    Artificial Sweeteners?

So I was watching these videos by one of the WLS Surgeons and he isn't pro-sweeterners! He thinks it can also spike Insulin by your body responding to the sweet taste in the mouth. And can also cause weight gain! I do have medical knowledge and Insulin is only secreted in response to Glucose molecules attaching to the receptors in your Pancreas, so him extrapolating Insulin release to the taste itself kinda doesn't make sense to me! May be Slpenda, aspartame etc may not be the best alternatives but natural sweeteners seem safe so far especially how Keto diet is revolves a lot around such natural sweeteners! Thoughts? Are you a fan? Whether or not sweeteners are safe to be used in your weight loss journey esp cause many of us may not tolerate sugar well for life! https://youtu.be/DTIK8n0WTBU

    May Surgery?!

I am scheduled for May the 3rd! With the current lockdown in TO, not sure if Surgery will be postponed or stay put! Hope all goes well. Kinda excited for the new journey and kinda nervous too! Anyone else ON for May?
  3. Anyone else in the same boat from Ontario? Initially I was scheduled for May 3rd, then June 1st and today got a call that June 1st is cancelled also! 😭 It's dreading to mentally keep prepping for it for it to get postponed yet again. Siggghhh. Plan is to continue on the same healthy habits now that I am over food funerals 😂 So hope I can keep on losing some weight before I get yet another surgery date!

Lying about not getting surgery is awful

Firstly like many mentioned - Everyone is entitled to privacy when it comes to their medical care and procedures! Secondly, most of us have gone through the stigma being overweight and obese half or even more than that of our lives. Adding the stigma of WLS IMHO isn't a needed baggage for the remaining life. Because those haven't gone through this route and those who have never been overweight will never understand our hardship or struggles or the decision of choosing a drastic procedure like WLS! Plus, I don't expect to know how others lead their lives, so I expect the same treatment when it comes to mine! If by chance I hit it off with someone struggling similarly as me, and if we end up connecting, I may share my details to help out that person in need. Otherwise I am content with only my family knowing what's going on!

    Artificial Sweeteners?

I don't know why I used candidate 😂😂 Should have used Bypass sucess! 😂 Gotcha - I guess I would just have to play around with various Sweeteners post surgery to figure out which work the best for me. I do know Crystal Light is alright to use, which has sucrolose as the sweetner. Xylitol doesn't work with me now, so I am sure it won't after the surgery either.

    Artificial Sweeteners?

Okay you're a Bypass candidate - Can you tell me which artificial sweeteners work for you without causing any bloating or other side effects?

What's the deal with "Straws vs No Straws"

So from most responses here straws seem safe to be used except some like to avoid it for the safe of following the program @nd their Surgeon's advise! I think as long as I can tolerate straw, I'll use it. I feel straws are more safer in sipping than risking a huge gulp of water drinking straight up from my water mug!

    June Surgeries

I am scheduled for June 1st 🎉🎉 (As long as there isn't yet another delay ala Covid)!
  10. Vitamin C definitely?! It can cause scurvy that can lead to loss of teeth!

    Running out of steam

Why already at the gym?! I have read and told Gyms and heavy duty work out should be kept 6 months post op! My program mostly has me on walking for 6 months more or less - Gradually increasing the time and intensity in those months, but nothing more than that! I mean you're running on limited calories and for weights and heavy work out your body needs stamina/extra calories which your body can't get in the first few months of the surgery! At least that's the logic I'll be going with - And incorporating gyms and weights 6 months post-op!

    The Sleeve vs Bypass?

I have PCOS and few weeks back I was in the same dilemma to choose Sleeve over Bypass after reading some of the sleevers here having lost the same weight to reach their normal BMI. But then some more research showed how Bypass patients in the long run have it little more easy to maintain the weight than sleevers. With PCOS I wanted 1 surgery to give me the maximum benefit, don't want to return back to the OR either! Ofc there's no guarantee what may happen in future and how many surgeries one may need. Plus many Bypass patients have also struggled with weight gain while many sleevers have kept it off. In the end this surgery is a tool and we definitely will have to work hard at it. But I feel more comforting with the Bypass decision than have a *what if* moment in future. Plus the risk of hernia and GERD is more with sleeve than Bypass. So I am in a happy place with the decision by mine to go with Bypass!

    The Sleeve vs Bypass?

If you don't mind sharing, what was that contraindication for Bypass?! 🤔
  14. Wow that's a long time. Is it the case cuz it's a revision surgery?! Cuz usually it's about 9 to 12 months wait for first time WLS!
  15. Hey, WLS is covered by Canadian health care. Any reason why you're getting it done in Mexico?!

    Any Vegetarians here?!

Hey Thank you for the link! I just checked it out. And yes it very active but good enough material to help me guide through!

    Any Vegetarians here?!

I am getting my Surgery soon in May if everything goes as planned! In the mean time I was wondering if there are other Vegetarian WLS members who can guide me through or make suggestions for Post Op Diet especially in terms of protein and how they ate daily in the intial phase of their weight loss!

    May Surgery?!

Also any suggestions for Multivitamins for Canada?! Bariatric Pal and Opurity seemed like good choices from theor labels. Has almost all of that is needed except both of them charge shipping for Canada! Any free shipping types for Canada which are just as good!

    Upcoming Surgery in May!

Hi there, After having followed the site for some time, I am posting here for the first time to get some advise! Height - 4'11 HW - 222 Current Weight - 215 My surgeon has given me both options - Sleeve OR Bypass! I don't have any GERD issue or anything that may tilt the balance on one or the other. So can I please get some advise so I can make up my mind on what to choose?! I have PCOS and I want to lose about 100 pounds for my PCOS related side effects to come to a good halt. So maximum weight loss or as much as I can is definitely a key for me. Hence I was thinking *Bypass*, but then I have also followed some posters here and they have lost the same amount with Sleeve too! I would preferred Sleeve too because of little less side effects in future. But then I also don't want to get Sleeved and then not lose the desired weight, having to regret the decision not to have picked Bypass. I have also read how average weight loss is more or less similar to both in the 5 yr study, so why do some pick *Bypass* over *Sleeve*?! Any advise would be great so I don't pendulum on the options and pick one of the two!

    Upcoming Surgery in May!

Nice and Good Luck! 🤗 We are almost close - Mine is scheduled for May the 3rd! And yes I wish it was sooner too and I wish I was more proactive. Right now we are under lockdown again for a month thanks to the third wave - So hoping nothing gets postponed and surgery goes successfully without anymore delays! Stay in touch - Hope we can come out of this vicious PCOS circle and no more or at least very limited horrendous side effects!

    Upcoming Surgery in May!

Hey thanks for the feedback! I don't have any issue with malabsorption or GERD which may get me to choose one over the other automatically. Hence the confusion! But I think I have come to terms yesterday after having done some more research - This is what I posted on the Bypass forum under the same topic - Hope things work out in my favor! 😄 Yeh I have been reading into stories of many PCOSers and about Bypass vs Sleeve. I think data also shows long term success with Bypass is better with Sleeves esp if you have some hormonal setback. So I think I'll stick to Bypass for now! It gives me more of the positive vibe and lack of regret which I may have with Sleeve if things don't go as planned! At least with Bypass I won't have that regret of "I could have chosen Bypass"! Ofc Bypass comes with its own setback and side effects, but I think I am comfortable taking the chance!
