First of all, I hate the "fat" word. In my house "fat" is the "F" word. I can't stand it when they use the "F" word in children's movies. All of my life I have been overweight. After reading most of these posts I would like to comment that so many people believe that "fat" people are that way because they made themselves that way. Yes, I do understand that overweight ppl should make better food choices, but I believe that some ppl like myself were born with very slow metabolisms (as I was told by my Physician at a very young age) and no matter what you do (unless you make yourself a slave to a thousand calorie diet and exercise nearly every day of your life) you are going to be overweight, with the exception of course of surgery, if that works for you (for me it hasn't yet). But, back on subject, I agree that when I do feel, like, disgusted looking at other overweight ppl it's usually because of the way they carry themselves. It's true what some ppl wrote on their posts that it's because I don't ever want to carry myself like that. (it's a reflection of what I don't want to be) I never would have thought that anyone else overweight would have felt the same way as me on this issue.---------->p.s. what year is this?? oh well, can't blame myself for trying.

Kind of Bummed...
heatherlynnTX replied to pandagirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
let me just say that i remember reading your hospital experience and i could not believe what happened. you have done so so goooooood girl dieting and losing without the band. i thought to myself, wow, i've lost before, but at this time in my life there is no way that i could do what this girl has done right now. so you should just lift your head up high and be proud of yourself. you have already gotten yourself so far and you will get to that 300lbs for surgery and when you do you will know that it didn't come easy and for that you should have such a sense of accomplishment. and don't forget it, because when you do loose ALLLLLL the weight, after the band, you can look back and when someone asks you how did you lose all that weight, you can say----well, i did it on my own and then got the lap band to help me finish the job. stay determined---you are doing great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Getting banded on June 27 - are my expectations realistic?
heatherlynnTX replied to gigem's topic in The Guys’ Room
hey there, i was banded by dr. spivak 5-23-08 and well, as i'm sure you know, he's the best. but i will say this, this "no down time" is totally overestimated. i didn't leave the house for 3 days. be sure to have the pain meds & gasX ready before you get home. drink plenty of water and walk and you'll do fine, but unless you can wear loose clothes and bring a pillow, i would say--don't get your hopes up. it took me about a week till i started feeling up to myself. also you will be totally fine for the trip! you will still be on mushies and you won't be able to lift anything over 10 lbs (i think), but you will feel totally great by then. i have read one thing about flying for bandsters, that the band has a tightening sensation when you're in the air, but it goes away when you get back on the ground. i think it's in that manual you got at the seminar. interesting. now, as far as how much you lose in so much time--i do not know--everyone is different as far as that goes. i lost 10lbs the first week and dropping 2-3 lbs every 5 days or so, so far. who knows after the first fill and i am not being a stickler on fat free, sugar free. but i have been following everything else. hopefully this helps. hope everything goes great for ya!! i'm sure it will, keep us posted. -
wow, awesome robin, thank you for the advice. i'm so happy for you girl. that's great!

well i guess i was bad cause about day 5 those sterile strips were buggin me, i just got all ancy about getting those itchy things off it was really late at night and they were already coming up on the sides so i took them off 3 of the incisions. i felt horrible about it and it felt like they needed more support or protection, so the next day i went to this medical supply place and got some more and put them back on and just went ahead and replaced the other ones. these are still on and i am really wanting to pull em off..... are yours peeling up on the sides?....let's see it's day 4 for you?.. maybe not. yeah, i thought that the "no down time" was a little far fetched. but some ppl can just get through things like nothing.

i would say within 1 week i was back to my perky self. i tried going back to work within 4 days and worked for about 4 hrs and it really did me in. then the next day i got this TREMENDOUS headache and thought it was a sinus infection, went to family doc and she put me on augmentin, girl, i don't know if you've ever had that antibiotic, but whew------i thought it had something to do with the band, but i got sicker than a dog on that (nausea big time). the next day, still a HORRIBLE headache, so i called dr. spivak. he said maybe i should try a snack inbetween meals in case it was like from blood-sugar imbalance, but i knew it was worse than any headache i had from lack of food. then he said, just for this instance i could take some ibprofren since hydrocodone or reg tylenol wouldn't cut it. so, i did. i took that ibprofren and that headache was gone within 10 mins. so, really, if it wasn't for that headache i don't know if i would have been feeling up to my old self earlier than 1 week, but i was back to a full schedule at work by the next friday (1 week later) and boy did i have some catching up to do! every day there after has gotten better and better. hey, one question---i took the dressing off the day after surgery, but do you remember what they told you about these sterile strips on the incisions. are we supposed to just wait till they come off by themselves?

Question for ALL Bandsters.....
heatherlynnTX replied to fotogurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah, i was like that even before the band. some days i could eat like crazy before my cycle. some days not even eat hardly a thing. but with the band i've felt that too, sometimes i can eat just about 6-8 bites of mushies and be stuffed and full for hours, then the next day i can eat quite abit more and the fullness gone shortly there after. i think it depends on your activity level, the texture/density of what you are eating/drinking and who knows it could even have something to do with the barometric pressure----you just never know when it has to do with the human body and a man-made object. i'm just glad that now i can't go off and eat the whole darn kitchen when i'm on a hungry jag. lol -
thanks for the update. wow, you are only 1 week from my banding. well, i don't know if you read on here much, but girl we have got it easy compared to some of these other ppl who go to different doctors. not saying that it's easy what we have to go thru by any means. so when you say you are having a hard time getting your liquids and proteins in, are you saying holding them down, or getting enough like grams of protein and ounces of water?

Waiting to drink before or after meal....
heatherlynnTX commented on heatherlynnTX's blog entry in Blog 39794
p.s. my doctor used to do 30 mins before/ 30 after, but he changed it to 15 mins over the years. -
okay, my doc said to only drink 15 mins before a meal or 15 mins after. that can be a little hard when we go out for dinner. i'm wondering the significance of 15 mins so that i can get a better understanding as to why i am waiting. i've heard it has something to do with food absorbtion. i know it has a little to do with needing to fill pouch w/ protein and too much liquid maybe fills pouch to where you are too full to get in the protein you need. one thing i don't understand is why wait 15 after because doesn't it take longer than 15 mins for your food to digest? anyone?:crying:

yeah, that makes sense.........okay, i appreciate the replies. very informative. it's good to know because i am totally used to drinking at least 2 glasses of water with my meal. thirsty, thirsty when i eat, but it's all good. like i said before, you have to learn how to eat again--and same thing with the drinking. thanks again -
just wondering how everything has gone and if you had your surgery. i was banded by dr. spivak on 5-23-08. he's great and it's been going good so far. keep us posted if you can.....

I want some REAL food!?!?!?!?!
heatherlynnTX replied to txjanaa1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hey there, i just thought i would tell you guys that my doctors instructions are 24-48 hrs liquid and 4 wks mushies and then solids after that. this doctor is #1 in Texas and knows what he is doing. he trains other doctors. so to me it's safe to say that his "diet" plans for the healing process are suitable for anyone who has had the lapband. .... this is for the ppl who are worried that eating mushies too soon is going to be really bad for them. .......hopefully this will help ease your mind a little. i was banded 5-23-08----------- -
same question..... i'm curious too. i've never heard that.:confused2:
