect and totally get your concerns then. But do you mind clarifying how can anemia cause strokes? Quite baffling to hear that.
-
May be bake for your family with sugar wgile have a small portion for yourself baked with artificial/natural sweetners.
-
I agree that anemia may be a consequence of the malabsorption but it's also true surgerical techniques have changed over years and it isn't the same as that of 25 yrs ago. The amount that gets bypassed, cause for malabsorption, has also changed. So it depends really on various factors why one may have issues down the road.

I have PCOS and slow metabolism but I wanted something that had better stats in the long run and RYN has that. Not to say sleeve doesn't since many have been successful on it as well. But personally given my medical history and plethora of PCOS related side effects, I opted for bypass. Plus chances of revision is also high with sleeve because of reflux issue. And I didn't want take the route of having to have a second surgery if revision was needed. "ONE surgery and that should be the end of it" was my thought process. Hence even after being confused, I finally opted for bypass. I know many prefer sleeve because of less chances of dumping and malnutrition, so it depends if those look tempting for you. Though there are 70% of by-passers who also don't dump, myself including. I always wanted a weight loss route that didn't restrict my diet (reason why I hated Keto and other carbs restrictive diets, my binge eating always worsened with them). Even then I took my chance with bypass thinking I shall see when I cross the bridge. And fortunately, I don't dump (at least with some of the sugary and fatty foods I have tried till now). So give consideration to your medical history, your metabolism, stats and pros and cons of each and go with your gut feeling. That's what I did and so far I haven't regretted it *fingers crossed*

November Surgery Buddies!!!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So 2 months since the surgery and 9 weeks and in total have lost about 28 pounds. Last month was slow, about 10 pounds. Seems like weight will take its sweet time coming off. Slow loser here from what I can see. Though as long as it continues coming off and I can reach the goal, all well. Hoping everyone else is doing well on their ends given we are in Feb now. -
When did you start eating fruits? (Carbs content)
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yeh I personally can't do Keto even if I try 😂 I talked about it above. I had tried Keto in the past and it makes me miserable having to limit carbs. Keto expects you to restrict even good carbs like fruits and complex grains, which isn't sustainable in a long run. Not to mention heavy load of fat content in the diet, which truly freaks me out even when I did Keto. Hence here I am with the surgery since weight loss journey has to be sustainable otherwise the cycle of yo yo dieting continues. I feel Keto can be good for the weight loss but not sure if it's sustainable for a lifelong commitment. Plus Keto is usually combined with intermittent fasting, which again isn't sustainable. -
When did you start eating fruits? (Carbs content)
DaisyAndSunshine posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So, my program has me on fruits and veggies and even grain if one can tolerate right from month 2. I don't do much grain (may be once a week) since I don't like eating it much. Though based on our outlined eating schedule, we should take 3 to 4 servings of fruits (depending how we tolerate ofc). I don't have any issue with tolerating any ofthe fruits (I don't dump). But ofc if I do that my carbs shoot quite high especially cuz I am vegetarian and I get my protein mostly from dairy (yogurt, milk, cottage cheese and other cheese), which again has significant carbs. My average net carbs are between 60 to 70 grams. Anyhow, so I was wondering how did y'all carry your carbs during the weight loss phase? And when did you introduce fruits and veggies in your diet? -

Currently at my stage, I use refried bean for a taco bowl of a type - Refried beans with some taco spice, cheese, salsa and skyr yogurt (which replaces sour cream and is high in protein). My favorite meal of the day 😂 -

Ahhh Pita and rice may work up the calories. I have been avoiding grains cuz they seem too heavy. But now that I am almost done with month 2, I may give it a shot. BTW, brown rice or white rice? Can't do chicken and all cuz vegetarian but would love a falafel in a pita (ofc bariatric version of falafel) 😂 Your carb content isn't almost double your protein. So seems like I shouldn't be worried getting more carbs in. With beans and lentils, carbs do overshoot, but without them there won't be much variation in my diet. My fats are around similar number, usually less than 30gram. -
One Year With Mini Gastric Bypass: My Journey, Thoughts, and Tips!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Well it is slow and steady, so hanging there 😂 Almost end of month 2 and I think I'll end up losing about 10 to 11 pounds this month. It's slow compared to others but I think it's fine. It could be because I had lost almost 25 pounds before surgery. Post surgery it'll be another 28 to 29ish. So I think I am getting there. Only 1 major stall for about 2 to 3 weeks and it's going down little by little, so I think it's nice 😂 Have a follow up appt on Feb 1st, so will figure out if any dietary changes are needed. That makes sense. I think RYN it's lesser than that. Though I completely forgot to ask my surgeon how much was mine. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ LMFAO 🤣🤣 Weird, bizarre and all sorts of crazy. Well then, may be it's time you ought to say "Hi" to them 🤣 -

One Year With Mini Gastric Bypass: My Journey, Thoughts, and Tips!
DaisyAndSunshine replied to a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
The best feeling ever eh after struggling with weight almost all our lives and the same daunting feeling of being watched. Seriously you look great, feel great. What else is there to it. Congrats on your journey. It's funny how this section is right in the corner. 🤦🏻♀️ Didn't know this info. It sounds weird considering both RYN and miniRYN have similar routing of the digestive track. 🤷🏻♀️ But from some of reviews out here, it does seem like mini has been doing great work. In Canada, surgeries are covered under our medical insurance, but we only have an option of Sleeve or RYN. Not sure why this isn't on the table yet when RYN is. Regardless, I was kinda confused with sleeve vs RNY. But given my PCOS history and ofc GERD associated revision, I ended up choosing RYN. And I think I am glad I did that cuz having gone through post-Op, I don't think I ever want to go back to an OR unless for extrutiating circumstances. Again, well done with your journey 👍🏼 Your advises and posts have been very helpful out here. 🤩
