    Over 60??

I started my sleeve journey on 11/06/19 at 65 . I’m now 66. My journey has slowed a bit at 4 mnths. , and am constantly looking at my daily diet and seeing what changes to make. I’m NOT an “ everything in moderation “ person. I try not to eat nothing processed or in a box ( although tuna fish is on my ok list) and try to buy organic when we can afford it. We are only 2 people so I can splurge a little on healthy foods. We try to eat as natural as possible. I work out as much as possible, usually spin, Zumba, combat, weights at least 4x a week. I made myself a commitment to this program and that meant changing my mental attitude towards food, leaving out all sugar, starches ( bread, rices, potatoes), sugar drinks, etc. I have no tolerance for the “everything in moderation” attitude, simply because I believe you’re kidding yourself with this attitude and setting yourself up for saying, “ it’s ok, I’ll just start anew tomorrow “. I make no apologies for my attitude and plan. If you want to argue another point of view, I will listen but you won’t change me. At 66, I’m doing what works for me and love my new lifestyle.

What is the name of the new forum?
  3. I too, was told by my Nut , to up my calories and carbs. Like you said, it feel counterintuitive. Slowly going to increase both combined with my working out and see if that helps. Tough to do with a 4 ounce limiting sleeve

    lean muscle mass building

That one is easy to research. It’s basic.

    lean muscle mass building

Just a reminder that muscle does not weigh more than fat. 1 lb of muscle = 1 lb of fat. Muscle I’d denser than fat .

Hi Kimberkiss. I too am 5’3. I weigh a bit more. I’m 3 months out from my surgery. Wow! You’re doing everything right. The only thing I can think of is to eat more. I’m thinking you’re not eating as much as your body needs. Perhaps adding A bit more carbs (90-100 grams) to your program, and thus that will add more calories for you. Of course, that would be carbs that are nutrient dense and low on the glycemic index. Try that for a few weeks. Keep me posted
  7. I totally agree with you on the different SDA of foods. But, eating such low calories is only for the pre-surgical diet and the first 8 weeks for me when my calories were upped significantly , with increased protein, carbs, and liquid intake. Now at 12 week, I have no diet restrictions, and slightly increase in calories, protein, carbs and liquids. So, that’s why my interest is in this area. Couple this with the thermogenesis from cardio and strength training.
  8. While that seems to make sense, it has been debunked that all calories are the same and burn the same. It has also been questionable about calories in, calories out, based on the fact that the way we burn the type of calories has been accepted. I do agree that 1500 calories = is 1500 calories, but since all calories have different nutritional make up and burn differently, how we burn the calories is more important
  9. Help me understand, when is walking too much a problem?
  10. Great post! Very encouraging and inspirational

    4.5 months post-op plateau/stall

Having a stall that long, It’s a tough thing on the ego. As many have said, at least for a full week, journal all your foods. Increase your calories to 900- carbs can go to 75-100 grams, and increase your Water to 80 oz or more. I know that may sound crazy, but it works
  12. Yes, November people rock! Thanks for your uplifting reply!

    Cheated and disgusted

As long as you keep saying “everyone cheats”, I will always quickly challenge you, as most of us don’t cheat.
  14. I totally agree with you. Thank you for pointing out some things, that I didn’t understand.

    Cheated and disgusted

Still saying “we all cheat”? Again, not everyone cheats! Stop giving yourself permission to cheat with that thinking! It gives people the wrong message.
  16. I’m very disappointed that you would use this “support thread” as you call it, a place for a political thrown down. Calling anyone a snowflake has absolutely no bearing to this thread rebuttal other than to show your political frustrations and as a so called negative put down to someone. I don’t care about your political views, I resent you using them to put someone down in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with politics,
  17. I’m sure that’s part of the case too, but I know I’m very restricted to fats (utilize my Nuts minimum) and not a keto diet. Perhaps, many of us don’t have enough fats in our program
  18. Unfortunately, having the runs for 2 weeks during pre op is not the norm for many of us. As mentioned previously, we are constipated. Please don’t tell others that this is normal.

    november sleeve

Sheila, Hi! I’m averaging 2 lbs a week, which to me, is phenomenal. Just started back at the gym yesterday. I realize I have to up my water. Im the type that doesn’t sweat externally, and didn’t pee at all. Haven’t been in 2 yrs. Starting at Silver Sneakers and it’s kicking my butt. Starting at an every other day regimen to heal my muscles, and hope to go to everyday. Final plan is to attend Zumba and other classes at my gym.
  20. Just would like to add that losing 10 lbs a month is not slowly losing. It’s perfect weight loss. Yes, most people may drop quickly in the beginning, but that is a fool’s gold in water weight. Gradually, you drop off to 2 lbs a week as you gradually add calories and carbs. For me, this happened at 8 weeks. I’m 10 weeks now.
